(I think) there's been a recent trend with old youtube videos of emo mallrats loitering in their natural habitat being brought back into the vouge thanks to the youtube algorithm recommending them to people, example:

You can search for anything you'd like and filter it by year with the argument before:[year], for example, "xbox before:2006" will show only videos about xbox posted before the year 2006, such as this:
Group of epic gamer friends blow up the hueg xbawks

I wanna see what gems everyone can dig up, search around and share what you find, some of these can be pretty obscure and have few views.

What I've found so far worth curating:

Obviously refrain from leaving any comments so you don't dox yourself.

This seems to work for a lot of topics but some of the more popular ones don't seem to show older videos and instead just put whatever popular recent ones at the top of the search results.

Even with that in mind, I did manage to find this:

Used to be able to search something like before:2009 "thing" (with the quotes) and sort by Date Uploaded and YouTube would give you every video on their platform with that word in it starting from 2008-12-31, it was glorious. It looks like sorting by date is disabled for now, but it may come back if small content creators whines loud enough.

If you combine your query with something like --datebefore 20090101 in YT-DLP's playlist downloader (using your search URL as the playlist URL), you should be able to dig up some shit that actually matches the query, just expect it to take some time. You can add --max-views 500 while you're at it if you just want weird shit. Those rules only make YT-DLP filter out the results on its end instead of changing the search results themselves, so you should gradually increment the time in the actual search query by a month or so, like before:2008-11-15 etc. since YouTube likes to interrupt YT-DLP after a few hundred videos. Might have to use account cookies and/or add a js challenge solver to the command if you stick with the same IP address for a while.
