Look son, it is time for us to have the talk.
Some of you have a fucking abysmal understanding of fetishes and kinks and what those words even just fucking mean and are shitting up threads because of it. You are a big boy now and it's time to change this.
What is a fetish and what is a kink?
In the most clinical of terms to start with. A fetish is something outside of culturally accepted things that causes arousal. A kink is something that is not a normal sexual act but can still be considered normal. For example feet are a fetish, no one would ever say that feet are a sexual organ or a commonly agreed upon sexy body part. However something like facesitting would be considered a kink, everyone already agrees that asses and wide hips are a sign of femininity but wanting to shove your face in there isn't exactly a regular sex act. It's not something that would cause you to be socially ostracized if it was found out, but it's something that might cause a shock to the person you do it to if not discussed beforehand.
The problem with this definition is that all fetishes are kinks. If a kink is something other than things on the level of incredibly plain missionary type sex then sucking toes is also outside of that despite being a fetish. To put it in kf terms, a kink is a brown person, something unusual and if you mentioned it in the bedroom you'd get a strange look, a fetish is an indian, something that no one would ever want to do unless they were the same as the person proposing it, a smaller more niche part of a large topic.
Where the boundary is is both hard to really define and entirely pointless. Is having anal sex with a woman a fetish or a kink? I would say that it's certainly not a normal sex act so is definitely a kink, whether it is abnormal enough to be a fetish is something only you can decide on. In general the words fetish/kink get used in a different context online, specifically in circles of people that enjoy them. The more colloquial definition of a kink is something that you like and a fetish is something you need. Now to instantly backtrack on what I just said.
Technically all fetishes are paraphilias. However the word is colloquially used to mean a specific type of fetish that is either dangerous or illegal. The most obvious example is paedophilia. Sometimes these harmful/illegal acts will be called paraphilic disorders to distance them from the less abnormal. The main ones that would be discussed on this site are paedophilia, zoophilia/zoosadism, rape (biastophilia) and voyeurism. This post is not about discussing these. This post is about regular legal fetishes.
The more normal kinks and fetishes.
Feet - You're on kiwifarms, say hello to Null. Foot fetishes are the most common type of fetish. The easiest way to describe it is by showing you an image of gross hairy feet, you'd say they were unattractive right? If something like that can be unattractive then the opposite therefore is more attractive, the existence of 'ugly' feet implies the existence of 'pretty' feet. Take that to a slightly higher level and you have a foot fetish. This is the basis of most types of partialism, a fetish based on a specific bodypart. Hair, hand and armpit fetishism are other common types of partialism. You almost certainly have a partialism fetish, you just do not know it is classed as such. Do you remember media and fashion in the 2000s? Remember how everyone was wearing crop tops and how Britney Spears getting a belly button piercing was the headline for gossip magazines for months? That's a result of belly/bellybutton partialism (Alvinolagnia/Alvinophilia). There chances of someone having at least a mild partialism fetish is almost 100%. The only difference between you, a 'normal' person, and a foot fetishist is that you like the curves of a waist instead of a foot, you want to play with boobs instead of toes, all four of those are types of partialism. Obviously some partialisms are more socially acceptable but that is heavily dependent on culture. One prominent example is ankles, certain cultures said women should not show any leg skin, that lead to people fetishing the small peeks of ankle skin that did show through. Another one is the Japanese fetish for necks, most hair and clothing leaves the neck completely covered, as a result wearing certain clothing and having your hair in a way that leaves the nape of your neck exposed is seen as erotic.
