It has been an introspective day. Still have a lot to think about, but hey, I got to doodle a lot of fun stuff. And I think I'm getting better at drawing on paper again (although I'm definitely still waiting for the new tablet before working on any major projects). ^_^

So, I'm on Discord yesterday, and we're talking about the Chinese Zodiacs. I bring up that I was born in the Year of the Rat. For whatever reason, this leads to me looking up what that actually means. And according to Google, "the Rat is the first Sign of the Chinese Zodiac. He is intelligent, popular, and loves attending parties and large social gatherings." And my first thought was, "I am not a very good rat." I'm obsessively knowledgeable about select niche topics and little else, have a more lowkey following of devoted followers (to whom I'm extremely grateful, of course), and I am very much a "stay home and far away from loud, overly populated situations" kind of gal. I jokingly add, "Ancient China was not prepared for the autistic rat girl."
Now, I have never thought myself a furry. Like, as of this writing, there's this current therian HRT phenomenon going on right now, where many artists are drawing their online personas taking the meds and becoming some kind of animal. And I loved this trend; it's fun, it sparks creativity, there's a clever allegorical likeness to real life HRT, and I just love seeing everyone happily join in. But despite my plans to hop on the bandwagon myself, the upcoming "Rain's Dragon HRT Adventure" strips were largely because I personally didn't feel like there was any animal or creature that defined me. Most artists are using themselves, but I decided to use one of my characters instead. (Actual dragonification is still happening, I swear.)
Cut to me, last night making this one throwaway gag. "Autistic rat girl." I have not stopped thinking about this descriptor. And I spent all night into this morning wanting to draw myself as such. Where the hell is this coming from, though? Am I just getting FOMO seeing all my friends gleefully turn themselves into animals? And even if so, why a rat? It's not even the animal I thought I'd pick if I happened to depict myself as one. (I always thought that if I was any animal, it'd be a deer/reindeer because I love quite a few characters who happen to be deer. And yes, I've thought about it!)
And yet, here I am. I don't know if this means I've officially learned something about myself after all, of if this is a one time thing brought on by a very specific set of circumstances. Is this me clicking on something that's been there in the back of my mind? Or did I just have a cute idea for a doodle now. I guess time will tell.
