I suggest adding an option which allows resizing a window without having its contents update while being resized, because this can cause lag in heavy programs like Blender, and would also reduce power consumptions on laptops on battery power.
With this option, a rectangle would appear to preview the size of the window after it is released.
On Windows, this can already be accomplished. There is a "Visual Effects" menu in the "Performance options":
It allows unchecking "Show window contents while dragging", which also prevents the window content from being updated while resizing. Instead, a rectangles shows the size of the window after releasing the cursor.
Perhaps MATE or Xfce have this, I haven't checked yet. But anyway, I suggest adding it to Cinnamon. The preview rectangle can be made green, like it already is with window splitting when dragging a window to the edge.