Latex - Latex is another one of the most common fetishes. The easiest way to explain it is that it highlights and accentuates the body. By covering everything it accentuates what is left, mostly the curves and figure of the body. If that person was to then unzip or leave a certain area uncovered it will naturally draw your focus to that area. The shine also helps, similar to how 'normal' porn will oil both of the people up to create a shiny skin, latex is just naturally more reflective than skin. One material fetish that you have probably seen in certain threads here about strange images found online is satin fetishism. Clothing - A clothing fetish is yet another fetish that you will almost certainly have without realising. Have you ever seen someone in lingerie and thought they looked erotic? That's a clothing fetish. Lingerie stores are clothing fetish stores. It is something outside of regular heterosexual sex that causes arousal. If the presence of lingerie makes it more erotic then that is because of a fetish. It is simply just a normal fetish to have. You think lingerie makes a someone more erotic, I think them being barefoot has the same effect, the only difference is the type of fetish. Looking it up and apparently 60% of the population have a clothing fetish, I would honestly be willing to bet it is more and the rest of the people don't consider it a fetish because they have never thought about it before. Other than lingerie/underwear common examples are uniforms. Essentially anything you would find in a store like Anne Summers. A maid outfit, a playboy bunny, police uniform, school uniform, things like that. Things like tight jeans, swimsuits/bikinis and dresses are all subjects of clothing fetishes. Even wet tshirts are a type of clothing fetish. There is obviously a large cross over with the previously mentioned material fetishes, though they are distinctly different even if the item being fetishised is the same. A material fetish is based in the material it is made of, how that feels to touch or wear. A clothing fetish is more focused on how the clothing looks as a whole. The easiest example to use is a swimsuit. If you look at someone wearing a swimsuit and fantasise about how they look, the way the swimsuit highlights their curves and such, that is a clothing fetish. If you look at them and want to feel or touch it then that is a material fetish. There is a large overlap in these two and a lot of the time the answer is that you have both, though normally to a very mild degree. There is also a large crossover with partialism. If you have a foot fetish you are also probably going to have some level of sock or shoe fetishism, though shoe fetishes are fairly common outside of foot fetishists, think high heels mostly. If you have a fetish for legs then you're probably going to find tights or leggings attractive. Once again it can be hard to definitively say that someone has a clothing fetish as well as a partialism fetish, are they sniffing socks because the socks are erotic to them or is it just because that's where feet were? There are less normal types of clothing fetish though, things that are exclusively made for
Bondage - To start off I want to differentiate between two similar terms. Bondage and BDSM. BDSM has two meanings depending on who you ask. The more common one is bondage domination sadism masochism. Other people will tell you that it stands for b/d d/s s/m, with those being bondage/discipline domination/submission sadism/masochism. Sadism being a sexual pleasure in causing harm, masochism being a sexual pleasure in being harmed. Bondage itself is just a smaller part of bdsm. Bondage itself is any form of physically restrictive item. The most common one you have probably never even thought about is handcuffs, that is the lightest and most common type of bondage. There is then things like corsets, which have a large crossover with clothing and material fetishes. Shibari does not have the same meaning in Japanese as it does English, in Japanese it literally just means to tie or bind, essentially the Japanese word for bondage, not the specific more artistic meaning it has in English. Bondage is anything from handcuffs to being wrapped in a full body plastercast for days. There are then people who enjoy the loss of control that comes with allowing someone else to tie them up. BDSM - As described above. The main difference is that bdsm specifically focuses on the loss of control and the dynamic behind that. The most important thing to remember when it comes to this sort of thing is that it is entirely consensual and that both people are enjoying it. Just like how you think someone kissing feet is gross and not enjoyable, just because one person is being 'hurt' that does not mean that they are not consenting and enjoying it. There is a large difference between a sadistic act and a sadistic person. Most bdsm sadists are not actually sadistic, they do not enjoy bringing other people pain in a normal setting. Omorashi - A specific type of bdsm that revolves around having someone else control your ability to piss and being forced to hold it in until told otherwise or until wetting yourself. ABDL / diapers - Somewhat similar. Another surprisingly female fetish. A number of diaper fetishists are simply just piss fetishists, those are the DL side, standing for diaper lover. Humiliation - Has been somewhat of a running theme in the past few. I will leave it there for the common things. There are many many more fetishes. Some of them are so niche that they simply have no name. What I want to get across is that a lot of these things might sound strange to you but when you actually stop and try to understand why someone might like them you might see yourself reflected in there somewhat. As well as the fact that unless the only thing that turns you on is genitals and the use of them in the most normal way possible (ie hetero penis in vagina or gay penis in ass, I guess fingering for lesbians?) that you have some sort of mild fetish at the bare minimum. That whether you realise it or not, you have much more in common with the people you would call disgusting than you realise.
There is another reason as to why some men in particular are aroused by things that you might find disgusting. It doesn't have a specific name that I can find. But think about things in evolutionary terms. Back in caveman days we did not have showers or soaps or anything like that. If you wanted to have sex it was with something that would smell bad and be unwashed and such. As a result our brains have evolved to temporarily numb the feeling of disgust when aroused. This happens to women too but is less pronounced. You might find something gross but to someone else because they are horny the part of their brain that says it's gross shuts off and to them it is just erotic. Diapers / abdl / ageplay - A fetish for pissing and shitting in a diaper, wearing adult sized versions of children's clothing and acting like a child. This is the main reason I am making this post. The fucking pamperchu thread is full of faggots coming in and saying it's gross and they don't know how anyone could find it erotic. Once again the entire point is that the average person will never be able to understand why it is erotic. It is also very distinctly not paedophilia.
