I think the issue with people that work way too much is that it leaves little time to have schedules that allow for social connection on a regular basis which is the foundation of building friends.
I’m pretty active in the Naperville disc golf community and agree with all of the above. They also have bags at the course you can borrow and play with if you’re not sure you want to invest in discs
Disc golf tbh seems to be something I would hate. I don't feel like it's going to provide an adrenaline rush, like swinging at a little white ball and watching it soar nearly 300 yards through the air.
Same thing i thought. But considering it's free, better exercise, and 100% in nature, I ended up loving it. No tee times. Just a disc or two, a bottle of water, and 60-90 minutes
Plus you can play a 2nd round, leave after 5 holes, etc
Sometimes I'll play a course, dive to a 2nd course and play another round. Grab something to eat in an area i don't frequent to try a new place. If you drink, no one frowns on you enjoying a beer while playing
I hope you give it a chance
Keep in mind it's not a regular Frisbee. These are designed to go much further and have different flight patterns
Its a Frisbee, but not the kind you're used to. They're disc that are smaller, thinner, and heavier
They're designed to go a lot further and different discs can go different distances with different flight patterns. When you throw a really good shot, it's exhilarating and beautiful watching it break one way, glide, then break back towards the middle
As you get more experience, you can craft your shot to go around one tree and "S" curve to get around a 2nd tree.
The free exercise in the forest while being friendly competitive is what really hooked me. I had to be dragged out my first time, as did each of my friends. We all never stopped playing. "Dude, I don't want to" became "can you play after work on Wednesday"
Hey man, I totally get it mid-40s myself and between work, family, and everything else I never built a solid local crew after moving here. I’m into sports, the outdoors, gym time, good food and making the most of life when I can. I lean liberal, have a wide taste in music and comedy, and I’m up for a casual beer or coffee if the vibe’s right. Would definitely be great to chat and maybe meet up sometime.
I'm down. Bonus if you can reference Seinfeld on occasion. Do you golf? I'm looking for a new/another golf buddy. I'm totally not into politics, I could give a shit who promised what, said what, did what, and I don't have any bumper stickers or yard signs or flags to show people my political stance, because as a true Gen X er I don't give a shit. I do like to go to breweries and wineries though. Bonus if you could help me land a work from home job. I've never joined any Naperville dad's group because because. I'm down for whatever.
Yeah I hear you but I'm battling my own humanitarian disaster with family right now and I'm trying to get justice but just in a different way. There's a lot of inhumanities in the world and I can only do so much.
My family and I are in Oswego. My son is 16 and daughter is 11 and we work all the time and it would be great to meet new friends. We love being outdoors and walking. I too enjoy stand up comedians and a wide variety of music. Shoot me a message if you want to chat

Totally agree with all of that!
Start playing disc golf. Everyone is super laid back and friendly, and no one cares how much you may suck, everyone roots for each other
Knoch Knolls is right here in Naperville and a great course since they turned it into an 18 hole about a decade ago
You can buy a $10 disc at Play it Again Sports and get started. Buy a cheap putter as well
I had less than zero interest in playing and have been an avid player since 2008, and I'm still not that good
There's a lot of really good courses within a 30-45 minute drive as well

I'm same age and am down to make new friends. Moved here 2 years ago and love everything about it but just haven't found community.
Join a bowling league
There's a post on my profile for neighbors in Naperville. Feel free to check it out.
I second this!
I'm a few years younger than OP but have made several friends since meeting various people through the group.
Recently learned about this group that get together to hike forest preserves in the area
There’s a “Normal Naperville Dads” discord. Worth a look.
if you’re on discord you’re not normal
Disc Golf is that with a frisbee?

Upsetting to see you don’t care about politics when you definitely should care a little, especially with what’s happening humanitarian wise.
