October is halfway over and Halloween is just weeks away. For those still deciding on a costume, Google’s annual Frightgeist report has revealed the most popular looks of 2025 across the country.
Characters from "KPop Demon Hunters," a popular animated movie that came out on Netflix this summer, were popular nationwide along with Labubus and Chicken Jockey from the Minecraft movie. But in Reno, classic Halloween icons are making a comeback — with a modern twist.
Here's a look at which Halloween costumes are the most popular in Reno, Las Vegas and nationwide.
Which Halloween costume is the most popular in Reno?
Google’s Frightgeist uses search frequency to determine which costumes are trending by region. For this study, the Reno area includes northwestern Nevada and parts of north-central California.

In Las Vegas, "KPop Demon Hunters" reigns supreme. These were the top five costumes for Southern and Central Nevada (and parts of southwestern Utah):

What is the most popular Halloween costume?
The No. 1 overall most popular costume, according to Google Trends, was Rumi from "KPop Demon Hunters." Rumi is the main character of "KPop Demon Hunters," who goes through the character arc of accepting herself as a demon-human hybrid while fighting demons and being a kpop star.

The Netflix film has become the streaming service’s most-watched animated movie. As of Aug. 26, it became its most popular title overall — with more than 236 million views since its summer release.
What are Labubus?
Labubus are highly sought-after collectibles that are, debatably, cute. They have vinyl faces with sharp, toothy grins and colorful furry bodies. Labubus are made in China by the company POP MART and are based on an illustrated book series by author Kasing Lung, who was born in Hong Kong but moved to the Netherlands at age 7, according to NPR.
Part of Labubu’s popularity may be tied to celebrities such as Dua Lipa, Rihanna and Lisa from the K-pop group BLACKPINK, who have been spotted using them as fashion trinkets. Another explanation for the toy's success is the consumer appeal of blind boxes.
