Stupid question but if I want guns in my fic how accurate should I write them? Because I want it to be at least semi realistic but I don't want to turn it into a bore fest
it can be as realistic (or unrealistic) as you want it to be. it’s your creation. do what you’re most satisfied with

what does it mean for an author if you block their content on ao3? or tumblr?
i see everyone say uk block and move on if you see something you dont like which is well and good, but how does it affect the author like it does nothing i hope? i write messy explicit murder in most of my work, and i know there are ppl who wouldn't want to come across such content
also i keep seeing your views on the bot comments thing in ao3 and there's been a recent upsurge of them on my page and ive turned comments off. I know there's no way to prevent bots since they're everywhere, but is there anyone who's seen it fully stop for them after doing something specific?
if I understand your question correctly, nothing will happen to the person you block. they will just not be able to view your profile or interact with your works/your posts. but getting blocked will not affect the account of the person who is blocked. no matter how many people have them blocked.
the only way someone’s blog/account may be affected is if you report them.
for your question about bots, as of now, there’s nothing anyone can do (besides disabling comments entirely) that can fully stop bots from commenting on their works as far as I know.

So I’m not sure how to tag something that’s very VERY whumpy and figured you were the perfect person to ask. The fic I’m writing takes place after a characters death in war and their lover is coping not too well with it. There is going to be a reveal that the character was with child when they were killed, but I’m not sure how to tag that if I were to
- character death (although I don’t think it’s necessary if the fic takes place after the character has already been dead. but imo you absolutely can still tag it if the impact their death leaves behind is the main focus of your story)
- whump (the obvious one)
- grief/mourning
I’m not sure if when you mean “character was with child” you mean your character was pregnant when they were killed along with their unborn child or if you mean they were with a child, that’s already been born, when they were killed and the child’s fate was unknown. but if the child has already been born and later killed then you can tag it as “child death”, but if it’s an unborn child that was killed then personally I would not use the “child death” tag.

just made my first ao3 acc, what advice do you have for a first timer on there? im going to post my sdv fanfiction on there and im kinda excited abt it :3
my honest advice is to just have fun! also tagging your stuff and warnings (if there’re any) accordingly is very encouraged. but don’t worry too much about hits, kudos or comments. sure, they are great, but the most important part when posting a fic, for me, is that you created it, you put it out in the world. that’s your baby. so be proud of yourself and have fun.
and if a bot or a troll ever tries to make you feel bad, remember to not let their negativity get to you. remember that they are bot/troll and their goal is to make writers question themselves. report them and keep doing you. because at the end of the day you are a writer while all they can ever be is some troll with no life.

Hey! Love your blog! Thank you for the hard work you do every day.
I want to ask you a question. If I posted a complete work on ao3, then decided to change something like add sentences here and there or change some words, should I be warning my readers that I edited something?
if it doesn’t effect or change the overall plot then personally I wouldn’t be making any announcement. I mean you absolutely can if you want to. but yeah in my opinion, you don’t have to.
thank you for your kind words also. I really appreciate it!

YOU ONLY HAVE ONE BLORBO??? HOW
I actually have two. currently it's inho and gihun from squid game. but inho is my main one, meaning he's always the one I whump in my fics :)
but usually when I hyperfixate on something, that's the only thing I can think about. so I guess the "how" is because my brain doesn't really let me think about anything else besides them. so I usually have only one blorbo at a time. right now it's inho, and gihun comes with him as a package deal. I do love them both very dearly though
can u please invite me to ao3, do you have any ao3 invites

Hi, I wanted to get something off my chest but I'm not really sure if this is the right place to talk about it, so I apologize in advance. (TW for child abuse)
There's something that has been bothering me ever since I found a certain fic on AO3. For the record, I consider myself an anti-censorship person and I respect AO3 for allowing people to write about dark themes on their site, even if there are certain topics I'm personally uncomfortable with.
Not too long ago, I was browsing through some specific tags out of curiosity, and I ended up finding an explicit fic involving non-con with underage characters. At first, I didn't think too much about it. But things started to get weird when I realized that the abuser character had the same name as the author of the fic. I thought it was a bit strange, but not enough to be actually concerned. However, when I scrolled down to read the comments, the author was saying things like "I actually do these things to kids in real life" "I write from experience" to readers. Given the contents of the story, it started to worry me for real.
At the time I didn't report this person because I had never seen such a thing before, and I was wondering if it was some kind of roleplay thing, even if they didn't explicitly say anything about roleplaying. I'm curious, is that actually common? It's the first time I've seen something like that by myself, so I'm honestly still shocked... I feel like I should go back and report their account, but I'm not even sure if what they did is allowed or not, or if I'm exaggerating. Either way, I've been thinking about it again and I feel conflicted. I'm fine with people writing about these topics as long as it stays in fiction only, but if they keep saying that they've done these harmful things in real life, even if there's a chance it might be untrue, that doesn't seem right to me.
I cannot answer you if it is “actually common” because I have never consumed or searched for any fics that involve minor characters in a sexual manner before, and I’m not interested in doing that. but if I were you and I found this person, then I would be crept out and I would click away from their fic.
though I am unsure if reporting them to ao3 would do anything, I don’t know what the site’s policies on this are. I mean the issue isn’t them “writing dark fics” but them saying they do this to real kids in real life (whether or not they were just trolling). I know they won’t get in trouble with ao3 for writing dark fics. but I don’t know if their comments can get their profile shadowbanned or removed or anything. so maybe, if you do report them, ao3 will ask them to delete their comments, maybe ao3 will remove the whole fic(?), maybe ao3 will suspend the whole account, or maybe ao3 will do nothing. I honestly have no idea.

