About This Game

Hope's Peak Academy is home to Japan's best and brightest high school students—the beacons of hope for the future. But that hope suddenly dies when Makoto Naegi and his classmates find themselves imprisoned in the school, cut off from the outside world and subject to the whims of a strange, murderous little bear named Monokuma. He pits the students against each other, promising freedom to anyone who can murder a fellow classmate and get away with it.
It's up to you to find out who Monokuma really is, and why you've been taken from the world you once knew. But be careful what you wish for—sometimes there’s nothing more deadly than the truth...

Key Features
 • Daily Life, Deadly Life: Trapped in a school-turned-prison, students are murdering each other one by one. You’ll have to investigate each incident, search for clues, and talk to your classmates to try and get to the bottom of each brutal case!

 • Mock Trial: The nefarious Monokuma serves as judge, jury, and executioner as you engage in deadly wordplay, going back and forth with suspects, dissecting their statements and firing their words back at them to expose their lies!

 • Popularity Contest: Sway classmates to your side in each investigation, squeezing information from them to figure out who did it. And when you do, turn up the heat in a variety of timing and reflex-based game systems to uncover the truth and save your skin!

 • Steam Features: Supports Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud and Steam Trading Cards.

This game was written by a group of crack addicted, mentally ill Japanese fanfic authors and that is NOT a bad thing.

It's one of the best experience in detective / visual novel games. The story is intriguing and plots are often unexpected. Characters are very well written. I can remember every character and the strength and weakness after the first run.

Game mechanism overall is fine, although I don't like the real time combat part. The real time combat tutorial is not very clear as well, took me a few tries to figure out what is required.

The side game school mode is a bit difficult at the start but getting easier and easier later as the stats can be inherited. All characters need to be pleased for all achievements. Minimum 4 runs are required here, so it would take some time.

Achievements other than the school mode can mostly be completed in one run. If monocoins are not sufficient, farming chapter 1 trials on mean difficulty is recommended. This shall be done after completing the school mode endings as school mode will give quite a lot of coins every run.

By the way, if you want to see how 2D characters looks in a 3D world, this game will show you exactly that. And the blood in the game are pink. Other than these two, I can't think of anything that I can complain about the game.

The experience on steam deck is almost perfect. Sometimes when resume from sleeping, the game lost its sound. Will have to restart the game to resolve.

Overall it's very recommended for any player who loves a good story.

After seeing that crush execution thing a bunch on tiktok I decided to actually play this game because I wanted to know what it was about.

And it's actually really good, I love the 2D and 3D merge and from the 3 hours I've played so far it looks really fun!

Horribly cliche'd writing, awful characters, bad twists. 10/10 can't recommend it enough.
I'm so weak for pretty women committing crimes 𖹭𖹭𖹭𖹭
I played this several years too late lol, but it was an awesome experience. The writing is very entertaining, while the story is creative and manages to successfully balance out serious themes with silly content. I admittedly can't think of anything creative to write, but will say that I highly enjoyed this game and certainly understand the hype around it. The soundtrack and art are incredible too! Although the grindy achievements and some gameplay elements felt tedious to me at times, I'm left very satisfied overall!

A viral reel meme made me play this game and i had absolutely enjoyed it. The story, music and class trial mechanics are absolutely awesome even though it's been almost 16 years since it had been released.

Solid 9/10
(-1 point due to femboy and femboyGPT deaths =( )

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is an insanely addictive ride that hooked me way harder than I expected, and I can’t stop thinking about it.

English (Reddit-style positive review)
This game completely blindsided me in the best way possible. The mix of murder mystery, visual novel drama, and tense class trials creates a loop that’s almost impossible to put down once it clicks. Every chapter ends on such a wild note that you just keep telling yourself “one more trial” until suddenly it’s 3 AM and you’re emotionally destroyed in the best way.

The cast is the real star here. Every student feels unique, and the more time you spend with them, the harder each death hits and the more desperate you become to reach the truth. The way the story flips constantly between hope and despair is genuinely brilliant and keeps you guessing about everyone’s motives until the very end.

Gameplay-wise, the investigations are straightforward but satisfying, and the class trials are such a cool twist on the usual visual novel formula. Firing “truth bullets” at contradictions while the soundtrack goes absolutely crazy is way more hype than it has any right to be. The soundtrack, the pink “blood”, the over-the-top executions, all of it blends into a style that’s instantly recognizable and surprisingly memorable.

If you’re even remotely into mystery, anime, or story-driven games, this is one of those “just play it” titles. Go in as blind as possible, trust the process, and let the game drag you through its roller coaster of twists and emotional damage. Easily one of the most unforgettable experiences I’ve had in a visual novel, and it absolutely deserves its overwhelmingly positive reputation.

I don't remember the last time I was so intrigued and captivated by a VN, always curious about what will happen, the mystery and constant tension keeping me on my toes while a dark feeling lingers throughout the entire story. This is by no means a normal VN, it has more gameplay than many non-VN games, which was shocking to see. The detective gameplay, always asking yourself what is actually going on, the character development of some really well-done characters with amazing artwork, the really good dialogue, exploration, and the many other gameplay elements all together create one of the best experiences I've had in years.

This game made me discover three things about myself:

1. I have a concerningly high tolerance level for subpar boob jokes

2. I can enjoy a story with its plot points strung together by ******* fruit strings if the plot points themselves are really good

3. I'm apparently into femboys . . . . .

♥♥♥♥.
