headspace-hotelsharpofteeth asked:Given what i know of your situation, i think the one bit of advice i have that might be both doable and helpful is sensory regulation. Everyone's different, but some things that have helped me include
cutting down on light (this was huge for me but everyone's different)In my own place i keep the curtains closed in the day (sometimes open for a maximum a couple hours on sunny mornings) and light it with string lights at night. You could instead use one of those positional desk lamps with a 40w incandescent bulb and aim it angled toward a wall.outside of your own space you could wear sunglasses (you can get lenses that clip onto prescription glasses). Polarised lenses will cut down the bright spots of overhead lights, however they make some screens hard to see. Otherwise if you need to see screens in class, you can wear a hat like a cap to cut out the overhead lights.People who have longterm concussion symptoms (also causes sensory issues) are often advised to do something called "palming" which is just spending 5min a few times throughout the day with hands over eyes. You could probably feasibly do this every time you go toilet tbh, just stay on the seat for a few minutes. Bluelight filters on screens. I have my phone's shitty, limited "eye comfort care" thing on at all times, and redmoon (very flexible & optionally intense tint colour & darkness options) in the evenings. You may also be able to sort a stronger filter depending on your laptop OS (i use KDE on linux and can make the screen actively pink-tinged and it's not even on fully).hearing / noises:or instead of palming, block your ears with your hands and shut your eyes.i've never tried loop earplugs but they come highly recommended to cut down on a few very uncomfortable frequencies while still hearing what you need to hear.otherwise, there's a few different styles of earplugs with different costs & amounts of noise reduction. You can put an earplug in one ear instead of both to help hear the stuff you need to, just make sure you spend about equal amounts of time in each ear.it's also possible to wear NC headphones over earplugs, comfort will vary based on earplug type. This is very effective at cutting out basically All Sound. I used to listen to music loudly in headphones with earplugs in, so all i could hear was music and no background noise like vehicles.
Tactile:i don't think i need to talk about texture because i know you know what works for you (natural fabrics & no sunscreen iirc)you may find it beneficial to do things like scrub your skin with a (wet or dry) boars-hair brush or something, however you may find it unpleasant or overwhelming. you might benefit from pressure. Weighted blankets are usually recommended for this (i also have some made with glass beads & the case of a body pillow (2 layers), so they're dense, suprisingly portable but heavy ofc, and work super well for whole body, lap-only, or round the shoulders.)Other pressure options when out & about with no equipment includes things like wearing a heavy backpack or putting it on your lap, contracting muscles (i usually do this for only a few seconds at a time, usually alternating sides), or squeezing or pressing on body parts (eg. Often when sitting i'll run my hands firmly along my thighs.)Some people also benefit from intentionally increasing taste, oral motor (chewing), smells (often carrying a little scented vial on them), and vestibular input (rocking, swings, spinning, or even just putting your head between your knees. Some people struggle with too many smells, using unscented products is good but doesn't help with other people. Masking is a way to cut that down but that puts texture on your face which some people don't deal with well.Sidenote: idk how you're socialising but i (currently doing well) have noticed i have about a 3hr limit depending on person. You might find limiting social time to 1-2 hour blocks (or even half an hour) helpful to not crash after. I also find one-on-one much easier than groups, though one of my friends i find his attention a bit intense somehow? So with him i can handle best with a third person.Best of luck on getting through allthe college shit. Hopefully tumblr doesn't fuck the formatting of this so it's actually reasonably legible.Hi there sorry this was a while back but this is a great resource for managing sensory issues, its got some things i worked out on my own and some things new to me. Really great stuff thanks for writing this out 394203

headspace-hotelRebloggedheadspace-hotelFollowthis is so embarrassing headspace-hotelhe's the guy of all time headspace-hotelMy God, Sharon Carter was defanged in the MCU headspace-hotelSo, a lot of the tropes that are staples in Buckyfic originate from things in these comics that didn't carry over to the MCU. E.g. Bucky's speech patterns in dialogue in fanfic are very much comics!bucky rather than MCU!Bucky. The idea that Bucky was intended to function as Cap's partner who does the dirty work that Cap couldn't be seen doing onscreen in propaganda films (killing people) appears in a lot of fics and that comes from here. MCU did a couple of things that lit the fuse for this story to be truly explosive in the Collective Sicko Consciousness, though: for one, exchanging the domino mask for a mask that covers the Winter Soldier's mouth and nose, evoking the idea of a muzzle, paired with some sick ass eyeliner. Whereas comics!winter soldier does some snarking and bantering when he's fighting, and engages in dialogue with other characters, MCU!winter soldier hardly talks at all; iirc it's not quite clear if he can while he's masked. He's not a Darker and Edgier, evil iteration of the same person (as in the comics) he's a black hole. The other thing the MCU did... okay, two closely related things. One, it made Bucky and Steve roughly the same age and eliminated the hero-sidekick dynamic. Two, it completely failed to sell the idea that Steve is in any way attracted to women. In the comic version of this storyline, Sharon is a major secondary character whose relationship to and history with Cap is a major source of tension, conflict and uncertainty; in the same storyline in the movies, she is completely sidelined and Steve shows zero signs of genuine attraction to or interest in any female character. Seriously, MCU!Steve is shown being kissed three times by women, twice non-consensually and causing him clear discomfort, once with dubious consent (iirc, he didn't seem distressed when Peggy kissed him, but he didn't really reciprocate). The conversation he had with Peggy about dancing with her was when he was psyching himself up to face death so I don't think that reads as an expression of romantic interest? Compared with comics!Steve, MCU!Steve easily reads as a gay man, and I've said it before that this is a really interesting take on his character considering the relationship the concept of Captain America has to Eugenics and the Nazis, and it's a crying shame that it couldn't be explored headspace-hotelall y'all tagging this like "I'm not really into marvel but this is interesting"As though I wasn't just like any of you, mere months ago, before Blorbo grabbed me by the ankles and dragged me in like the fuckin sarlacc pit #the bucky#bucky barnes#category 5 the character incident14148446

