    Project Description
Whiskey Creek is a tributary to the Touchet River in WRIA 32 and is home to ESA listed stocks of summer steelhead and bull trout. It is currently blocked to upstream passage by a concrete barrier at river mile 1. Currently, water temperatures do no exceed 70F at the barrier and flows are estimated to be 2 cfs. The purpose of this project is to modify the barrier to allow for upstream passage at all flows and for all age classes of salmonids, making more that 10 miles of useable spawning and rearing habitat accessable. In addition, woody debris will be placed in the channel over a distance of 0.4 miles to compliment instream rearing habitat, recruit spawning gravels and provide velocity refuge during high flow events. Riparian trees will also be planted in the 0.4 miles to maintain cool water temperatures and provide large woody debris recruitment for future years. Lastly, a surface-water pump, with a water right of 0.5 CFS will be screened.
The Confederated Tribe of the Umatilla Indian Reservation will provide $5,000 towards modifying the barrier to allow upstream passage. The CREP program will be used as a $5,000 cost share towards the project. The project is 0.4 miles long and 360 feet wide (17 acres), and will be enrolled in CREP for 15 years.
