-nails what winter feels like in cold grey places. think more ppl need to appreciate old rockstar aesthetics. ik this is not rlly a rockstar game but idk the look that this bully and gta3 share during their winter scenes are unparalleled. ill probably never play manhunt bc idk idgaf but I bet those games have lots of cool like grey winter scenes
-the platforming horror prologues are consistently rlly cool and don’t rlly outstay their welcome esp when save-scumming. cool that ur literally reliving/replaying max’s most traumatic moments and it kind of paints him as a total psychopath ie in the fact that he’s responsible for sm death and destruction but is haunted by the only death that’s happened to him. feel like playing mp3 beforehand def endeared me more to max as a character and also having a real person’s face grafted onto the ingame model rlly helps humanize the character as well
-weird survival horror angles in this whenever there’s a cutscene, but like the masc vers of that. specifically lots of overhead diorama ass angles, kind of goes hard. idk I fell off of silent hill 4 real hard after playing like half of it solely bc I was not having fun and it wasn’t what I wanted to see in a survival horror game. idk this is and enough of that has to do w how overwrought and weird the sounds in this game are. the fucking baby crying in all the platforming moments lmaoo. idk this is like a very masculine game but also very in its feelings, very emo I love it
-think seeing non-american’s world view of nyc pre 9/11 is genuinely such an important thing to have esp as someone who has no memories of a world before that. think remedy’s take on the city is just as inspired and prescient as sons of liberty and the only reason this isn’t held in quite as high esteem in that regard is bc idk this didn’t have censorship at the last minute/is a hopeless story in a hopeless world unlike the ending of mgs2/looks and feels more nj than ny

there’s one of the playable worlds that just straight up looks like any peter gabriel music video from the eighties/nineties, so cool

tbh think far too many indie games/art games rely on horror and weirdcore vibes and idk im a little bit bored by that so most of the playable worlds kind of fell flat for me :-// however I rlly do love all the art hanging on the walls and sculptures and stuff. there’s a collection of rural photography by izzy gramp here that i find rlly gorgeous. at a point in one of the kinda lame worlds my laptop’s camera lit up and it fucking scared me and I exited out of that one lmao

don’t understand rhythm games and honestly never fucking will, my coordination is like actually so bad lol. so played this w cheats on and still couldn’t beat a single level but I did see them all and watched all the very cute cuntscenes. skill issue or w/e
big mtv animation/early adult swim vibes going on here. cool mixture of a bunch of diff aesthetics and styles and everything feels so bouncy and alive. lammy’s reflection on that guys teeth is rly fucking cool. reminds me of like mission hill or downtown or like home movies/metalocalypse, great stuff. prob the best loading screens in any game.

sara ramirez is genuinely such a funny person, rlly like her in and just like that even though that’s like not a great show where it would be so easy to phone it in I think their work there kind of elevates the rest of the show. doing like lazy pothead bimbo-cent here and it fucking rules honestly

been rewatching lots of community recently w my boyfriend who never watched it lmao. grew up watching that shit and rlly loving it and then became an adult and was like hold on that show kind of sucked and dan harmon is a weird fucking dude. but id be lying if this rewatch wasn’t rlly like rewarding?? like it’s still def smth that thinks it smarter than it is and hit me at a time in my life where I thought I was smarter than I was but it’s also like frequently rlly funny and weird in how it tackles genre but still feels ultimately like the same show it started out as/fits into the mold of corporate nbc comedies. kind of sucks a lot of the time kind of incredibly sexist and showcases more of harmon’s weird and problematic writing than rick and morty ever does but also i think donald glover and gillian jacobs are so unbelievably talented. idk been thinking of this game a lot bc abed wears multiple de blob shirts in the third(?) season which is rlly funny and kind of places that series perfectly in the early 2010s, costume design in the show kind of goes hard. played one of these de blob games on my ds while camping in my family’s backyard as a child, also played whatever tony hawk game had a motion sensing cart you put in the gba slot, was very cool. i rlly love the 00s

in love w how midwestern this feels like everything just happens at dairy queens or dave and busters or diners. there’s nothing to do in towns like these so it makes sense why some incredibly privileged ppl end up the way they do. still find nicole’s story to be incredibly empathetic and cathartic for me

the backgrounds for each scene r so underappreciated in how they look, consistently blurring the lines between reality and not, dude could make like a rlly good horror game one day this is like basically one tbh
