For the Summer Games, athletes representing Canada first competed at the Games of the III Olympiad St. Louis 1904, taking part in the sports of athletics, football, golf, lacrosse and rowing. At the Games of the III Olympiad St. Louis 1904, athletes representing Canada won a first Olympic medal of any colour, capturing gold in the men’s lacrosse event. For the Winter Games, athletes representing Canada first competed at the I Olympic Winter Games Chamonix 1924, taking in part in the disciplines of figure skating, ice hockey and speed skating. At the I Olympic Winter Games Chamonix 1924, athletes representing Canada won a first Olympic Winter Games medal of any colour, capturing gold in the men’s ice hockey event.
Canada won a total of 26 medals at Beijing 2022, the same as the NOC won as host to Vancouver 2010, and beaten only by the 29 medals it won at PyeongChang 2018. Of its 26 podium finishes in Beijing, only four were gold, which was Canada's lowest golden haul since Lillehammer 1994. Snowboarder Maxence Parrot was the only Canadian to win gold in an individual event in Beijing, as he triumphed in the men's snowboard slopestyle in addition to claiming bronze in men's big air. Canada also won gold in speed skating in the women's team pursuit, and in short track speed skating in the men's 5000m relay, with the NOC's most successful athletes in Beijing coming from these two disciplines. Speed skater Isabelle Weidemann and short track speed skater Steven Dubois both took home a set of gold, silver and bronze medals. Canada's three other multi-medallists in Beijing were snowboarders Eliot Grondin and Meryeta Odine, and short track speed skater Ivanie Blondin. The NOC's fourth and final gold medal in Beijing was won by the women's ice hockey team, who beat USA in the fourth consecutive Olympic women's ice hockey final to feature the two teams. Also in Beijing, Canada won its first ever ski jumping medal, a bronze, in the mixed team normal hill event.
