  • British historian suggests Prince Harry may be at risk of losing royal titles due to potential reforms within the monarchy.

A British historian is now suggesting that Prince Harry could be at risk of losing his remaining royal titles, including his designation as Duke of Sussex.

Andrew Lownie, a biographer who has written extensively on the royal family, recently claimed that King Charles III may use the fallout from Ex-Prince Andrew’s arrest as an opportunity to push through long-discussed reforms.

According to Lownie, those reforms could include stripping titles from royals who are no longer active working members of the family.

The King is said to have previously negotiated with Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, over a potential arrangement that would have allowed them to maintain an official role while living in America.

In a recent interview with NewsNation, Lownie said he expects significant changes within the monarchy, describing what he sees as an initiative to “modernize” the institution.

“I think we are going to see some reforms being announced,” Lownie said. “More transparency about records and finances, and I think we may well see some moves to remove titles from anyone who isn’t in an active working role.”

Lownie suggested that the arrest of former Prince Andrew could create an ideal pretext for these changes.

“I think they’re going to deal with the Andrew and Harry problem at the same time,” he added.

King Charles III Rumored To Favor A ‘Slimmed Down’ Monarchy

While Lownie’s prediction suggests King Charles could use potential reforms to change his son’s status, the monarch has long been associated with plans to streamline the institution.

There certainly appeared to be some evidence of this early in his reign.

Shortly after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, dozens of staff members from his Clarence House residence were given redundancy notices as operations were consolidated into Buckingham Palace, according to the Guardian.

In its updated FAQs on the British monarchy, the Constitution Unit at University College of London also notes that Charles preferred reducing the number of working members of the royal family even before he ascended the throne.

If Lownie’s prediction proves accurate, Harry’s remaining ties to the royal family could be severed very soon.

Yet according to another commentator, life could have once taken a very different turn for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

In his forthcoming biography, “William and Catherine: The Monarchy’s New Era,” royal expert Russell Myers claims that King Charles considered offering Harry the role of governor-general of Canada.

Myers suggests the idea was floated before the couple ultimately chose to step back from royal duties and relocate to the United States in 2020.

The proposal is said not to have materialized because a Canadian citizen typically holds the position of governor-general.

The Estranged Royal Focused On Charity Work Amid Andrew Arrest

Amidst the recent drama inside the royal family, Prince Harry largely remained silent about the arrest of his uncle, Ex-Prince Andrew.

Instead, the California-based royal turned his attention to charitable work.

Just one day after Andrew was taken in for questioning, Harry appeared in a promotional video urging nominations for the 2026 WellChild Awards.

In the YouTube clip, the Duke of Sussex urged the public to recognize children living with complex medical needs, along with the families and professionals who support them.

Harry, who has served as patron of WellChild since 2007, praised the children for their resilience and kindness, describing them as a powerful example of strength.

As the royal family grapples with Andrew’s historic arrest, it has also emerged that Harry is said to resent ongoing comparisons between him and his disgraced uncle.

According to PEOPLE, the parallels have lingered for years but never sat well with the younger son of King Charles III.

“He was frustrated by the comparisons,” the magazine quoted a royal insider as saying. “It was never fair to lump them together. Harry served his country, did the job well, and never engaged in misconduct, yet lost security and housing while Andrew was protected for years.”

The former Duke of York was released after several hours in the custody of Thames Valley Police on February 19, and remains under investigation.

Andrew Reportedly ‘Furious’ When ‘Woken Up by Officers’ For Arrest—He Had a ‘Do You Know Who I Am?’ Tone
  • Former Prince Andrew has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, leading to his eviction from Royal Lodge and a raid on his home, with potential further legal consequences for him and possibly even his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.

A lot of people didn’t think we’d get where we are today, with the former Prince Andrew arrested. Even as he was stripped of his titles and evicted from his home at Royal Lodge, there was the expectation that he would just move to Sandringham and stay out of sight, out of mind. It has been centuries since a member of the royal family has been arrested, after all.

But Andrew’s actions have apparently caught up to him, and with his home and former home being raided as well, there’s a chance that even more stuff could come up against Andrew. Some reports indicate even his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, could end up in jail too.

How did Andrew react to all of this? According to Rob Shuter, not well. “He was woken up by officers. He genuinely couldn’t process that this was happening to him,” one source told the gossip journalist.

But then came anger. “He wasn’t upset. He was furious,” the insider said. “There was absolutely a ‘Do you know who I am?’ tone.”

“It was arrogance, not panic,” the source claimed. “He seemed more insulted than afraid.”

