Respec On Death ( Book One Complete )

No noticeable spelling or grammatical errors.

The story draws you in, caring about what is happening. Really good!

There are times in the story that I truly emotionally empathize with the character's situation.

Conversation is realistic imo. This, I think, leads to the story to be so captivating. Have fun reading it. I know I am.

This is a fairly straightforward tactical military Litrpg with a time-loop. Lots of f-bombs, oorah.

If that floats your boat, you may enjoy it. Unfortunately there are significant grammar issues throughout.

The writer has some good points and I think the pace is going well, but it's in strong need of an editor.

I suggest that the writer get someone they trust to proof their work and maybe re-write a bit; the use of commas is particularly egregious.

Those can be quite fun, but in my opinion you need to be able to just rip through them quickly and the grammar pulled me out fairly often. As it is, I am not going to continue.

Binged straight through to chapter eleven (twelve if you cout the prologue.  Great story and I can't wait to read more.  I do not really like getting left with a cliffhanger on the dungeon rewards, but I understand why you did it.

Update at chapter 70: restarted reading from chapter 70 and the book looks really good, lots of gritty action, system cheating and humour, none of the earlier bullshit. Too bad had to skip 20 chapters just to reboot the enjoyment :)

Update at chapter 49: Changed the rating to 3 stars. The book took a dire turn and for 9 chapter straight is filled  with complete and utter bullshit with the MC having zero agency along with the reader having no idea of what is happening and the whole story making zero sense. I really loved the first 40 chapters of this book but this is beyond the pale. I'm dropping the book here, have fun anyone left reading.

Old review before the bullshit arc: An awesome rendition of modern military fighting fantasy battles. There is no vomitous focus on the proper names of military hardware and ammunition types, no nonsensical military chatter over the radio channels - what we collectively call military porn and of which a lot of military themed books on RR are guilty of. Here military is just people and organisation and we see the military through the emotions of a soldier.

The System here is an active  actor, not a back office support mechanic for magic and skills.

I'm writing this review at chapter 36 and the actual Re:death mechanic is something totally obscure and we don't understand how it is supposed to work. But I am loving the book the story the style and the characters even without the namesake mechanic, so probably it's a hint to the author to focus on his unique style and great storytelling rather then death respeccing.

The style is btw just awesome, the river of words just flows steadily and you cannot disengage from the flow until the next chapter button is greyd out. Combat scenes extremely compact and engaging - no skipping chapters after chapters of boring and absurd combat as we have seen in tens of other RR books.

Highly recommended for lovers of military (without the military porn) in fantasy combat setting and mysterious sentient System in a system-integration-apocalypse genre.

Another one worth following. Interesting world, very good characters, good plot, lots of action, fresh, never boring. Likeable MC, many twists and turns. CasualDave42's review sums up the good points of this story much better than I. Just adding my two bits to support a fine piece of writing.

Spoiler free review:

Respec on Death is not, as the name implies, a recarnation story. I only say this becuase people, like myself, often don't enjoy those type of stories as they can get repetitive and have a sort of inevitably to them that make them boring. It might come across as such at first, but its a trick. 

This story is full of twists and turns, extremely well written, well thought out story. While the setting itself is hardly unique it uses the tropes of the setting fantastically. The author is very good at pulling back the curtain, a master of foreshadowing.

This authour also does a great job with characters and their conflicts. In particular they are all fairly distinctive, their conflicts make sense, and they evolve over time. No one in this story really remains static.

It is really difficult to find fault in this work, but there is a few:

1. The world is hardly original. The authour was clearly inspired by others in the apocalypse genre and their setting is fairly generic and tame. Nothing about it really stands out to me. 

2. Every major female character wants to have sex with the MC.

I've really enjoyed the chapters so far. The magical system is interesting and the protagonist's powers are cool so far. Looking forward to how this unfolds. 

(For filling the review word count) Its easy to read and has no noticable spelling or grammar mistakes, at least to my eyes, which is always a plus when picking up a new story. 

This is Godric’s second book and his writing just gets more captivating and addictive.  I quickly became invested in the characters and wait impatiently for the next chapter to discover what happens to them.  The writing style is very descriptive without being overly ebullient, there are no wasted words here.  Well worth the read. Fantastic job Godric.  

Was about to give up home on Royal road given all the trash on this app, but this novel definitely isn’t in that pack.  

Well written characters, fight scenes and overall pacing that flows well, and world building that makes sense and doesn’t step all over itself.  Looking forward to seeing this story continue!
