The Vergecast crew will be talking Apple live at 11AM ET.

We have new Macs, new iPhones, new iPads, new Studio Displays, and more to talk about, and for once Nilay and I are in the same place – so we’re going to hop on a stream and talk it all out live! Tune in and hang with us for an hour or so on The Verge’s YouTube channel, starting at 11AM ET. (11… ish. Hopefully New York City traffic doesn’t ruin this.) Come chat as we try to figure out whether 8GB of RAM is a complete deal-breaker for the MacBook Neo.

Why is SpaceX going public?

“I am hesitant to foist being public on SpaceX, especially given the long term nature of our mission.”

Aqara’s U400 now supports Samsung’s Home Key.

The smart lock, which launched earlier this year with support for Apple’s Home Key, is the first to work with Samsung’s new Digital Home Key.

The feature uses NFC powered by the new smart lock standard Aliro and lets you unlock your door by tapping your Samsung Galaxy smartphone on the lock. Aqara says UWB-based, hands-free unlocking is coming in Q2 2026.

Tecno’s impressive modular phone.

It’s just a concept, but it’s fully functional at the big MWC show. Even the mix-and-match magnetic accessories seem to all work on the prototype we tested.

OpenAI is developing a GitHub rival.

Prompted by recent GitHub outages, OpenAI is in the early stages of developing its own code repository, with completion still months away. The company is considering making it available to OpenAI customers, putting the ChatGPT creator in direct competition with Microsoft, a company holding a significant stake in OpenAI.

The Switch 2’s Virtual Boy lineup is getting two new games.

If you have a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription, you’ll be able to play the Virtual Boy version of Mario Tennis and a game called Mario Clash starting March 10th. (That’s Mario Day.) Nintendo is also adding the Game Boy Advance version of Mario vs. Donkey Kong to the service.

Confirmed: the new Castlevania game isn’t a roguelike.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, set to launch this year, is being made by Konami and two studios behind the roguelike Dead Cells, Evil Empire and Motion Twin. Given the history of those two studios, I asked Konami if Belmont’s Curse was a roguelike, and the answer is that it’s not.

Castlevania Belmont’s Curse is a 2D Action-Exploration game where players can freely explore vast, elaborately crafted maps,” Tommy Williams, Konami’s Head of Communications for the Americas, tells The Verge. “It is not a roguelike or roguelite game.”

For the Scavengers Reign fans out there.

Jonathan Djob Nkondo, an artist who helped shape the sci-fi show’s distinctly alien look, launched a Kickstarter for a pair of graphic novels that look very similar in tone. The campaign already surpassed its goal, and the books are expected to start shipping later this year. (Fun fact: he also contributed to the beautiful new Gorillaz short film.)

Audible’s new subscription option is less expensive, but lacks a major perk.

The new “standard” Audible subscription announced on Tuesday costs $8.99/month, compared to $14.95/month for the existing premium plan. Users on the standard plan get one audiobook each month, but unlike premium subscribers, don’t keep access to those audiobooks if they cancel their subscription.

Correction: Audible’s “standard” tier does not issue audiobook credits.

OpenAI says ChatGPT’s new update adds more context to search results.

The new GPT-5.3-Instant model rolling out today is supposed to be more accurate, understand the context of questions, and “reduces unnecessary dead ends, caveats, and overly declarative phrasing that can interrupt the flow of
conversation.”

Does that mean the return of 4o’s glaze? Maybe not, but a blog post says 5.2-Instant’s tendency toward “coming across as overbearing or making unwarranted assumptions about user intent or emotions” has been addressed.

Protesters plan to gather outside OpenAI’s offices today to protest its Pentagon deal.

The protest’s planned focus is AI-powered mass domestic surveillance and lethal autonomous weapons. It’s organized by QuitGPT, a grassroots campaign that says it’s inspired more than 1.5 million people have to take relevant action (by either sharing on social media or signing up for the boycott itself).

It’s almost question time.

Pokopia is out this week, and it’s one of the more interesting Pokémon spinoffs, mashing up games like Animal Crossing, Minecraft, and Dragon Quest Builders. If you’re curious just what’s going on in the game, The Verge’s poké-experts Charles Pulliam-Moore and Kallie Plagge will be answering questions at 2PM ET.
