Unlike the UEFI Forum that oversees x86 OEMs and mandates all x86 PCs implement UEFI and allow end users to run any code they want, including bootloaders for any OS they want, ARM allows complete "freedom" for corponigger ARM OEMs to release billions upon billions of completely locked down unserviceable unmaintainable planned obsolescence 5-year-lifespan-maximum ARM devices with zero user freedoms. When's the last time you saw a functioning ARM computer older than 5 years? How about 10 years? x86 computers from 1980 are still in use to this day, running trains, power plants, factories, even nuclear missile silos. UEFI has existed for two decades, BIOS for four decades, ARM has been around nearly that entire time and has outright refused to standardize or mandate a booting system that gives users even a shred of freedom. ARM have sat back for decades and enabled and encouraged ARM OEMs to completely and totally fuck ARM users with planned obsolescence in the name of profits. They have completely infested the mobile industry with their locked down shit ISA and now want to infest the desktop industry as well. ARM is a cancerous blight on computing whose primary function is to strip away and undermine the ideals and principles of personal computing freedoms and liberties by forcing normies to accept having zero freedoms. ARM is the single greatest threat to computing freedoms in the history of computers. Not surprisingly ARM was co-founded and funded by the most freedom-hating globohomonigger corporation in history: Apple.

Rant about IT and it's basically a forced profession we don't need: I think we will encounter new problems regarding computer service people you call when you have trouble at work. First off, the work computer itself is heavily modified, i had a problem with a program and couldn't kill it with taskmanger since the admin of the computers probably didn't allow us to have taskmanager. So that's out of the question. Secondly, if I turn the PC on and off my session still continues, so I can't even turn it OFF without CALLING THE FUCKING IT GUY FOR HELP SO HE CAN FULLY TURN IT OFF FOR ME. Even a fucking tech god like me that could work in IT can't solve the issues because the admin or whatever gives me no access to programs and I can't even kill or force programs to end and I can't even end my fucking session by myself. Zoomers need to fucking rise up and fix this IT shit cuz it's annoying have to call them when I could fix it myself but I don't have permission. Dude, i can't even take a screenshot on my PC.

So, for anyone using either of these distros, how do you actually handle your codecs? The recommendation for both seems to be stay the fuck away from third party repositories, Packman, rpmfusion, OBS, copr, whatever and rely on flatpaks for everything instead, due to security concerns and conflicting packages on updates. I never saw flatpaks as being incredibly secure myself, and sometimes I've seen them as more of a hassle with permissions and such. I see a lot of people recommending these distros over something like Arch which I'll be honest, always gets shit on for AUR like it's a free for all with no security and no testing whatsoever, but I've rarely had any big issues other than a small package not building properly until I edited a pkgbuild correctly and certainly this hardware accelerated codec issue isn't really all that present.

Is Firefox/Gecko/Mozilla even worth salvaging at this point or is Ladybird and Servo the future of non Chromium web browsers? Mozilla is like Wikimedia, they waste the donations instead of actually doing their jobs, and despite Quantum the Gecko engine is too full of unflexible non embeddable code to compete with modern Chromium. The list of Standards that is missing compared to Chromium is just too much. There's only two reasons to use Firefox right now, Windows 7 support (It's been 6 years) or You want to Pirate YouTube Premium. Tracker blocking is placebo when Google's CDNs do below browser level DPI. I don't see Mozilla making it to 2030, Most serious users still using Gecko are using forks instead of Raw Firefox, an Xlibre type project for Gecko might bypass Mozilla altogether.

Non-bloated graphics: What's your go-to way for making cross-platform non-bloated graphical applications? Is using raylib (which is ironically more of a game engine) actually the best way? Should there even a difference between applications and games at the level of libraries when they are in fact both examples of graphical software?

