Apple has launched a lot of new products this week, but as often happens, those introductions also mean discontinuations of existing products. Here are seven Apple products that have been discontinued this week.
Apple’s discontinued products include iPhone, iPad, Mac models and more
New Apple products launching always comes with at least some models being discontinued. That’s exactly what’s happened this week.
Apple has debuted six new products so far, and that’s led to discontinuations of seven existing products.
Here’s everything that’s been discontinued:
- iPhone 16e ⇾ replaced by iPhone 17e
- M4 MacBook Air ⇾ replaced by M5 MacBook Air
- MacBook Pro with M4 Pro and M4 Max ⇾ replaced by MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max
- M5 MacBook Pro with 512GB storage ⇾ replaced by M5 MacBook Pro with 1TB storage
- M3 iPad Air ⇾ replaced by M4 iPad Air
- Apple Studio Display (2022 model) ⇾ replaced by new Studio Display
- Pro Display XDR ⇾ replaced by Studio Display XDR
iPhone 17e, M5 MacBook Air, the MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max, and the M4 iPad Air are all pretty straightforward year-over-year updates.
They offer the same basic feature sets as their predecessors, but with some valuable upgrades too.
The low-storage M5 MacBook Pro discontinuation is an unexpected one. Apple just launched the M5 MacBook Pro back in October, and now it has already removed the base 512GB option so that buyers have to opt for 1TB or more—at a higher price.
On the display front, the new Studio Display offers straightforward improvements over the 2022 model. But the Studio Display XDR has both pros and cons compared to the Pro Display XDR it replaces.
11th-gen base iPad might be discontinued this week too
Apple isn’t done launching new products this week. There are likely two more products being introduced on Wednesday:
- MacBook Neo
- iPad with A18 chip
The MacBook Neo is an entirely new model in Apple’s lineup, so it won’t lead to any discontinuations.
However, if the new iPad with A18 debuts, it likely means the current base iPad will no longer be available. The 11th generation model launched last March.
This 11th-gen iPad has an A16 chip and is the only iPhone, iPad, or Mac currently for sale that doesn’t support Apple Intelligence. By replacing it with an A18 model, Apple’s full lineup will be AI-compatible.