The arrest happened early in the morning of February 19, and reportedly, King Charles was not given a heads-up about it. The specific charges against him have not been announced, only that he was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Reports on the Epstein files show that Andrew was alleged to have shared confidential documents with Epstein in 2010. At the time, he was working as a trade envoy on behalf of the UK government.

Reportedly, Andrew forwarded reports of his visits to Singapore, Hong Kong, and Vietnam to Epstein, as well as confidential details of investment opportunities.

Following the arrest, King Charles released a statement that said, “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.”

He added, “In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all.”

Both King Charles and Queen Camilla continued with their planned public engagements after news of the arrest was announced. Reports also indicated Prince William and Kate Middleton were fully supportive of the King’s statement. Meanwhile, Prince Harry’s team said they would not be issuing a statement at this time.

Andrew’s two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, have yet to publicly comment on their father’s arrest. Meanwhile, Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, who also prominently features in the Epstein files and who had a personal relationship with the convicted sex offender, has not been seen in public in months.

  • Scobie stated that Harry wanted contact with William, but palace insiders deny the existence of any mediator or olive branch between the brothers.

Rumors that Prince Harry tried to contact Prince William through a go‑between are receiving a sharp response from inside the palace. Royal author Omid Scobie has claimed that Harry reached out to his brother in 2023 using an “intermediary,” a mutual friend, in the hope of opening the door to a conversation, later reiterating the claims while promoting his book “Endgame.” However, sources now tell a different story.

Prince Harry’s olive branch to Prince William is ‘simply not true,’ says source

Omid Scobie told Us Weekly that Prince Harry wanted some kind of contact with Prince William, possibly with a third person present, but nothing came of it. According to Scobie, “It didn’t happen,” and a “stone wall is still up” between the brothers. He had added, “Unless the attitudes change on both sides, we’re never going to find any way to resolution.”

However, William’s sources reportedly reject the idea that Harry ever sent a mediator to his elder brother, with one palace insider telling Rob Shuter, “There was no mediator. No secret olive branch. It’s simply not true.” Meanwhile, another source remarked, “Harry is not shy. If he can get Oprah on the phone, he can call his brother directly.”

At the same time, royal aides see a pattern with Scobie. A royal source told Shuter, “Omid knows exactly how to generate headlines,” adding, “And he’s about as shy as Harry — which is to say, not at all.” They noted, “When a book is coming from someone like him, stories start appearing.” The insider further anticipated, “Expect more dramatic retellings as the release date gets closer,” as Scobie and those close to Harry continue insisting that he tried to reach out and hit a wall.

William and Harry lost contact when the latter and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior working royals in 2020, moving to California soon after. Besides, Harry’s memoir “Spare” detailed clashes within the royal family. Now, reports say the brothers have not appeared together in public since August 2024.

Ex-Prince Andrew is facing exile or prison: Royal expert

(NewsNation) — No matter what happens next, Prince Andrew’s life in England as he knows it is effectively over. That’s the blunt assessment of royal biographer Andrew Lownie, and the two scenarios he lays out are both stunning in their own right: prison or permanent exile.

The Prison Scenario

If Andrew is charged and convicted of misconduct in public office, the consequences could be staggering. Under U.K. law, misconduct in public office carries a potential life sentence — and Lownie isn’t dismissing that possibility lightly.

“If it’s very serious, that is certainly a possibility,” Lownie told me. “Fifteen, 20 years in prison, I think this is all rather academic, but yes.”

Prince Andrew’s Jeffrey Epstein scandal: Timeline

What makes this scenario particularly grim is Andrew’s current state of health. At 66 and reportedly not well, a lengthy prison sentence could be far more than a punishment.

“He may not survive prison,” Lownie said. “If he’s sentenced to 20 years, that may be his final resting place.”

And don’t expect the royal family to offer him a soft landing afterward. Lownie is unequivocal: Even post-release, the crown would not want Andrew anywhere near royal private property. His days at Royal Lodge — already the subject of a protracted standoff with King Charles — would almost certainly be finished.

Andrew in the Exile Scenario

But what if Andrew avoids charges entirely? What if he’s investigated and ultimately let off?

The outcome, according to Lownie, wouldn’t look much better. Rather than allowing Andrew to quietly resume life on the royal estate, the family would almost certainly push him out of the country altogether, likely to the Middle East, far from the British press and far from palace gates.

Former Prince Andrew first British royal arrest in modern history

“I think they will encourage him to go abroad, away from press scrutiny, somewhere like the Middle East,” Lownie said. “I think that is pretty much a certainty.”

