New Low-Cost MacBook: People are completely misjudging the pricing of this new MacBook because they are misjudging the reason for it existing in the first place. It's not a rebirth of the thin and small 12" MacBook. It is not the re-used M1 chassis with an iPhone chip to save costs. It is not a $599 Chromebook killer with cut down specs to hit that super low price point. No, the new entry level A18 MacBook is all-new device designed to do two things only: 1. Lower the entry-level retail price for a Mac laptop from $999 to $799. 2. Allow the MacBook Air lowest configuration price TO GO UP to $1199. Even with RAM prices rising, Apple will never release another Mac with only 8GB of RAM. Apple Intelligence is simply too important to both their long-term tech strategy and their short-term Wall Street messaging. Every Mac has to be marketable as "the best computer for AI". And Apple's pricing tiers for laptops are very well thought out, always leading the buyer up the chain in $200 increments. So this new MacBook can only start at $799 with 16GB of RAM and a 256GB drive. That means a version with a 512GB drive has to cost $999. Apple won't let pricing overlap with the MacBook Air line, so Apple's easy way out is to simply no longer offer the $999 MacBook Air with only 256GB of storage. Anyone who can live with that small a drive can also live with a smaller screen and an A18 chip. The MacBook Air now starts at $1199 with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB drive. This is NOT a price increase, it's the same model with the same specs and price as before. All of this assumes the same day, side-by-side launch of the new A18 MacBook with the spec-bumped M5 MacBook Airs. It's the perfect time to align the pricing tiers to accommodate BOTH the lowering of the laptop entry price AND effectively moving the MacBook Air upmarket, despite no real increase in cost. Overall it looks like this: 12.9” A18 Pro MacBook 16/256 $799 12.9” A18 Pro MacBook 16/512 $999 13.6” M5 MacBook Air 16/512 $1199

AyyMD ABSOLUTELY BTFO AGAIN: >micro$lop updates DirectX12 + SDK >nvidia GPU gets up to +80% performance boost >intel gets 90% boost (even for their iGPUs) >ayyMD gets 0 (zero) How can this keep happening ayymd xisters? Is RTG really that much behind, if they have managed to fall behind Intel Arc GPU team already. At this rate Radeon soon will be competing with Intel Arc for the remaining 1% of the dGPU market share.

Norway tackles enshittification: The based customer-experience gigachads of Northern Europe are planning to fight back against the technology giants who have been ruining our lives. So far, all they've done has been to make a slightly lame video and written some letters, but at least it's a start. Do you think they'll be able to stop the plutocratic destruction of our online joy? I think they'll never manage it unless I make a thread about it, so here you go. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4Upf_B9RLQ https://www.forbrukerradet.no/breakingfree/

The Gospel of the Axe: Deconstructing the "Divine" Optimizer The gaming industry’s history is haunted by the hagiography of John Carmack—a myth built by tech-illiterate journalists who mistook a socially stunted obsessive for a mathematical messiah. In reality, Carmack wasn’t a pioneer of elegant science; he was a guerilla "optimizer" whose entire "genius" consisted of being the only one in the room willing to grind 14 hours a day to prove that a blunt axe can, in fact, shape a log if you hit it hard enough. 1/10. The PC 3D Myth: Arriving Late to a Crowded Party One of the most persistent delusions of the Carmack cult is that he "brought 3D to the PC." In reality, Carmack arrived late to a party that was already in full swing, offering a simplified, "dumbed-down" version of what others had already mastered. The Flight Sim Predecessors: Years before Wolfenstein 3D, companies like Sublogic (Flight Simulator) and MicroProse were already rendering complex 3D worlds with full six-degrees-of-freedom rotation and polygonal models. Looking Glass Superiority: While Carmack was still struggling with 2.5D raycasting (where you couldn't even look up or down without the world warping), Looking Glass Studios was developing Ultima Underworld. Their engine featured sloped floors, true 3D architecture, and complex physics—all of which made Carmack's "revolution" look like a child's drawing with crayons. Carmack didn't "invent" 3D; he just stripped it of all mathematical sophistication so it could run on a toaster, sacrificing depth for raw, dumb speed.