I'm not a guy who is formally trained in verifying information. If I'm not talking about a thing, or not reblogging on the thing, it's because I do not trust myself to be able to verify the information about it. It's not a statement of my politics. It's me being careful.Because misinformation and disinformation are a plague! And I'm doing my part not to spread the stuff. This new year's resolution was from 2024, but it remains evergreen, and it's never going to be fulfilled, because there is always more information to try and verify.527719

headspace-hotelReblogged lizardlickstoastyglowFollowI think one of the best things I learned from my last therapist was the idea that when there's a box in your mind you need to open, you don't have to open it all the way on the first try.what I mean is that she said "you didn't deserve <bad thing that happened to you>" and I said, "I feel like I know that intellectually, but I don't really believe it deep down". and she said, "do you think you can try to believe it just a little bit, as an experiment?" and I started crying lmaotrying to change a core belief entirely all at once is scary, especially when it exists as a protective measure. try giving yourself a cheeky bit of plausible deniability! you're just dipping your toes in the water of self-esteem, you're just having a little wade! you don't have to go swimming right away, and you can always step out if you want. (but the longer you spend in the water, the more you start to understand you're actually safe there...hm, who could have predicted this...)so that's my advice: if there's something real and true you can't seem to believe, take some time to try and really believe it just a little bit, even if you're only pretending at first. climb the staircase one step at a time instead of trying to put one foot all the way at the top!379,15114,748

I didn't know this was gonna happen either. Summary: A broken, disillusioned Steve Rogers is afflicted by a delusion that the mysterious assassin who nearly killed him is actually his best friend, who died 70 years ago. SHIELD wants to lock him up and return him to being a perfect, sparkling nationalist symbol as quickly as possible. Sam Wilson, who has wrestled with his own disillusionment and his own ghosts, knows that Steve needs compassion and the support of a true friend, not a forced regime of recovery that takes away what is left of his shattered autonomy.
Meanwhile, as Natasha tries to track down the Winter Soldier, her discoveries get more and more disturbing. She uncovers footage of the Soldier being subjected to, and forced to commit, horrific acts to maintain Hydra's cruel hierarchy. What's more, his resemblance to Steve's dead friend is too close to be coincidence.
Sam and Natasha grow determined to stop the Soldier from being recaptured by his abusers, but how will Steve react when he learns the true extent of the Soldier's torture, and the true horror of what he was twisted into?
Is the Winter Soldier Bucky Barnes? Or is he something wearing Bucky Barnes's face?
Which of those things is worse?I have content warnings in place as beginning notes for chapter 2 because that's where all the concerning stuff is. It's not detailed but I'll warn you anyway. I'll add more notes and stuff pretty soon. and i'll try to tweak the formatting a little better headspace-hotelBecause I can't control myself, I am giving you chapter 3. Bucky's POV! headspace-hotelReblogged lakesandquarriesnonexistentnullFollowi really wish people could make characters with scars and just be normal about it. scars are just a feature, like brown hair or freckles, all it means is that you got an injury in the past. Scars are not gross or ugly or tragic or intimidating or scary or gorey or body horror, they are just a normal trait that a lot of people have. if i’m allowed to be picky, i also wish people could be more thoughtful/realistic when deciding on scars. like do some research and think ‘how did this injury happen’. if someone got attacked by wolves, how does that give them a straight cut scar across their face? and where are the other effects of these injuries? nerve damage, contractures, amputations, brain damage, PTSD, chronic pain, speech issues, sun sensitivity, blindness, etc? and please do research on these too, its good, its not that difficult. i want to see characters have scars, and still be able to be normal, and cute/pretty/beautiful/sexy, and loved, and happy. this includes people with extensive burn scars, with skin grafts, with tons of reconstructive surgeries, who are missing eyes or noses or ears or limbs. this includes people with keloid scars, who don’t look normal, who have “gross” symptoms from their injuries. this includes people who have scars from elective or cosmetic surgeries, and surgeries that were botched. this includes people who have scars from self harm or suicide attempts. please give more characters scars, and be normal about it. i am (politely) begging you. (sorry if this comes off as aggressive/accusatory, i struggle with tone)nonexistentnulldefinitly! i should of mentioned those more. if people want to give their characters scars (which i highly encourage), just having had surgery is a great idea. surgery can definitely be traumatic and life changing, and it does need research, but it can also be a pretty mundane and casual thing too. i had a major surgery and i have a large scar from it, and it’s one of my favorite features and fun-facts about myself. in the tags people are also mentioning acne and dermatillomania scars, and those are cool to see too :) (smiley face) 412,3733,792
