Simple, they know china has the strangle hold from supply chain/eco system to manufacturing EVs. They can't beat the it. They have no other option now but to push for other alternatives like Hydrogen, solid state & spreading disparaging remarks w.r.t. EVs

u cannot compete with the chinese. They got government subsidy and have a 20 year head start. They give your the "huge" chinese market but in return would want you to share some IPs and manufacturing know how. They are also confident that their vendors would eventually push you out of the chinese market once the market is mature & with the set up the EV eco system. Ask Tesla
