Every anime is homophobic. Japan has no respect for gay people.

I’m not a professional but it seems to me like in Japan they must everyone into the whole “Okama” thing (some sort of confused mishmash of homosexuality, cross dressing, and transsexual). At least in anime they seem to regard Okama the same way the United States used to regard clowns in the early days of the circus before the whole creepy clown fad emerged; With a measure of genuine affection but nothing resembling respect, as though they were good natured whimsical jokes here for our entertainment.

Which at least was true for clowns but is insulting as hell to gay people.

Also anime has probably misled me at least somewhat, it the idea that being homosexual would be low-key derided and not outright met with as much direct hatred feels very Japan to me....

I mean...I've heard Revolutionary Girl Utena had homosexuality in it.
Don't know how they treated it.

Clowns deserve more respect than gay people.

they have to go dress in stupid clothes and get mocked by children just to make end's meet.

what do gay people have to do that has anything to do with them being gay?

I mean that clowns really do dress up and act funny to entertain you.

I don’t think you have to do anything other than be attracted to people of the same gender but that’s not the stereotype I was taking about.

Hanagata isn't made fun of because he's gay, he's made fun of because he can't take a hint. Are you going to say Aho-girl is heterophobic?
