Chrono Trigger is one of the best RPGs of all time. Understandably, that means fans are eager to get a new release for it, especially because it's been a while since that DS version came out (with a cool poster, no less). And while we're all still hoping to see a Chrono Trigger remake or remaster appear on a modern system, there's a new release from Square Enix that fans may want to get their hands on.

Chrono Trigger: Melodies Across Time is releasing in January 2026. It's available to preorder from the official Square Enix store right now. Comprised of 10 songs from the "CHRONO TRIGGER Orchestra Concert" in Tokyo, the CD album will cost you $32.99, plus shipping and taxes. It may not be the game people have asked for, but it's still a nice collectible item for fans.

Chrono Trigger Is Back... Sort Of

Chrono Trigger is great, so it's no surprise people (yours truly included) want to play it on a modern console and are hopeful for a remake or remaster. Co-creator Yuji Horii raised hopes during an interview back in May at the Nepal Comic-Con, but Square Enix denied a remake was in the works, stating Horii's comments were mistranslated.

Otherwise, news on Chrono Trigger has been few and far between. Melodies Across Time was announced last year, but other than this album, there's nothing official releasing.

Melodies Across Time Is On Sale Now

Chrono Trigger: Melodies Across Time is on sale digitally now, and you can still order from the Square Enix store if you'd like a physical copy. Here's a track listing for the album:

  1. Presentiment / Chrono Trigger
  2. Secret of the Forest / Wind Scene
  3. Courage and Pride / Frog's Theme
  4. Lab 16's Ruin / Robo's Theme
  5. The Day the World Revived / Lavos' Theme
  6. Brink of Time / Delightful Spekkio / Fanfare 3
  7. Primitive Mountain / Ayla's Theme
  8. Determination / Wings That Cross Time
  9. World Revolution / Last Battle
  10. To Far Away Times

That's a pretty excellent line-up of arrangements, and if you're already nostalgic for Chrono Trigger, this should hit you right in the feels. While it's not a video game, it's nice to see Square Enix hasn't forgotten one of its best games of all time.

This is probably wishful thinking, but I'm hoping this means Chrono Trigger is back on the radar. Considering how many fans want a remake or remaster, it's surprising nothing has been announced yet. Hopefully, we'll get something soon.
