Akuyaku Reijou wa Ringoku no Outaishi ni Dekiai sareru (悪役令嬢は隣国の王太子に溺愛される, The Villainess Is Adored by the Crown Prince of the Neighboring Kingdom) is a Japanese light novel series written by Puni-chan and illustrated by Akeno Naruse. It was originally posted as a web novel on the online publishing platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō beginning in March 2016. Enterbrain later began publishing it as a light novel under their B's Log Bunko imprint in October 2016, with 14 volumes released as of November 2023. A manga adaptation illustrated by Hoshina began serialization on Enterbrain's B's Log Comic service in December 2017 and has been compiled into 15 tankōbon volumes as of January 2025. A visual novel adaptation developed and published by Operahouse was released for Nintendo Switch and Steam in March 2024. An anime television series adaptation produced by Studio Deen is set to premiere in January 2026.

Synopsis[]

With her engagement annulled, Tiararose was supposed to have been exiled from the country.

"This is the otome game I played!" She realized on the day before the story's ending. Is waiting for my conviction the only thing I can do? But I did not do anything too cruel... Enterbrain later began publishing it as a light novel under their B's Log Bunko imprint on October 15, 2016, with 14 volumes released as of November 2023. Kadokawa released promotional videos on YouTube to promote the novels. A drama CD was released in December 2020 as part of the limited edition of the seventh volume.

The crown prince of the Kingdom of Lapis-Lazuli and Tiararose's fiancé. Although he was originally interested in her, he eventually becomes more interested in Akari instead. In the original game, this would culminate in a bad end for Tiararose. Although presenting himself as charismatic and chivalrous prince, Hartknights reveals himself to be a spoiled, resentful, selfish noble who abuses his power to get what he wants. When breaking the engagement, he cruelly tries to humiliate Tiararose for the crime of "harming" Akari; becoming more and more desperate with his accusations the more she countered them, to the point of banishing her without cause. In the midst of his triumph, he is stopped by Aquasteed and is reprimanded for breaking his engagement at a graduation party and condemning a lone woman who committed no real wrong in front of everyone as well as banishing her all because he couldn't get his way; deeming them all things unbefitting of a crown prince. Hartknights is disgraced by this and his future queen Akari is taken away from the party in the process.
After the incident Hartknights understands he was foolish for what he did to Tiararose and for trusting Akari a bit blindly, he begins to see the possibility that Akari lied about Tiararose. Hartknights realize he believed Akari without even questioning it and should have listened more to Tiararose, he and Tiararose have been friends since childhood and Tiararose did what is best for him. Hartknights knows ending his engagement to Tiararose cannot be undone, he apologizes to Tiararose for what happened at the graduation party, Hartknights admires her for always care for him even now.

A transfer student who was the original protagonist of Lapis Lazuli Ring. When Aquasteed came to Tiararose's rescue and propose to her, Akari begins acting out of character to protest this and trying to paint Tiararose as nothing more than a "horrible person" and tries to drag Aquasteed away from her. Akari is reprimanded by Tiararose who reminds her that Aquasteed is the crown prince of their neighboring kingdom and should not be harassed in such a fashion. Akari is then scolded by Aquasteed that she knew about this and still chose to disrespect him, the humiliated Akari is taken away from the party on Aquasteed's orders.
Akari is held in a room for her actions and gets visited by Hartknights, when Hartknights asks her if what Tiararose said was the truth, Akari makes an excuse about that but Hartknights see that Akari is not exactly honest. Akari is revealed to be like Tiararose, lived a previous life and reincarnated in to the world of Lapis Lazuli Ring, she wonders why the "villainess" is still involved even after the story is over. Akari tells Hartknights to tell her all about Aquasteed, as she wants to save Aquasteed from being "hurt" by Tiararose.
Akari uses the Holy Prayer to attract Aquasteed as it is wanted by nations, but to no avail. Akari visit Tiararose and they learn they both lived previous life and both loved Lapis Lazuli Ring, Akari was going to marry Hartknights but her favorite Aquasteed showed up and wants him instead, Akari knows about the sequel and the heroine in it is a duke's daughter in Marineforest named Icilla who originally is the one who ends up with Aquasteed. Akari tells Tiararose to break up with Aquasteed but she refuses, Akari is told that Aquasteed is a person with feelings and not an object to possess, Akari decides to injure Tiararose so the engagement is called off but she is stopped by Aquasteed. Akari lies that she forced to marry Hartknights and begs Aquasteed to take her with him, but the people around know she loves Hartknights, Aquasteed tells Akari he knows she possess the Holy Prayer but he can lead his kingdom to prosperity even without her power and the only one he wants is Tiararose, Akari is apprehended. Akari is spared from more serious punshiment thanks to Tiararose, Akari is content with marrying Hartknights as she loves him too, Akari sends a letter to Tiararose to tell her that she is going to do her best to be happy with Hartknights and that Tiararose find her happiness as well, but also tells Tiararose to not lose to Icilla.
Icilla Pearllant (イシラ・パールラント, Ishira Pāruranto) Voiced by: Marina Yamada [ja] (anime)
The daughter of a duke in the kingdom of Marinforest from a ducal family that oversees the oceans and the heroine of the sequel game where Aquasteed comes from, originally intended to become his lover. She holds a strong connection with the fairies of the sea and is skilled at raising fish, corals, and other elements from the sea. Due to her blessing from the fairies of the sea, she can use magic that makes breathing under water possible for her and others. She always tries to help Aquasteed with his work and enjoys whenever he comes to visit her home in the sea, both holding a strong bond with each other. Icilla is benevolent, caring for the life in the ocean and doing her best to protect it. She is friendly with Tiararose and supportive of her relationship with Aquasteed, happy that they have genuine love in their relationship and that it wasn't arranged. Aquasteed tries to keep Icilla happy, because if her mood is soured in any way then the fairies of the sea take it as an insult and cause the ocean to become dangerous.
Keith (キース, Kīsu) Voiced by: Junichi Suwabe (voice drama, drama CD, PV, anime)
The King of the forest fairies who develops an obsessive crush in Tiararose. He took notice of Tiararose when his fairies all flocked to her, something they hardly ever do with humans, and deems her soul unusual. His attraction to her is so strong that he even insists that she just call him by name and not title. He holds his kind in high regard, stating that - unlike humans - fairies are free, and views humans a difficult to understand; at the same time, he holds the fairies of the forest in higher regard than the fairies of the seas and deems the latter an annoyance. He now views Aquasteed as a rival for Tiararose's affection, believing himself more fit for her and offers to come to her whenever she feels emotional while also dropping in to sample her sweets whenever he wants.

OperaHouse has announced Akuyaku Reijou wa Ringoku no Outaishi ni Dekiai Sareru, an otome visual novel based on the light novel of the same name. It will launch as a digital-only title in spring 2024 in Japan. A visual novel adaptation developed by Operahouse was released for Nintendo Switch and Steam on March 21, 2024.

TV Anime[]

An anime adaptation was announced on July 4, 2025. It was later revealed to be a television series that will be produced by Studio Deen and directed by Takayuki Hamana, with series composition by Yoshimi Narita, characters designed by Majiro, and music composed by Satoshi Hono and Nakano Karin. It premiered on January 11, 2026, on Tokyo MX and other networks. The opening theme song is "Ai no Fanfare" (愛のファンファーレ; 'Love's Fanfare'), while the ending theme song is "Mahō no Oto" (魔法の音; 'The Magical Sound'), both performed by Ayahi Takagaki and Yu Shirota.
