sketched Caenis to practice forming dynamic poses... (they're v fun to draw so expect more Caenis from me eventually)
I love that Yor is fully aware of Loid's massive blind spot when it comes to her.
There's a lot of bullshit in jjba but I think the explanation of sandman's sprinting technique in steel ball run is my favorite on the scale of how stupid it is
Like Hamon, Sound Man's technique is actually based on and inspired by real world South American indigenous running styles. I won't go into detail for the sake of privacy [the peoples who are the best in the world at running are the best because it's, tldr, sacred to them] but they're world famous for a reason. The human body is incredible when you know how to use it, when from mother to daughter your technique has been honed to razor edge over hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of generations
Araki is good at making shit up though! :) the way he matter of factly explains his own personal physics, freeballing off real world physics, is very fun
Look I'm all for putting respect on the knowledge abilities and traditions of indigenous people and to be clear I am an (admittedly uninformed and unread) supporter of (the idea of) landback
But when I'm poking fun at a fictional story's explanation of a character's long distance running technique that lets him hit an average speed just shy of the fastest recorded speed a human has ever hit during a 100 meter sprint, and slightly lower than double the fastest recorded average speed achieved by a marathon runner, and you're coming to tell me that explanation is based on something real I need at least a little more information than you're giving me
Solidarity under any circumstances! Including confusing Tumblr exchanges. This is my first reblog chain, did you know? Thanks for the opportunity. I love showing people what kind of people exist in the world. I also like reading people's media analysis, and things like that, so thanks
Google "Lorena Ramirez", she's a famous Raramuri ultra-marathoner. You might like her interviews. There are a lot of documentaries you can find if you Google about the Raramuri people
Araki invented his explanation of the physics. What I'm saying is that a lot of Araki's work, in Baoh and JJBA, is inspired by real world practices and methods used by American Indigenous Peoples. He loves pan-indigenous Americas like he loves his Italians.
Just to make sure we're on the same page, I don't think anyone can do what Sound Man does, he's a magical fictional character. I'm also not going to explain how the running works because Raramuri run as a form of "prayer" [not analogous to abrahamic prayer] and connection with their ancestors; that's not my business. Just know they put a fuck ton of training and willpower into it, and have honed efficient techniques over hundreds of generations with the goal of going faster, longer, better
I also think Araki's bullshit is funny. I just though you would love an opportunity to learn that people are cool in real life
Blind guy who hooks into one of those SAO, Ready Player One style super tech virtual reality games not sure what to expect, because the game ostensibly communicates directly with your brain to convey the virtual landscape but he's been blind since birth.
So is it going to... make him able to see for the first time in his life...? He's kind of curious what that would be like.
But it turns out the answer is no, since the game's system constructs its reality based on the player's ability to perceive reality, it can't actually do that. If he'd been able to see at a prior point in his life it probably could, but since he never has it's got nothing to work with there. But it does still have vital information to convey, usually done via the medium of elaborate sensory illusions. The player can get the pressure, weather, cold and hot, taste and scent and texture and so on data just fine, but the visual input keeps getting confused. After a few very trippy false starts, the game's system determines that it will simply deliver the necessary data in this category as it would if it was communicating with another computer.
So the player just gets visual information delivered as knowledge blasted straight into his brain. He just. Knows it. Simple, right?
Other people are often like, why do you keep playing that game if you can't even see it though, wasn't that the whole appeal?
They don't get it. The other sensory stuff is still rad of course, but also, our player does not need to parse through elaborate illusions to figure out what's going on around him. He doesn't need to peer through the grass or trees or get up high to look around, he just knows that there is a lvl.22 Ogre barrelling towards his back left and an SSS rank rare plant four feet to his right and two players on lvl.41 and lvl.38 wyverns flying overhead. Because if he could see, that would all be potentially within his line of sight, and because he can't see, he doesn't have to do the work of actually looking around to know it. He can even track enemies or other players in stealth mode because there is a very faint visual tell that the game applies, and it parses this to him as just the awareness that something is in stealth nearby.
He freaking loves this game. He's like a god!
Happy 30th birthday Pokemon! Here are some of my fav dogs (and the new orb!)