Have you seen a journalist LINK an AO3 fanfic in their article??
Vulture's new article had a direct fanfiction link.
Journalists have 0 integrity nowadays, recently the Pitt was in hot water for journalists bringing up fanfiction too. Not even wattpadd but straight up ao3. We definitely need to shame them out of it
I’ve never heard of this before. I’ve seen the Pitt, but I’m not in the fandom (so I’m more of a casual viewer of the show). like, while I understand mentioning fanfiction as a whole, and while I have no context for what the article is even about, inserting a direct link to a specific fic (especially if it’s without the author’s consent) is… yeah, weird.

is it bad that i'm a "do whatever you want forever" person except when it comes to furry stuff? i *cant* deal with it it makes me so fucking uncomfortable. but i don't like, bother people about it. i just block and move on.
not bothering people about it, blocking and moving on are “do whatever you want forever”. so from what you’re telling me, you’re already a “do whatever you want forever” person. I don’t see any issues here.
there are dozens of prompts and tropes that I fucking hate, but I use those block and mute buttons and I scroll past what I don’t want to see instead of harassing people over it. this is me letting them do whatever they want.
you don’t have to like everything. no one likes everything. what matters is whether or not we shame others over fiction.

This is kinda an odd question. But I’m pretty lost, so what the heck.
I wanted to write a fic (smut) about a nonbinary character. The canon is a fantasy so I have a good bit of freedom with stuff without feeling like I’m wildly bending canon. (I’m not one to do that, nothing against people who do.)
In the past I have given nb characters one set of equipment or the other. But I wanted to do something different this time. Both or maybe a secret third thing.
Idk. I any tips on doing this?
I’ve never written about a nonbinary character before so I’m afraid this may not be in my area of expertise. but if anyone has any ideas/suggestions for anon, please feel free to chime in!

does ao3 allow videos to be uploaded onto the site and does it protect them legally as well
ao3 allows video edits as far as I know…
but as for legal protection. listen, every work that is written text is to my understanding legally protected (fanfics and original works). you own the copyright to your written works, because they are your own words and you don’t monetize other people’s copyrighted materials. but when it comes videos? honestly I am not sure — because, assuming you’re talking about video edits of copyrighted materials, in my honest opinion I think it’s trickier and more of a grey area for you (general you) to use a scene from a tv show with a copyrighted song over it, for instance, and claim legal rights and protection to it simply because you post it on ao3.
like — and I must emphasize that this is me guessing and I could be wrong — the scenes still belong to that tv show, the song still belongs to the artist. so I am honestly unsure if ao3 can make that video legally yours, copyright-wise, if they can legally protect it from being potentially strike by copyright violation, simply because you edit it and post it on their platform.
I know some hyperrealistic fan art were hit with copyright violation because they were “too realistic” — but that is usually only the case where artists try to monetize their fan art, which is obviously not on ao3. so it has nothing to do with ao3 here. I’m only bringing it up because it might be relevant since we’re talking about copyright infringement here.
but again, about your question about videos, I am mostly just guessing based on what I think is the case. so I could totally be wrong. maybe someone with more insight than me could chime in?
allthingswhumpyandangstyAnonymous asked:People keep trying to get on me for how I'm forced to tag some of my writing because "We aren't penalized on Tumblr," as if Tumblr does not have banned tags and AI that can flag you if you use them. I lost a DC blog back when tumblr banned the tag cw (as in content warning) because I was posting too much about Legends of Tomorrow on the CW TV channel. AI flagged me and my blog got taken down, I couldn't get it back. Like, tagging properly and explicitly is playing Russian Roulette on this site. It's a luxury few can afford. Which is, I feel, also important in the discussion of trigger tagging posts. Because sometimes they will literally nuke you for posting about a pg 13 superhero TV showI can confirm from personal experience that this is unfortunately true for tumblr. the site does censor tags and unless you censor your tags first, using uncensored tags — like “cw rape”, “nsfw”, “kink” — can put your blog at risk of being shadowbanned or terminated. (this only applies to tags, not what’s written in the post itself, as far as I know.) I’ve talked about it in more detail here.#admin answers#fandom#fandoms#anti censorship1182

