I keep seeing some absolutely clueless cope on this board with regards to age verification by lusers and nocoders. The reality is we are headed towards a dystopian existence that is far beyond Orwellian, and here are the steps we're taking to Hell on Earth:
1) Homogenization of ID (already done: RealID)
2) Require some web sites to ask for the age of visitors (for example, hunting forums). This sets an important precedent that the state can dictate how webmasters run their portals that will become important soon.
3) Require OSs to have the option of an API and transport layer to certify ID (you are here. Ubuntu is complying). The fact that some OSs don't have it is irrelevant. They only need THE OPTION!
3) Require some web sites to use the new API, starting with those which are already required to verify age.
4) Replace the DOB prompt with a digital ID certificate issued by a certified body. This is essentially game over. You cannot refuse this. You cannot fake this.
5) This will be extended to all forms of authentication, and it will be widely adopted due to convenience. Extra convenient to have an NFC chip in your hand to use any computer (just a terminal for your cloud services) or drive your car or enter your home. This solves the computer lab problem as you will automatically login just by being present. You have already been conditioned to accept this convenience with people using chips to get into clubs, articles by people like Dylan Matthews, and ads where you pick stuff off store shelves and auto-pay just by leaving the store. All propaganda for the plan.
6) Total population control as you can be shut off from government services, banking travel, employment, etc. at the press of a button. People are already being de-banked for their political views in countries like the UK.

You WILL be forced to use this. Linux will NOT save you.
