Miles has one obsession in life: magic. He lives it, breathes it, and dedicates every waking hour to it. But the same obsession wears down his body. He needs to recover.

At the peak of his power, he finally chooses to take his rest in the form of artifact-enhanced sleep. He plans his rest to last months, no longer. It extends to centuries.

Miles wakes to an entirely new world: one where magic has become structured and rigid, where mages have given up future potential for something called an interface—an easier, safer path for novices. Mages who once leveled swathes of land and served as the keystones of empires no longer exist. The magic Miles knows has slid into legend.

Someone wants to weaken the world, and they have succeeded.

Miles, however, still lives. He can do everything this new era calls a myth—and much, much more.

Overall, this story is a fun, magical mystery. The MC is over powered, but that doesn’t lead to a stagnent story where he just bulldozes everything in his path.
I mean, he does do that, but his concern is never with winning. It’s with professional curiosity. A scientist and historian displaced in time and trying to put together the pieces.

Genre wise, it’s low fantasy, has portal worlds, no romance, slice of life, comedy, and what I suspect will be a magic school later on.

I would say it’s at a YA reading level. Not too difficult to parse out, and not too thought provoking. An easy read that gives you tidbits of delightful information that locks into what came before and reaffirms it.

the various characters are distinct, and easily memorable. We get to have point of view moments with each of them to get to know them better. And it’s quite delightful to see the ancient mage giddy with all the newness, then switch to the bureaucrat who is 100% sure that this is above their pay grade and wishes to never see the mage again. On the flip side there are characters starved for knowledge who desperately want just a minute of his time to explain the workings of magic to them.

Some grammar errors, but only like 1 1 1/2 every ten chapters.

10/10 would recommend.

Pretty good. Wish it has more chapters.

Basically what the title says. Nothing else to say except, even tho the theme of the story is extremly common (OP mage wakes up in the future or paste where magic is significantly worse for some reason or another), the story is very well written and intertaining which is quite rare here xd. This should be enough words surely.

Definitely worth a read

Eve tho it is a new story with not too many chapters I can defenitely say I’m hooked. The grammar and spelling is as far as I can tell impeccable; the characters we have seen so far well implemented and the MC is slowly but steadily gaining a nice personality (as a sea food lover).

I'm really enjoying this book and the direction is heading in. Feels a lot like Dead Tired which is a story I greatly enjoyed. Love the combinations of magic systems that are going on as well. I laughed out it loud when I read the quote about his handsome self. Definitely give this book a read!

Weak worldbuilding, strange developments

Reviewed at: Chapter 19 - Hope

The premise isn't unique, there are other stories with exactly the same "old mage gets to sleep, wakes up 1000 years later" premise", but it's still something that can be made interesting. I didn't have high hopes just from the first chapter - where the MC makes some questionable decisions. And while the story has some good to it, I won't follow it from chapter 19 onwards for a few reasons.

1. The worldbuilding is quite weak, you'd think that having mages would alter society and the world in many ways - but it doesn't seem to be the case. There's also a distinction between mages and nobles, whatever that means as it's never explored (noble titles were mostly given for military exploits, and what a non-mage can do?). Mages do grunt jobs, even T4 which is supposed to be the second to highest rank in social hierarchy. There's also a bunch of those T4 in some random city, which doesn't even seem to be a capital of a country or that important in the grand scheme of things. That's not how it should work. With great power comes... not responsibility, but social status - when you can kill hundreds of people with a single spell and best an entire army (which t4 mages could from what was shown) you'll be valued by the country, and you'll have countless ways to earn money, especially in a world where monsters exist. None of this is shown in the story - the random city the MC visits is full of mages who're just normal people more or less, and one T3 is forced to earn with scams, for example.

Some things could be said about the MC and the characters, but that's not why I'm dropping the story. Other than the lousy worldbuilding, the greatest reason is in chapter 16.

looks like a very promising start so far

the mc character is done nicley with a good number of side characters that are written in a reliable way.

it doesnt fall for the mc is too OP and everyone is trying to hurt him and gets humiliated. while some of it happens it mostly in good vibes without the need to see who got the bigger one.

the world so far looks pretty nice with a good mystery, nothing too special or intresting but a good read.

all in all recommend for a casual reader. way better than most stuff on the site but not world shaking

Good pacing and story

Reviewed at: Chapter 15 - Ellie the Innocent

The story has a quick pace and is enjoyable. They mystery of what happened while he was asleep is ongoing and the MC is working towards that while also inserting himself back into society, in a way. Not heavy on stats as the interface is new to the MC and he avoids it. Chapters could be a little longer, but they not as short as I have seen. Frequent posting makes up for that. Overall I like the story and the MC is enjoyable enough to follow.

What am amazing start to a story! This grabbed me from the first chapter, and before I knew it I was caught up on content. I can't wait for more! I really love this one. Very well written, and not a single editing issue detected. Miles is quite compelling, and I already have a burning curiosity to see the world through his eyes. Really wonderful story here, I am so happy to have found it!

Seafood-loving Mage Van Winkle

Reviewed at: Chapter 9 - Using Crowns

Miles the archmage settles down to nap for a few months (so his annoying best frenemy will stop bothering him) and wakes up centuries in the future. Everyone seems to have forgotten how to do proper magic, and there's an annoying System infecting the ambient mana. Surviving on mana for so long has left him nearly skeletal, and worst of all, the calendar's changed and it's named after his frenemy. Disaster!

Miles is a fun MC. Watching him upend the status quo with his mere presence and offhand remarks is a delight, and he's quite patient and personable for a reclusive mage. Despite his dismay at the loss of magical ability in the populace, he's still appreciative of what quality-of-life innovations do exist. He also keeps running into people who are friendly, competent, or share his annoyance with the state of the world, though it's usually for different reasons than his.

As of this review, I haven't seen him encounter anyone foolish enough to be an obstacle to him. I know it's coming, though. Popcorn's at the ready.

We do get perspectives from all sorts of regular people, which lets the author show off how ridiculous Miles is by present-day standards. I'm a sucker for that trope, and it's used to great effect.

Do not let this man anywhere near an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet. He hasn't eaten for centuries. There will be no seafood left.

Overall, it's been a pleasant mix of cozy and melancholy. I think finding out WTF happened to magic and his frenemy while bringing the world up to snuff will be great fun.

More please.

Absolutely Brilliant story so far. I am a sucker for all powerful protagonists and this one is good. First off it has lit RPG elements but it is a unique take on such elements and is then smoothly connected to the written world. I can’t help but admire it. I look forward to frequenting this story for a while yet. I can also really appreciate how it gets straight into it. I am not the biggest on super slow burn and long boring intros. I read Royal Road for brain rot reads and let me assure you this work is not that in the slightest. However, it is excellent at stimulating that same dopamine monkey brain of mine that I look to please in reading stories on this platform. This story does exactly that and I don’t feel gross reading it. It is actually a work of imagination, craft, and care. Not much I love more than a story that is quality. Overall, great so far.
