Unfortunately this is a nearly-impossible challenge for the Sahrawis. They have no more than 600-700K people overall and certainly no more than a few hundred thousand inside the territory they claim. These numbers alone make it relatively easy for Morocco to maintain administrative and military control.
Ironically the biggest supporter of the Sharan republic has also been god awful to there minorities.
Gadaffi used to support the rebels but he had zero problem trying do a cultural genocide on the berber people of Libya. Banning there language and forcing them to follow the Arab identity.
Algeria has bannded the amazigh symbol form its country and is brutally crushing the kabyle independence movement from its country.
It’s complicated. As a result of the 1991 ceasefire agreement, there is a no-man’s-land between the Moroccan border post and the Mauritanian one, which was occasionally patrolled by the Polisario for a long time. Morocco intervened militarily a couple years ago to secure the road between the border posts.
No, they don’t actually have it. There’s a crossing there to get to Mauritania so it’s pretty much impossible for the Polisario to get to the coastline
Its fascinating to me how happy redditors (especially Europeans) are to defend Morocco's blatant genocide and colonialism to extract the resources in this area. There really isn't justification for it but they love it
The actual border region along the berm is highly militarized. I wouldn't say that the Moroccan controlled section is dangerous for tourists as such, but it's a sensitive area. The atmosphere can get tense. Tight monitoring and plenty of intelligence officers around.
I understand that there's probably some teenage wikipedian who really wants there to be no Morocco-Mauritania border, but in practice Polisario don't control all that territory. You can argue about "ought" or "should", but in reality anyone who drives down the coast road through Western Sahara will see nothing but Moroccan flags and Moroccan officials until they reach the Mauritanian border post. No sign of Polisario; any hint of an independent Western Sahara has been erased.
It's stupid why don't these two people unite under one country? Same as Spain and Barcelona or UK etc ... When a European nation does it, it's called civilized people trying to unite, when it's Africans involved, they call it colonialism what the hell, Morocco face colonialism from 3 countries during the colonial era and Moroccans are not complaining about it
we want them to unite with us but algeria wont let it, thats because the sadr is backed up by algerian forces and since algeria relations arent well with morocco...
The map is outdated, the buffer zone was removed in the south to let the commercial road safer from Polisario terrorists. Even the eastern buffer got smaller. Most of Polisario terrorists are only active inside of Algerian borders, and those named towns are ghost towns.
so they basically annexed it this time but offically ?
theres still land the sadr controls
it's mostly desert, land mines and drones
There's nothing there, it's just sand and land mines. The Moroccans walled it off because they're not interested in cleaning it up.
No one lives there, no one controls it
It’s funny how maps everywhere just call this area “Western Sahara” which is not even the name of a country.
Because the UN doesnt recognize SADR.
What is the name of the country
Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic

I see the Moroccans have already come here to justify their illegal occupation, and ethnic cleaning.
For people who want to know more about Morocco’s colonialism, and the actors who support it watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-T2ha4a_AuE

Doesn’t morocco have a border crossing with mauritania in Guerguerat?

thanks
Why do they allow Polisario to have a coastline? Are they stupid?
They don’t this is bullshit

Where do you see that???
Is it dangerous in WS?

the moroccan occupied cities like Layyoune & dakhla are pretty great, rest of it is just desert & landmines
This is wrong. It's bollocks. It's not true.

There's a conflict about exactly that. Real life isn't so simple.
Why the fuck should the Sahrawi want to unite with foreign occupiers?