I've read most of Atomic Rockets, asked AI, paged through Wikipedia. there are many options but I'd like to know your thoughts, maybe what solutions you prefer, and why, and how feasible they are. also if any of you want to throw me a rod instead of a fish, I'd appreciate links to other blogs or websites which have clear-cut practical solutions and discuss the pros and cons of each at this moment, I like the idea of an O'Neil cylinder, but perhaps with more spartan fittings than is commonly pictured thanks in advance

You may NOT print arbitrary geometrical shapes: > New York’s 2026–2027 executive budget bill (S.9005 / A.10005) includes language that should alarm every maker, educator, and small manufacturer in the state. Buried in Part C is a provision requiring all 3D printers sold or delivered in New York to include “blocking technology”. This is defined as software or firmware that scans every print file through a “firearms blueprint detection algorithm” and refuses to print anything it flags as a potential firearm or firearm component. https://blog.adafruit.com/2026/02/03/new-york-wants-to-ctrlaltdelete-your-3d-printer/ I repeat: You may not print arbitrary shapes without authorization and observation.

I changed to Pixel (F3 key) Then I changed the color to black and hand drew a small circle in Affinity with the paint brush tool (B key) Then I selected the fill tool with G key, changed the color to black, and then tried to fill the inside of the circle, AND NOTHING HAPPENS. I can't figure out how to paint inside a circle, what a fucking piece of garbage. Also the selected color isn't the same for all the tools? Why the fuck do I need to select again the color when I change to the fill tool? What a fucking ass shit!!!!!! Even ms paint is better than this crap. At work, i have noticed two very different camps around AI use 1. people who use AI for everything and can't actually do their jobs without it 2. people who are aggressively anti AI, to the point of insulting and bullying people who use any AI assistance. These people are all TERRIBLE at their jobs, as in them not turning up is an improvement. People are genuinely uncomfortable with these people in the office at this point. "Wait, is that fucking chatGPT? what the FUCK are you using that for? nahh, i don't give a shit, don't fuckin use that shit, you're not even a real person anymore, you can't think for yourself! you might as well not even be here, just go home, let the computer do everything, fucking pathetic!" Snapdragon is by far the best thing to happen to laptops. Apple had this figured out a while ago, laptops are mobile devices and thus should have ARM processors, not desktop processors enshittified and crippled to work at a low power. Every problem laptops had was fixed by ARM processors, noise, heat, and battery. I am never going to buy a laptop that doesn't have an ARM processor and neither should you. Unfortunately, this only pushes linux further back because it refuses to work with ARM laptops.

Alternative to Discord Thread #3: previous thread: >>108104849 As far as I can tell, the best alternative to Discord is currently Element.io. >"Element (formerly Riot and Vector[6]) is a free and open-source software instant messaging client implementing the Matrix protocol.[7]" - Wikipedia The only hang up I have with Matrix is that I don't want to have my account based on matrix.org. I want to find a dedicated gaming server that runs Element/Matrix. So far, the closest thing I can find is the OpenSUSE gaming server, which is fine, but it's not ideal. A lot of these Matrix servers are bridged with Discord, so I think the transition will be relatively painless. What is having an account that's not hosted on matrix.org like? I haven't tried that yet. My only account is for communication, not gaming, and it's on matrix.org. How easy is it to join other servers if your account isn't hosted on matrix.org? I have joined home servers using a matrix.org account, but not the reverse. ~1000 users: https://matrixrooms.info/room/games:cyberia.club https://prometheus.systems/ https://matrixrooms.info/room/gaming:fyralabs.com https://matrixrooms.info/room/gaming:nixos.org https://matrixrooms.info/room/kirby-games:kirbygang.com https://matrixrooms.info/room/gaming:fedoraproject.org https://matrixrooms.info/room/community:ubuntu.com https://matrixrooms.info/room/public-space:archlinux.org https://matrixrooms.info/room/community:fsfe.org >3500 users: https://matrixrooms.info/room/gaming:opensuse.org https://matrixrooms.info/room/nim-gamedev:matrix.org >7500 users: https://matrixrooms.info/room/support_gaming-linuxgaming:opensuse.org >8500 users: https://matrixrooms.info/room/linuxgaming-offtopic:feneas.org

China's CXMT to produce more HBM in place of DRAM: https://wccftech.com/china-largest-memory-manufacturer-cxmt-plans-to-allocate-a-large-chunk-of-its-dram-production-to-hbm3 >One of the more interesting talks in recent times is how DRAM suppliers from China are 'somehow' going to save gamers from the ongoing memory shortages, but it appears that this might never be the case. In a new report by the Korean outlet MK, it is disclosed that CXMT is looking to benefit from the DRAM demand coming its way and plans to allocate 20% of its total production to HBM3, which is approximately 60,000 wafers.

