Bro got a spam mail for his first time

[–]obedherthe2nd[S] 43 points44 points  (13 children)

Excuse the ignorance, but, is this what spam looks like? Usually spam tries to reel me into obvious scams. But this one is address to a company, from said company's support email, making vague threats regarding "costumer data." Is bizarre is all.

Nah this got thru my spam filter too,

<image>

[–]obedherthe2nd[S] 11 points12 points  (7 children)

Phew, I'm honestly kind of relieved is just spam.

[–]SquidFetus 53 points54 points  (6 children)

What else could it be? Do you own and operate a restaurant that has millions of customers and were made aware of a recent security breach?

If not, how the hell could this email apply to you in a meaningful way at all?

[–]Trikzon 5 points6 points  (2 children)

It applies because it's sent from hunger rush's support email address (or spoofed to look like it) to, seemingly, many or all of their customers. At the very least customer emails have leaked to someone malicious and at the worst hackers got access to their servers and all the data contained on them.

[–]SquidFetus 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I had to look up what Hunger Rush was. I was thinking, how many people could possibly feel personally targeted by this awfully specific restaurant + millions of clients scenario?

For a management system used by lots of businesses I guess it makes some sense. Still not sure how any one person could feel targeted or compelled to contact for payment unless the email specified that the leak was because of their lack of diligence or something. Even then unless you’re part of the Hunger Rush core team I can’t understand how this would cause personal worry.

Seems like a continuation of a previous communication in its current state, too, which just makes it feel even more awfully specific.

Anyway, now I’m waffling.

[–]Trikzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I never meant that it applies to someone in the sense that they offer payment as the customer. I just meant it’s more important than any other spam email is as this email likely indicates an actual threat to their personal data. There’s not much a customer can do about it though

[–]FUNCSTAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This company works with thousands of restaurants across the country/world. If you received this email you likely have ordered through a restaurant that uses this vendor. I'm not saying I'm worried at all but it seems like a data breach is possible.

[–]obedherthe2nd[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Ransom towards HungerRush? As in "we have your client's/user's data and we plan to sell it unless you outbid our clients" kind of shtick? I was informed of a security breach on my data just before getting this email, so my mind started racing.

[–]CrimsonCringe925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but what company of millions would ever attack you, a Joe Schmo just like me, like that?

It’s social manipulation, same idea on how to divide the US

[–]A--Creative-Username 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're just trying to bait some sort of response to rind live emails to sell to advertisers

[–]WendyTF2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s possible to spoof email addresses making it look like it was sent from a legit, official account.

[–]syn_vamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people fall for scam emails and click malicious links. work backwards from that. it means that there exists forms of scam emails that a nonzero population of people find convincing. what's obviously fake to lots of people might be convincingly real to other people.

scammers throw out as much shit as they can in the hopes that only a little bit sticks.

[–]Tao626 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

vague threats

It's vague for a reason.

[–]jsyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol noooo. but in our defense this came thru disregarded silence and notification setting in its own little way

made itself a little jump scare for some sleeping ppl. even legit emails don’t bypass notification settings like that. It’s on r/weird and like ten other subs for waking some of us I think

[–]FUNCSTAT -1 points0 points  (1 child)

What is the point of your comment? I get spam mail all the time, this is not at all like 99.9% of other spam.

[–]RagingMaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, someone made a different spam mail.

[–]tavikravenfrost 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I received exactly the same one about 30 minutes ago.

[–]FScrotFitzgerald 18 points19 points  (2 children)

This reminds me of that widely-circulated scam email written in very odd English that went something like "Greetings pervert. I have infected your machine with the malicious soft. Unless you transfer 0.4483 BTC to this wallet within eight hours, your family and colleagues will be given the chance to watch as you indulge your evil proclivity. Is this an advantageous for you? I posit that it not."

[–]Accurate_Ferret8491 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh I got that one once, emailed back and asked to be included in the info dump so I could see how well I performed, got back a string of words that were not very nice.

[–]Aggressive-Abalone99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get it so much time which is funny because i don't even have a webcam

[–]numinousrobot 22 points23 points  (3 children)

This does not look like ordinary spam. Assuming it really is from `hungerrush.com`. Hungerrush is used by a bunch of restaurants for delivery/mobile ordering. It looks like they got hacked and the hacker is sending out emails using their system to their customers to get their attention.

[–]ShooteShooteBangBang 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thats exactly what it is. Looks like the ransomer wasn't getting anywhere with Hungerrush and so sent out an mass email to show they mean business.

[–]apterodactylus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're correct. I got the email as well and the pizza place I order from uses hungerrush.

[–]jsyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah this one jumped to front of my phone. didn’t come thru same channel emails are supposed to. did its own weird thing. so glad we have one another in our gullible solidarity

[–]NitrousTroll 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Simple as this: block, delete and ignore.

[–]I_AM_KING_HALLER 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got the same thing! I had no idea what Hungry Rush even was

[–]lalaboom84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got the same thing, yikes

[–]sevyn22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also just got this

[–]MoldavskyEDU 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Data breach, hacker is putting pressure on hungerrush to pay them a ransom so that they don’t sell customer data.

[–]PolymindGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now... that data probably does include that of the people emailed...

[–]htx2025east 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had one where they sent me my nudes and said they were going to share them with all my contacts. The proof they had my nudes was a screen shot of a conversation that included a nude in the body of the email.

I replied that I didn't think the nude was flattering and requested they share one of the following and shared more nudes. They did reply to my request by cursing me out.

[–]mfb1274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yoooo Lfg me too, let’s get back at them

[–]DaveyNicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the exact same email tonight.

[–]AshuraBaron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Standard fishing email. Hoping you'll respond so they can pressure you into sending them money. Same thing with the "we have intimate videos on you and will send them to everyone you know unless you pay us" stuff.

[–]Renuwed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd reply back with the grossest d*** pic the internet has to offer 🫠

[–]665redfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one too! Best to ignore

[–]graybotics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn I love fucking with these people where's mine? I feel left out

[–]Bituulzman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why when businesses ask you for you email, birthday, etc to sign up for their rewards program or to sign a waiver (like at kids' bounce houses, etc) you always make up your info bc the businesses don't protect themselves adequately from your information getting hacked.

[–]DeesEmTees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also got this

[–]Bakurraa 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Are you 12 and online for the first time

[–]obedherthe2nd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I'm just very stupid apparently.

[–]PathologicalFunyun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the same email about an hour ago. I just marked it as trash.

[–]beavermaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got this one too. Ended up in my inbox so marked a spam and off it goes to my junk mail folder. Fuck these people.

[–]sugaarheat 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I am confused by the signature above, which says that this is an important Security Concern

[–]Middle_Aged_Mayhem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP is one day old.

[–]MadMartegen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotten 2 of these today... someone got ahold of hungerrushes email...

[–]foolish-ambitions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Hide My Email with iCloud. I got this exact same email with an email address I only used for a website apparently called bolt.com / Monin syrup order. I deactivated the email address once I got that email.

Would recommend using similar service. I use a different email address for every website so as soon as I get a data breach notification or spam mail, I deactivate that email address and move on.

[–]Raxamax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pp protonmail

[–]Repulsive-Subject149 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Boys I got the same one and I’m panicking. I’m gonna email them. Wish me luck

[–]Blueflowerbluehair -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Reply back "hoe"

[–]thebiologyguy84 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

An email to hungerrush was sent by hungerrush? ..... Yeah Spam!
