It’s been a crazy couple of months and I have a huge backlog of art to post here! The first one being an illustration of the silver birch, which is starting in its white bark, bright yellow leaves in the fall and it’s large, scrawling root system. Birch or beith is the first letter in the tree based Celtic alphabet and was also a part of the Norse runic divination system as berkana. Belladonna is a plant with an impact culture and medicine that is poisonous in large doses. This beautiful plant was given its name by Italian women who used it to dilate their eyes and enhance their beauty. Sugarbush (Rhus ovata)I lived in Los Angeles for years and wanted to give tribute to the plants that helped pull me out of depression by learning about their adaptations and intricacies.The sugarbush flower looks like delicate cherry blossoms, yet blooms in the arid region of Baja California. To me, it spoke a lot of the resilience and beauty despite the dry climate. These plants have amazing adaptations to thrive in such harsh condition such as drought and heat waves and still produce such delicate blooms.I have dried sugarbush flowers I have placed into jewelry and will be accompanied by this art.