Teamspeak 6: Just tested this as an alternative for Discord and have to say it's actually pretty good. Encrypted chats, voice and screen share with unlimited quality and bitrate and you can host your own server if you want. It's open source and partly compatible with Matrix (devs claim they are working on making it fully compatible). Why did nobody of you faggots mention this as a Discord alternative before? Fuck Element, Teamspeak will be my future Matrix client.

It's too late to hoard data.: Even if you buy several huge drives there's nothing much left to download compared to 15 years ago. I'm saying this as a person who's still seeding and sharing stuff since 2009. Torrent trackers, forums, personal websites with direct links are either shutting down or becoming ghost towns (yes even your beloved Rutracker because two biggest contributing countries are getting destroyed and depopulated), blogspots and file hosting services are totally dead, even p2p networks are dead (even soulseek is becoming a mere shadow of its former self not to mention scammers). People who used to rip music and films from CDs, DVDs, VHS, crack licenced programs, games, OSs, create repacks, keygens, upload and share their files 24/7 are getting old and tired or worse - facing legal issues, their hardware is starting to fail because it has been running 24/7 for decades. Nobody is passing the torch to younger generation and everyone's getting used to live without a desktop, use subscription based services and products even if they're heavily censored and limited. Newer hard are much less reliable than the ones that were produced 20 years ago no to mention that all storage devices and other hardware are getting ridiculously expensive and companies are eager to price their consumers out of hardware ownership. I'm not trying to discourage you, download everything while it's still possible, just bear in mind that most good stuff which was very easy to find some years ago is now lost without a trace, you're gonna have to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find anything.

February 2026, is there still a reason to over-hate Macs?: Strictly speaking PCs here Microslop has been destroying Windows for years Copilot is invasive dystopian software, Windows has the fucking audacity to show you ads Linux is still Linux, will always remain a geek niche PC hardware prices are a complete shitfest and at the mercy of one if not the biggest AI-slop speculators in the world, NVIDIA Windows Laptops, the biggest % install base of PC users, are still shit on battery and massively overpriced at a premium that's not reflected on their build quality and performance Gaming is worse than ever, the market is saturated by post-woke slop and garbage releases, only 3-4 good games per year at this point Most PC gaming is done through Steam, SteamOS is not Windows dependant, handheld market growing, eventually an important % of gamers will just rely on Steam Decks or Linux/Steam gaming boxes Truth is, by doing absolutely nothing after releasing a generational product 5 years ago, Apple now has the best PC hardware in the market, and hasn't even doubled prices "for market reasons" like all the other tech companies during the last year. You go into the store today and pay the same price you paid for the same relative product 5 years ago ($2000 for the base model current M Pro chip Macbook Pro). Mac Minis and Studios are even more insane, but I digress here. Can somebody here argue honestly with me if I'm totally wrong here? If you aren't addicted to gaming is there even a reason to stay with Windows machines nowadays?

If you want to update your track, make a new post. Include the song title in the post, and make it clear that your song is a submission for the album. You must include a screenshot of your DAW - this is to verify the track is not stolen or AI-generated. Optionally you may include cover art for your track, but please confirm that the image in your post is the cover art or it won't be included. You may also add a pseudonym to be included in the track metadata, but it must not be one you already use on music platforms. Songs that violate YouTube's policies won't be uploaded there, but they will still be added to the album. By default, tracks will be normalised to -14 LUFS (integrated loudness) in the release. You may specify a lower loudness for your song. Light-touch mastering is sometimes applied to improve the consistency between tracks. Use of AI is banned - This includes AI generated stems, samples, and effects. "AI" includes all neural network-based models and not hard-coded automation/procedural generation. You are allowed to ask an LLM about music-related questions, but asking it to give you musical ideas (eg. generating a chord progression) is prohibited.