In other words: Investigated and cleared, Andrew would still find himself effectively banished. The renovations reportedly planned for his residence? Lownie was dry about it: “They can pull back on some of those renovations.”

Either way, England is done with Andrew

Whether Andrew ends up in a prison cell or a gilded exile in the Gulf, his chapter in England is closing.

“Either way,” as Lownie put it, “his time in England is either done — or about to be spent in a prison.”

Royal family scandals: From ex-Prince Andrew’s Epstein arrest to ‘Megxit’

For a prince who once enjoyed the full trappings of royal life, the fall could not be more complete. The only question left is which version of the ending plays out.

  • Prince William was reportedly baffled by Prince Harry's confession about dating Meghan Markle.

A member of the royal family reportedly gave a two-word response to the news of Prince Harry’s romance with then-girlfriend, and now-wife, Meghan Markle. It was none other than the Duke of Sussex’s older brother, Prince William. The Prince of Wales’ reaction to his younger brother telling him about dating the “Suits” actor was allegedly surprising. Since then, a lot has gone down in the royal family, including the Sussexes leaving their royal life in the UK behind in 2020.

Prince William was baffled by Prince Harry’s Meghan Markle romance confession

Prince William reportedly felt baffled after hearing his younger brother, Prince Harry’s, romantic confession about Meghan Markle. As reported by The Mirror, Russell Myers discussed this particular incident in his new biography. Titled “William and Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story,” the book allegedly provides details about the royal couple’s life, “behind closed doors.” The author, who is also the royal editor for the news outlet, claimed that the Prince of Wales had a two-word response to his brother’s romance confession. According to Russell Myers, per the news outlet, Prince William’s initial response was “F*** off!”

In the meantime, Prince Harry also reportedly talked about this very moment in his memoir, “Spare.” The Duke of Sussex allegedly gave an account of how both the Prince of Wales and his wife, Kate Middleton, reacted after hearing that he was dating Meghan Markle. Prince Harry reportedly penned in the memoir, “Their mouths fell open.” The Duke of Sussex continued, “They turned to each other.” After that, he explained, “Then Willy turned to me and said: ‘F–k off?'”

The Duke of Sussex further expressed, “I was baffled until Willy and Kate explained that they were regular — nay, religious — viewers of Suits.” He continued, “‘Great,’ I thought, laughing. I’ve been worrying about the wrong thing.” He then wrote, “All this time I’d thought Willy and Kate might not welcome Meg into the family.” “But now I had to worry about them hounding her for an autograph,” Prince Harry also added.

Pressure Grows to Remove Former Prince Andrew From the Line of Succession

Pressure is growing today to formally remove Andrew Mountbaten-Windsor from the line of succession, where he is currently eighth in line to the throne. The focus on this comes as Police continue search his former Windsor home Royal Lodge as part of their investigation into misconduct in public office.

A new poll by data analytics firm YouGov found today that 82% of British adults think Andrew should be removed from the line of succession. Of the 7,242 adults surveyed, just 6% thought he should not be removed and 12% said they don’t know.

The question is pertinent because it is the last remaining thing that links him to the monarchy. This position also means that he is technically still a Counsellor of State, who can stand in for the monarch. However, in practice, Buckingham Palace has said that only working members of the royal family will be called upon for this.

Legislation would be needed to remove Andrew from the line of succession. This cannot be bypassed (as it was with his titles when the King issued royal warrants and letters patents) because it requires the permission of the 14 countries outside of the UK where the King is also head of state. This is because it would also affect their line of succession.

Because in practice, Andrew’s position as eighth means he is very unlikely to inherit the throne, UK parliament has not considered this a priority. A No. 10 spokesman previously said on the issue, “There are no plans… The Government is committed to using parliamentary time to improve the lives of working people.”

However, today a UK politician said that Andrew must remove himself from the line of succession. Andrew Bowie, the shadow Scotland secretary, was quotes as telling GB News: “I think it would be the decent thing. Of course, if he’s found guilty of this, I think Parliament would be well within its rights to act to remove him from the line of succession. He added, "But, let’s remember, he’s not been found guilty of anything just yet – he has yet to be charged with anything.”

Historically, the line of succession discriminated against Catholics. This led to royals being removed if they were or married Catholics, such as Prince Michael of Kent when he married Baroness Marie-Christine von Reibnitz in 1978. His position was reinstated when the law was amended in 2013 to remove the discrimination.

Famously, King Edward VIII removed himself and any future children from the line of succession when he abdicated in 1936.
