羽田タートルサービス主催・能登半島支援の柔道教室が10月27日に羽咋市武道館で行われ、上水研一郎東海大監督、村尾三四郎選手とともに参加してきました。
午前は中学生、午後は小学生の部に分かれて行われ、保護者の方も含め300人ほどが来場していました。
やはり、パリ五輪銀メダリストの村尾三四郎の技と解説に子どもたちは大興奮。皆さん喜んでおられたと思います。
能登半島は、１月の地震、そして先月の豪雨で厳しい状況に置かれています。
そんなときに皆さんと、少しでも気分が明るくなるような時間を作れたらと思って参加しましたが、私自身、皆さんと一緒に柔道をしてとても楽しく過ごさせていただきました。
また、村尾選手が自然体で楽しそうに参加している姿を見て、
彼が自分の使命をしっかりと理解していると思いました。
もちろん現役選手の一番の使命は、世界の舞台で結果を出して多くの人に喜んで頂く事だと思います。
しかしながら嘉納治五郎師範は柔道修行の目的は社会を補益することにあると説いていますから、村尾選手はまさにこれを実践していると言えます。
また、最近は現役選手がその使命を認識し、活発に活動してくれている姿を多く見る事ができているのも大変嬉しく、頼もしく思います。
今回の柔道教室でも、柔道家としてこれからも出来る事をやっていきたいと思いましたし、
参加者の皆さんの笑顔を見て、我々には微力ながら皆さんのお役に立てる力があるという事を実感する事が出来ました。

HANEDA Turtle Service in Noto
Along with coach AGEMIZU Kenichiro and judoka MURAO Sanshiro I attended a judo class organised by HANEDA Turtle Service to support the Noto Peninsula on October 27th at the Hakui City Budokan.
Over 300 people, including parents took part. Junior high kids in the morning and elementary school kids in the afternoon.
Everyone enjoyed the event but in particular the children were super excited to watch Paris Olympic medallist MURAO’s techniques and listen to his explanations.
The situation in Noto is dire after the earthquake in January and torrential rains last month.
My hope was to bring even just a little bit of relief and enjoyment to the people there but doing judo with everyone I also thoroughly enjoyed myself.
I felt that MURAO also had a firm grasp of his mission watching him interact happily and naturally with the children.
Of course, the most important role for an active athlete is to achieve results on the world stage and bring joy to as many people as possible. However, in the teachings of KANO Jigoro we learn that judo practice is meant to contribute to society which is this case MURAO most definitely did.
Recently it has been great to see so many athletes who are aware of their mission out there actively working on it.
Following this judo class I hope to continue doing whatever I can as a judoka. Seeing the smiles of the participants realized that we do have the power to help people even if only in a small way. A big thank you to everyone.