I'm a paralegal and rpf fanfic writer so maybe I could help explain how defamation works. :) Defamation requires that the person committing the act must be knowingly and negligibly making a false statement of fact and not an opinion. The majority of fanfiction falls under opinion because the work is speculative cause we do not personally know the celebrities we are writing about. So, rpf writers can't knowing make a false statement of fact. Also for public figures like celebrities and politicians they have a higher standard of what would qualify as defamation for them. They would have to prove that the writer made the work with actual malice too and that's usually far from the case with the majority of fanfics.thank you for the insight! <3#admin answers#writing#writer#writeblr#writers#fanfiction#fanfic#fandom#fandoms#ao3#archive of our own#writing community#rpf16180

allthingswhumpyandangstyAnonymous asked:Okay, I have a question if you don't mind me asking. It is my first time having an Ao3 account, meaning I have to learn about the mechanism of how to write a fic there, though, I'm sure it'll be easy. But anyways, as for my real question— something that I've been overthinking of... Is the fact that I'm afraid my fanfics will come off as cringe and un-canon, due to me liking to write oc insert fanfics of a fandom I like. (Clearly my hyperfixation is PJO)And there's a ship that I really like on that fandom (Solangelo), that I, yumeship my oc with because polyamorous is cool (I'm poly too:3)I don't wanna get hate on, especially since Solangelo is a popular ship on that fandom 😭It makes me hesitate or unsure if I should post the AU fanfic that I'm working on called "Fall In Autumn", it's a about Nico, Will (Solangelo, canon characters) and my oc Mona (he's a dude btw). Basically a mortal and soulmate au combined together, where it's actually a slow burn and one character tragically dies in the end. (I'm sorry chat)I've already planned everything— what's happening on the first part of a chapter (like example: character A is on their way home after a boring day), Plots, which chapter the foreshadowing will give hints and where they'll pop up/appear, who's POV will it be in each chapters, their backstory in the au so I'll understand their character better, something that happened in their childhood that stuck on them throughout their life if they'll overcome it or not, etc.I've started writing since 2023 (on wattpad), unfortunately, I stopped at around 2024 and only came back this year. So, my confidence on my writing skills go even lower than before. Do you have any advice for me? I'd certainly appreciate it[ Note: English is not my first language, pardon if there's any grammar mistakes. ]I know nothing about the fandom or characters you mention here (if I’m being honest, this is the first time I hear about the fandom’s and characters’ names). but my advice is always to write whatever you want. I can only speak for myself, but I write for me, not for strangers’ approval. I am my own primarily target audience. therefore I write whatever I want. it’s self-care. it’s my creation. my story. if I want to say fuck canon and write about the thing I want to write — even if it goes against what canon says, even if it goes against what the majority of the fandom think — I sure as hell will do that. #admin answers#writing#writer#writeblr#writers#fanfiction#fanfic#fandom#fandoms#ao3#archive of our own#writing community#blorbo#blorbos#fictional characters#comfort character656

allthingswhumpyandangstyAnonymous asked:Lmao whilst you CAN write a fanfiction taking place on ‘a mission in Gaza’ you absolutely shouldn’t 😭 Very much a ‘tumbling towers’ (that Harry Potter fan fiction about 9/11) situation. Sure, it’s not illegal but you’d have to be a pretty oblivious to do it which probably goes against the ‘I’m so edgy I can write whatever I want’ mentality…Not aimed at that commentator either their work wasn’t about Gaza but more so at the ‘mission in Gaza’ comment like let’s be serious for a second some things are just an objectively bizarre decision and not in the ‘I don’t care what others think of me, I go against the flow’ kind of way.while it’s not something I’m personally interested in reading or writing myself, my original response is to let people know that — since a political statement (anything that isn’t fanwork) goes against ao3’s terms of service and will most likely get taken down — if people really want to post something about the issues on ao3, where the work section is about said issues, they can safely do so, without the risk of their content getting removed, by presenting it as fanwork. I’m not talking about whether or not I personally find it in poor taste. I’m not talking about whether or not I personally find it inappropriate. I’m just stating that I believe people can safely do it this way, if they really want to and if they don’t want their content to get removed. though I have seen people encourage this “fanfic where the character is on a mission in gaza” concept to help raise awareness about the issues on ao3, without the work getting removed. I have also heard others say how this is in poor taste and inappropriate. so to each their own. #admin answers#writing#writer#writeblr#writers#fanfiction#fanfic#fandom#fandoms#writing community558
