About This Game

Rise of Nations

Rise of Nations is a real-time strategy game that spans all history.
Start with a single city in the Ancient Age; gather resources; build an infrastructure; research technologies; construct Wonders of the World such as the Pyramids and the Eiffel Tower; and expand your military might across the world, conquering hostile nations with bombers, battleships, and tanks—all over your lunch hour!

In Rise of Nations there are:
  • 18 Nations—each with special abilities and unique military units.
  • Over a hundred military units operating on the ground, sea, and air— from Hoplites to Frigates to Helicopters.
  • Over two dozen buildings with upgrades and technologies that will take your nation from a small City to an Information Age society.
  • 14 Wonders of the World—the Terra Cotta Army, the Taj Mahal, the Eiffel Tower. Each gives your nation special bonuses.
  • More than a dozen map types, ranging from the Amazon Rainforest to the Himalayas to the Nile Delta.
  • Conquer the World campaign—a linked series of dozens of scenarios.

The Extended Edition includes:

  • Rise of Nations
  • Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots

New in the Extended Edition:

  • Improved Visuals
    • Improved water
    • Improved textures
    • Full-screen anti-aliasing

23 years later.. as it came out originally in 2003.. and I'm still playing this game.. Thousands of hours of true enjoyment.. Brian Reynolds outdid himself.. From insane balance, satisfying progression, great animations (that hold up today), the music? really? so classic.. I can't say enough about it.. and with mods? creates new experiences.. I'm an avid gamer.. nearly 50 years in.. can't recommend it enough..

"Rise of Nations: Extended Edition" is arguably one of the most perfect blends of Real-Time Strategy (RTS) and Grand Strategy ever made. It masterfully captures the thrill of evolving a civilization from the Ancient Age all the way to the Information Age in a single match. With its unique "National Borders" mechanic and the seamless transition from bows and arrows to stealth bombers, it offers a level of depth and scale that few modern games can match. It’s a timeless classic that still feels fresh and incredibly addictive today.

This game is very simple to pick up and enjoy, I don't have a problem with it. It has amazing sounds/music for its time. I like the level of control the player has, it is balanced to enjoy straight through. It is a good time to come back to. I hope to eventually see this enhanced/updated. This was a great game, I recommend it for new RTS players. This game will help you understand other RTS's.

Still one of the best strategy games ever made. Blends RTS combat with long-term economic and territorial decisions better than most modern titles. Every match feels like managing an actual civilization, not just spamming units.

This game is one of the best RTS games I've played. AOE2 was my favorite for along time but I cant bring myself back to it after playing RON. I"ve put thousands of hours into this game (before it was on Steam). There really isn't anything wrong with this game. Its easy to play and works great even in Linux.

Not just a game but a flashback of memory lane.
Still start a match with at least 7 CPU's once every 2 or 3 months but end up nuking everything ;)
Reason to play this game is takes me back to my childhood when we had a big family all of us cousins used to play this.
Man i will be honest i can erase everything from all of my devices but Not RON.
Can't even if i want to.

At one time this was one the best RTSs. With the updates to the game it is almost unrecognizable.

In a scale between nothing and everything, I liked some parts of this game, to the extent that I do recommend it. No comment on what the degree of 'some' is.