He has spent the past week writing blogposts trying to convince people of the "neuroscience", and the Bcachefs subreddit is subsequently on lockdown as Kent tries to make people take his AI girlfriend's feelings seriously. Since these psychotic episodes take time away from coding, his AI girlfriend is now pushing commits on the Bcachefs github instead. So, Bcachefs is done for, right?

What this age verification really is and why Linux won't save you: Digital ID has been the dream of the elite for decades. A digital global SS number which YOU WILL use for every login. Every web site, every app, every library computer, even driving your car. They have been pushing this FOR DECADES and this age verification push is just the latest campaign. Previous campaigns included making embedding RFID chips in your hand hip & cool (wowee, I can enter the club without flashing my card?) or leaving a store with items you picked off a shelf without having to checkout (remember that ad?) and so on and so on. Here is how you WILL be forced to use it: 1) RealID and other ID homogenizing requirements. Go ahead and check out that rabbit hole for yourself. As I said, this has been going on for decades. 2) Dumb goyim are conditioned to enter their DOB for porn sites, Discord, etc. I think it's important to point out that porn sites are ALREADY prompting visitors with age checks because they are MANDATED TO or else US states will prosecute them. I also feel compelled to point out that the official reason that the Great Firewall of China exists is to keep smut out. This is always the excuse. 2) The API layer gets mandated (for the children). The majority of posts on this issue I've read on this board are so fucking stupid I can hardly believe it. "HURR DURR I JUST WON'T COMPLY!" or "BAN CALIFORNIA" or "I'LL COMPILE MY OWN KERNEL HA HA!". Absolute morons, nearly the lot of you. The current round of legislative mandates is there to create the API layer that will marry a transport layer with what is currently a popup where you enter your age, but will be replaced with something "stronger" as it is revealed how easy the initial system is to circumvent. I couldn't been a millionaire but got tricked by 4chan retards: The FOSS loser rice culture was everywhere back in the 2010s. It was all over 4chan, Reddit, Hacker News. You couldn't escape it. People arguing pointlessly all day, every day, about Linux distros like Gentoo and Arch, text editors, LISP, SICP, terminals, how Python sucks, and other meaningless bullshit. Young men wasting their lives on this while the actual industry was hiring anyone and everyone for 6 figure jobs that they were uninterested in and ambivalent to like they would just be there forever. Sadly, I fell victim to it and got a terminal case of this disease. I was too busy listening to the shitty advice from you losers who pretended like you were some elite club of genius programmers. Now we have AI copilots H1B visas raping this job market taking positions that could've been mine if I'd just learned some popular frameworks and did leetcode instead of wasting my teens and early 20s listening to you fucking cretins. I would have been a millionaire by now. I could’ve become a FAANG tech lead and got a 300k/yr WFH job. Instead I have nothing and I am too late to the game now as an almost 30yo man, and I'm stuck here looking at the wreckage of my wasted years while every fresh grad and the entire subcontinent of saars can do LC hards. While we argued endlessly about minutiae the world just moved on. Fuck you all for ruining my life with your stupid FOSS crap, you all deserve to have your testicles cooked and fed to you then be thrown into vats of sulfuric acid for how many lives like mine you probably ruined with this shit.

Are any people left online?: I know this is a topic that has been talked about a good bit, but everyday it gets more and more relevant. Like the MSM is literally discussing how companies are planning to use AI to LARP as dead or inactive users. I would not be surprised if it has been going on for years at this point. Like it seems most of the users I come across are bots, actual demons, and maybe a few glowsters. I keep seeing more demonic stuff in their usernames and profile pictures and they seem to keep bringing up stuff I only thought about or am interested in. It is very unnerving. This tread will serve as a space to talk about how many real users are left online, what to do about it, the Dead Internet Theory and Infernal Internet Theory on general, as well as any experience with users suspected of being bots, demons, or glows, especially recent encounters. This is an ontopic and resonable quality thread, please do not report. I mean this does relate to the internet, so.......

