ARTIFICIAL intelligence will transform Scotland’s economy more profoundly than any technology in living memory.

If we do not act, AI will deepen inequality, undermine job security and concentrate wealth in the hands of a few global firms.

Scotland prides itself on fairness. But fairness requires preparation. It requires acknowledging that automation will decouple economic value from human labour – and that our current tax and welfare systems are not designed for this reality.

An AI dividend offers a way forward: a levy on the economic output of automated systems, ensuring that the benefits of AI are shared across society rather than captured by a small elite. This is not radical – it is responsible. Scotland must lead, not follow.
