Portrait of Michael Levenson

Michael Levenson

I report on a wide variety of news, including wars, natural disasters and court cases. I contribute my own reporting and work closely with other reporters and editors to turn our live coverage of a major event, which is published as a series of short online updates, into a single main news story, bringing together the key facts and context for readers. When I’m not covering breaking news, I enjoy reporting on offbeat discoveries, unusual news and people who are not normally in the spotlight.

I began my career in journalism at the State House News Service, covering politics and government in Massachusetts. I then reported for The Boston Globe, covering City Hall, the Massachusetts State House, presidential campaigns and news around New England. I joined The Times in 2019 as a member of the Express Desk, which covers breaking news and trending stories.

I take seriously my ethical responsibilities and am committed to upholding the standards of integrity outlined in our Ethical Journalism Handbook. I don’t contribute to political causes or accept gifts or favors. I often call people back multiple times to ensure that what I am reporting is accurate.
