[Found] CoalFax on Fox News, June 2020.     (web.archive.org)

Miraculously, the Internet Archive lifted the exclusion on Catbox.moe! At least for now. And sure enough, it indeed has the Coalfax Fox news clip.

If there is anything you want preserved, **go and get it now!** We don't know how long the catbox archive will stay up this time.

If anyone in future reads this, please comment below if you want a copy of this video and it is not available on the Wayback Machine.

I was going to mirror it to pomf.lain.la, but uploading there is currently disabled sadly.

In terms of Voat archival, 2025 was a tragic year.     (LostMedia)

This year, the history of the original Voat.co was struck with three disasters.

We lost pic8.co in April, searchvoat.co in August, and the Catbox archives on the Wayback Machine in September - all in this year. Around the time Voat shut down, the Wayback Machine had saved some Catbox files linked from Voat, which became the only backup given that Catbox (better named Furrybox) has purged most files from the Voat days over time.

This is why I encourage everybody: if you see a funny or based meme, save it locally. You might turn out to be the only person keeping it alive in a few years' time.

AOU thought pic8.co would "preserve your images forever".     (archive.today)

> So now when you paste an image link into the link post field it will automatically upload it to pic8's multiple hosts and your image will be preserved forever!

(AOU, 2020, from the link above.)

And what happened earlier this year? **Epic fail.** Pic8 shut down with no warning, taking redirects to over a hundred thousand pictures with it. Memes, funny screenshots, all inaccessible. Its operator Picman stopped responding to inquiries and disappeared.

This is what [inevitably happens](https://karl-voit.at/2020/10/23/avoid-web-forums/) with no **decentralized backups**. And given that pic8 only stored URLs, not the actual files, it would not have been difficult to mirror it.

The idea behind Pic8 was a noble one: mirroring uploaded images to multiple image hosts so the image remains if one image host went down. Image hosts like imgtc - remember that one? From the 2017-2019 Voat days? Garbage.

Pic8 did not actually host uploaded images, it just redirected to the various image hosts, so the promise was that it would be able to operate indefinitely given the low costs. While Pic8 was mainly associated with poal.co, some Voat users used Pic8 back in 2020.

But this did not protect against the fact that pic8 itself can shut down. Cracks were already showing early. Pic8.co had frequent downtimes, so it was never reliable to begin with.

AOU also took down poal.co/s/pic8 and poal.co/s/picinfinity, the discussion forums used for pic8. Looks like he accepted the fate that pic8 will not come back and that relying on this garbage was a foolish idea.

Catbox isn't much better. They have purged most of the stuff from the Voat days. So don't overrely on it either. Also, the name catbox sounds quite furry. Save anything that matters locally.

I release this post into the public domain under CC0 1.0, excluding quotes. You can copy and paste it wherever you wish.

Full post:

> Pic8 is now fully integrated to Poal

>Since Pic8.co (a fantastic image proxy solution to keep your images online) has been around with poal for almost 2 years (in the side bar), we've decided with the benediction of its creator, @picman, to integrate it in the submit link page.
>So now when you paste an image link into the link post field it will automatically upload it to pic8's multiple hosts and your image will be preserved forever! However should you not want to use pic8.co then there is a checkbox to disable this function.
>There's also a new upload image button for images you want to upload from your devices. They will also be uploaded through pic8 service.
>Please note that pic8 protects your privacy by stripping off all metadata from the pics you will upload.
>Enjoy everyone!
>Sincerely
>Poal Team.
>PS: pic8 will remain in the sidebar for those who want to upload and grab a short link to post in text posts or comments.

Coalfax.me appeared on Fox News and it was posted to Voat in 2020. Has anyone saved the video? (odv4op.mp4)     (www.voat.xyz)

(crosspost from /v/videos)

This is a piece of lost media from the original Voat.

In 2020, someone posted this to the original Voat:

> [WE DID IT, WE GOT COALFAX.ME ON FOX NEWS!!!](https://archive.today/2020.06.05-182724/https://voat.co/v/whatever/3858138)

Over 300 upvotes and 1500 views.

The video clip was uploaded to CatBox, at files.catbox.moe/odv4op.mp4, but has sadly been deleted since, but given its popularity, there is a chance someone here has saved it.

If you have a file named *odv4op.mp4* stored somewhere, please consider uploading it to a catbox alternative such as: https://pomf.lain.la/

By the way, I have some videos from the Voat days. Just give me the file name of any lost media you are looking for, and if I have it, I will be happy to provide it!

Hi, it's Artemis from the SearchVoat forum.     (introductions)

I created the thread "Poal - worse than Reddit" ([archive](https://archive.today/2025.07.13-202935/https://searchvoat.co/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14472)), detailing how AOU turned Poal.co from a once somewhat decent Voat alternative into a closed circlejerk that accomplishes nothing.

I also wrote:

> Their garbage image mirror Pic8.co has gone up in smoke.

> It is only a matter of time until Poal.co meets the same fate.

Ironically, SearchVoat.co would shut down less than one month after that without warning.

Is any of you in contact with the owner of SearchVoat? I would suggest him to release a compressed text dump of all posts. Text compresses well, so it should be doable.

Quote from [Karl Voit](https://karl-voit.at/2020/10/23/avoid-web-forums/):

> Most people will realize and learn about having contributed lots and lots of high-value information only when platforms are down for good. […] It is just like you know that one building of the Library of Alexandria is going to burn down in a few years and people still bring many unique copies of high-quality books into its shelves, unaware of destroying knowledge this way.

Website suggestion: more descriptive titles.     (Voat)

On some pages such as "Create a new post" page, inbox, and user profiles, the page title is just the generic Upgoat - *"what's upgoat!"*. My suggestion would be to add more descriptive page titles to those. This would make it easier to find them in the tab list.
