Hogwarts Legacy finally gets New Game Plus thanks to hard-working fans

Time for another round

Hogwarts Legacy fans can finally play a mode they've been asking for since the game launched last year, and it's all thanks to the hard work of one dedicated gamer.

Hogwarts Legacy has generated well over $1 billion since launching back in February, and we still have the Nintendo Switch launch to come. Rumours abound that Avalanche Software is working on its next project, which is almost certainly Hogwarts Legacy 2, but what about DLC for the current game?

Take a look at one of Hogwarts Legacy's best secrets below!

As far as we're aware there are no plans for Hogwarts Legacy to get an expansion, which seems like a massive missed opportunity. Fans already have tons of ideas for where DLC could go. Heck, even if we don't get story DLC, there are plenty of fans out there who just want to see New Game Plus added to the game.

The good news is that you can now enjoy New Game Plus in Hogwarts Legacy! The bad news? It's not an official download. Still, PC gamers looking for an excuse to replay the magical sim as the nights draw in should definitely check this out.

The Hogwarts Legacy Simulate New Game Plus Save mod does exactly what it says: it starts you in a new game with a bunch of items and progression, similar to how it would go down in an official New Game Plus mode.

The only catch is that you obviously won't start a new game with all the gear and upgrades you earned, as the modder can only simulate their own save. Still, if you fancy starting from scratch with a crap-ton of gear, gold, and all spells unlocked, then you should definitely go ahead and check this mod out.

Hopefully Avalanche Software give us the real thing somewhere down the line, but this will do until then.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 Finally Teased, 2027 Launch Possible For Sequel

Rest assured Hogwarts Legacy fans, Warner Bros. doesn’t appear to have forgotten that you’re all itching for a sequel.

The entertainment behemoth has made it abundantly clear in recent years that it’ll only be focusing on select gaming franchises moving forwards.

Harry Potter, or the Wizarding World, perhaps leads the pack with references to a sequel having surfaced several times.

Avalanche Studios was originally working on both a DLC expansion and extended cut of Hogwarts Legacy with both projects having since been canned.

It certainly felt like an odd move at the time for a game that’s shifted over 40 million copies.

By all accounts though, it looks as if those ideas might’ve been used as a way to speed up development on a sequel as Hogwarts Legacy 2’s arrival may just have been teased.

Warner Bros. Is Teasing a 2027 or 2028 Comeback For Its Biggest Gaming Franchises

As spotted by the industry’s very own Geoff Keighley, Warner Bros. Games’ CEO JB Perrette has said that the company will “return to some of our biggest franchises” in 2027 and 2028.

To state the obvious again, Hogwarts Legacy is by far the biggest.

Alongside the Wizarding World, Warner Bros. previously stated that it would refine its gaming efforts, also focusing on Game of Thrones, Batman, and Mortal Kombat.

Game of Thrones is yet to really conquer the gaming world, while Batman is making its return in just a few months time with LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.

With that in mind, Perrette must be talking about both the Wizarding World and Mortal Kombat as he mentions franchises, plural.

There’s still more to unpack. Perrette makes reference to a return, but that could be interpreted in a number of ways.

Could this be when a reveal is due? Of course, we’re all hoping it’s when a launch is due.

Honestly, I don’t think the latter is out of the question.

Hogwarts Legacy began development roughly in early 2018, launching in early 2023, so that’s a gap of five years.

Development on a sequel could’ve steadily gotten underway in 2023. A 2027 launch would mean a four-year development cycle, while a 2028 launch would mean a five-year development cycle.

It’s not as if devs were entirely starting from scratch this time around.

Certainly, the sequel will require a new story and new locations amongst other things, but the foundations of the formula are there.

Even if Hogwarts Legacy 2 does target a 2028 launch, the previous game was announced several years before its release, so fans could get a reveal as soon as this year.

After years of dormancy, it looks as if it’s finally time to don our robes once more.
