Last weekend Amy and I left Leamington encouraged and thankful.

We met business leaders who have walked through real challenges and pain — surrendering, rebuilding, and now stewarding enterprises that are shaping their community in innovative and sacrificial ways.

What struck us most wasn’t the scale of their businesses. It was their God-honouring posture.

I had the privilege of sharing with a group of Christian entrepreneurs about how faith can show up not just in intention, but through strategy and operations — how Kingdom conviction can shape the way we design, lead, and build.

The conversations were honest and generous. I’m grateful for the trust and connection.

A Birthday, a Building, and a Ministry That Moved Us.

This year’s birthday celebration wasn’t just a nice meal—it became a story of surprise. Kelvin Luong and I have been celebrating our shared birthday since we were young, with only one exception many years ago. This time, we found ourselves celebrating in a really fun way—in Barcelona.

As a designer, I’ve always been drawn to beauty with meaning. Over the last two months, I had the chance to trace Picasso’s path—standing where he was born in Málaga, and seeing how his creative fire took shape in Barcelona. That alone would’ve filled my soul.

Then came Gaudí. I’d read about his work for years, but no article or photos could prepare you for standing inside the Sagrada Família. The building is way more than its untraditional and awesome architecture and design for a church, it’s a God story carved in stone—an inspiring space that feels both otherworldly rooted in God’s redemption from creation to Christ’s resurrection.

There was another memorable time in this trip. It was a visit to our friend Africa Motes Garcia, who leads a ministry for Arab youth in Barcelona. We sat with young people who are carrying faith in a culture that often doesn’t understand them. Their hunger for truth, their joy in community, their courage under pressure—it moved us deeply.

The beauty of this trip was woven with so many heartwarming pieces: joy-filled experiences, touching stories, friendship, meaningful times with next gens—all packed in shared explorations in the city, tasty meals, laughter, meaningful conversations, and of course, good coffee and desserts.

I’m honoured for having the chance to share the pulpit at Grace Chinese Gospel Church in North York this morning.

Thank you, Rev. Ted Tam, for welcoming Amy and me so warmly—and what a surprise gift to run into our long-time friend Harry, and our young friend Joshua.

I also had the joy of teaching the young adult Sunday school class.

We touched on a simple but powerful truth from Ephesians 2, that we are God’s workmanship—not saved just from something, but saved for something far more important. God has prepared the path for us. We just walk on it faithfully and boldly.

Grateful for the conversations, prayers, and seeing a community ready to live out their faith in the real world.

Mr. Double flies ITA 🇮🇹✈️

Today, I flew to Rome with a double identity.

At Pearson, Amy and I went through different checkpoints — and every officer took a double look at my passport, asking if I had already checked in at another gate.

When I finally boarded my ITA flight, a young Italian woman was sitting in my seat. The flight attendant checked our passes and paused… both tickets were issued to Philip Yan.

Turns out, ITA had issued my seat to both of us!

Later that evening, as she brought dinner, the same stewardess smiled and said,
“Here you go, Mr. Double.”

Apparently, my Roman adventure started before I even left Toronto. 🇨🇦➡️🇮🇹

Several of our board members were in Montreal over the weekend for the "Innovation and Future Church Forum", hosted by Acadia Divinity College’s Futuring Hub, @missionallabs, Station M, and Power to Change. The forum gathered leaders from across Canada to explore gospel-centered innovation and the future of the Church.

Building on the forum, some leaders gathered the next day for a 'Lausanne Montreal Regional Fall Gathering' at Hope Church - Église Espoir, a space for conversation, prayer, and collaboration around gospel advance in Quebec. It was a rich time of sharing, learning about the gospel movement in Quebec, and strengthening fellowship among missional friends.

As @_philipyan @crecanada reflected:
"It was a blessing to gather with fellow leaders and friends, with deep learning from Philippe Hui and Pastor Yanick Ethier who discussed mission in Quebec. We built missional friendships, shared vision, and dreamed together for gospel advance–discovering again that unity is our strength!🙏🇨🇦"

In recognition of Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we were grateful to receive a recorded message from Dr. Michelle Kwok (@mtinwei), co-founder of Connexion Nordique. She offered blessings and words of honour for the Indigenous peoples of this land, reminding us of the ongoing call to reconciliation and partnership in God’s mission across all communities in Northern Québec and beyond.

Have you met a group of young adults 18-23 years old who love God, deeply missional, artistic, talented, and humble, band together to do something innovative to bless their own generation?

Creative ideas energize us when we discuss issues relevant to them and their peers, what their project is trying to solve, their target audience, the pains and gains, the strategy, the value proposition, and how to communicate the biblical truth in creative ways that would stick.

A full day of introspection and design thinking past Saturday clarified the purpose and direction of their creative venture. There’s a lot more work they have to do moving forward. Amy and I are excited about their innovative venture and its potential impact. Bless these young adults.
