the only person I know who ever was at a mental asylum was my music teacher I had years ago, he lasted about three months before being outed as a 'edo who messaged female students including me (I am not a retard so I didn't fall for the "wanna go outside for a smoke sometime" but it gave me hope that perhaps I'm not unrapeable geg)

the whole "w-we're just trying to keep people safe!" larp is such a thin lie. it's common knowledge that being committed does no help to suicidal people and the only reason why they (still) exist is because we treat suicidal people as seditionists and murderers who must be cracked down on instead of people going through rough times

anyways, to answer your second question, i wouldn't know. asking information like that of other people was frowned upon

as in if i felt a gut feeling that they were pedos/murderers/etc, no. like me, almost everyone there just needed help. if i had to guess a plurality of people came there because of a suicide attempt or self-harm, which included me. some were likely bpd or ed pooners, or people with anger issues. there was one who i felt bad for because he just seemed autistic and i can't imagine why he would've ended up there. all of the people there were there for so long, they treated the hospital like home.

asylums are much like prisons, yes, because they serve as punishment to people who are just struggling and need a helping hand. i think they should be entirely abolished, they're horrible places to be in especially when people are in crisis

I don't wanna sound insensitive since I've never dealt with mental health problems besides social anxiety ('ellig win) and crying in my bed over raisin nophono cares fan about, but what else are they supposed to do with people actively trying to end their own life? just let them? I mean I'd assume most suicidal people are safe once they get proper help, but then there are those who are activelly biting and kicking away helping hands, and there's really no other way for those people than an asylum where they're kept away from themselves
I wouldn't consider myself much of a religiousDEITY but still I think suicide is never the answer for anyone no matter how miserable.

i get you and for people that are resistant to normal treatment like you said, i would advocate for a home care system set up by family or a church/other community. and yes i agree suicide is never the answer no matter what but why would anyone possibly conceive of throwing these people in what essentially amounts to a jail?

that answer is very difficult for me to answer because 1. i hid all of my problems extremely well and acted completely normal to avoid being sent to an asylum (ev&oe i inevitably did) and 2. i hate being helped by other people. i like it when i can help myself and being helped by other people especially when it comes to my mental health makes me extremely uncomfortable