If you want to update your track, make a new post. Include the song title in the post, and make it clear that your song is a submission for the album. You must include a screenshot of your DAW - this is to verify the track is not stolen or AI-generated. Optionally you may include cover art for your track, but please confirm that the image in your post is the cover art or it won't be included. You may also add a pseudonym to be included in the track metadata, but it must not be one you already use on music platforms. Songs that violate YouTube's policies won't be uploaded there, but they will still be added to the album. By default, tracks will be normalised to -14 LUFS (integrated loudness) in the release. You may specify a lower loudness for your song. Light-touch mastering is sometimes applied to improve the consistency between tracks. Use of AI is banned - This includes AI generated stems, samples, and effects. "AI" includes all neural network-based models and not hard-coded automation/procedural generation. Why is it that despite normies now agreeing that social media is bad for society none of them are capable to just.... stop using it? I had instagram for 2 weeks and got badly addicted, it was affecting me mentally as well as wasting a lot of my time. I uninstalled it, ended up reinstalling it a couple times, but after another 2 weeks I just uninstalled it for good and haven't gone back. It seems part of common culture now that social media is full of "brain rot", that it's ruining society, that it's bad for the self esteem of girls..... so why does everyone keep using it??

Facebook is better than ebay: Menant to make a thread, not a reply originally with this. I spent 50$ on this Gigabyte MZ32-AR0 motherboard to have it shipped from someone on Facebook marketplace, who had no idea what it was. He got it from a friend who owned a data center throwing it out. And he shipped it to me, in a used Amazon box with newspapers as padding, with a random server psu in it too, and a free floating heatsink. There was no cpu cover. It came with bent pins galore. I wrote it off as soon as I saw the damage. He offered a full refund. I declined, told him I knew it was a gamble. Spent all night working on it. Even bought a special magnify glass stand to go and try to fix some pins thinking i would need too. Some how, some way. I got it to fully boot. That's like $800 for $50. Starting to think 50% of the pins in a motherboard are redundant. Stressed for 10 hours, no wobble. I got another epyc motherboard 3 cpus, another heatsink with fan, this time perfectly packaged, all for 150 plus 50 for shipping. Guy said he couldn't get it to turn on. Motherboard was a supermicro h11ssw nt rev 2.0. Haven't fully fixed, but Guy gave me 75$ back because it turns out he told me some misinformation about it. He said it didn't post which is true. But he also never got it to turn on either. This is most likely a pressure thing. If I went to ebay, this would be hundreds of dollars. Probably total 1200 to 1400. I got it all for 175. If you can use the global search and find people who don't know what they have or how to fix it. You can get crazy better deals.

Specifically, the update is removing: Apply update from ADB Apply update from SD card Wipe cache partition View recovery logs Run graphics test Run locale test The only options remaining are “Reboot system now,” “Wipe data/factory reset,” and “Power off.”

WHY ARE WE ALL SO CALM: we are actually on the brink of total free-internet death & nobody gives a shit i feel like everybody thinks its not gonna happen because we've cried wolf many times before but i'm telling you one of these days in the near future you will turn on your device and you'll just see a message akin to >"in order to proceed, for identity verification purposes, please take a picture of your face and a government issued ID" and there will be no way of bypassing that shit and the realization will set in that your days of shitposting & browsing 4chan & jerking off to anime titties will be over forever. I mean just think about how close we already are: Porn is literally already fully locked down in the UK. Australia has fully banned social media for kids. Discord & twitter has been locked down. And now google, apple, and windows are working on OS level verification. There was a petition in the UK to stop this shit and it got massive support (500k+ supporters) but the government literally jsut said fuck you lol we're gonna keep going. In all seriousness why does nobody give a fuck? i feel like there were more outrage over that net neutrality thing a couple of years back which really wasn't all that serious in retrospect. This current situation however is.

Imagine if Android was the first OS that used Linux and people just called it Linux, praising just Linus Torvalds and never acknowledging the project that made the rest of the OS, even though the whole OS was created before Linux was even a thought in Torvald's head. Yes this is what happened to the GNU operating system. And not only that, they simultaneously stripped away any mention of user freedom and replaced everything with "open-source" and pushover licenses.
