Welcome to /his/ - History & Humanities: This board is dedicated to the discussion of history and the other humanities such as philosophy, religion, law, classical artwork, archeology, anthropology, ancient languages, etc. Please use /lit/ for discussions of literature. Threads should be about specific topics, and the creation of "general" threads is discouraged. For the purpose of determining what is history, please do not start threads about events taking place less than 25 years ago. Historical discussions should be focused on past events, and not their contemporary consequences. Discussion of modern politics, current events, popular culture, or other non-historical topics should be posted elsewhere. General discussions about international culture should go on /int/. /his/ is not /pol/, and Global Rule #3 is in effect. Do not try to treat this board as /pol/ with dates. Blatant racism and trolling will not be tolerated, and a high level of discourse is expected. History can be examined from many different conflicting viewpoints; please treat other posters with respect and address the content of their post instead of attacking their character. When discussing history, please reference credible source material, and provide as much supporting information as possible in your posts.

After being expelled from the Whigs and ending up a president without a party, John Tyler met with Andrew Jackson at the Hermitage in early 1844. The 77 year old former president, still considered the titular head of the Democrat Party, begged Tyler not to run in this election. Tyler accepted if the Democrats ran someone who would carry out his plans for expansion in the West. Jackson agreed to this proposal. That candidate ended up being Jackson's neighbor, Tennessee governor and former Congressman James Polk. Domestic issues such as tariffs and centralized banking were shelved for the time being and the Democrat platform focused primarily on expansion of US territory to the Pacific. Northern Democrats, led by former president Van Buren, opposed Texas annexation as a Southern plot to add more slave states. Andrew Jackson meanwhile made public his support for taking Texas, which he had refused to do while president, and declared that it had to be done soon before Britain or France set their sights on the place. Henry Clay, now nearly 70, made one more go for president as the Whig candidate. Despite being a slaveowner, Clay firmly opposed Texas annexation but Whig leaders preferred to sidestep that issue for fear of alienating Southerners. As such, Clay's platform dodged the Texas question and focused instead on bread-and-butter economic issues.

Why do Spanish people claim they had "American" colonies, "American" silver, and that they helped Christianize "America"? The only thing they did as far as American history is concerned is to found a few settlements in the Southwest (Los Angeles, San Antonio, Santa Fe) and also help American Revolutionary forces fight against the British Empire, even though Galvez's contribution to the Revolutionary War was nowhere near as big as Lafayette's? Also, they had nothing to do with REAL American culture, like the 2nd Amendment, rap music, American-style cars (not pussy-ass Eurofag toycars), and American-style Christianity (as opposed to Mediterranean/Hispanic Popery). McDonald ain't a Hispanic surname, and neither are Morse, Edison, Westinghouse, Shannon, Nixon, Clinton, Bush, or Epstein.

Why the hell do Europeans pay the GROOM to marry their daughter, that is dowry, and not the opposite, bridewealth? Bridewealth has reason, the groom pays the parents several years of wages for compensation for raising the bride. Dowry sounds like cuckoldry. Proto-Indo-European sun: Hey, did you know that for the beloved "Aryans" of the past, the sun wasn't even a god? The sun, both as a noun and as a mythological element, varies greatly across all branches in the reconstruction of a single solar deity. And judging by the myths, it was feminine hahaha yes, Romans copied from the Greeks so they don't count and the Greeks have oriental influence kek All these gay solar memes, all for a feminine symbol, for them the sun was a woman. Gualtieri and the invasion of Falklands: Kind of reminds me of Saddams invasion of Kuwait. Why did he misjudge things so badly? The British had been in negotiations to try and transfer the islands to Argentina for YEARS. They were seen as an expensive relic. The biggest obstacle was the population of the Falklands seeing themselves as British and not wanting to suddenly be in a country run by foreigners who were also a military dictatorship (reasonable) Gualtieri makes the calculation that because Thatcher and previous British governments had been winding down naval and military investments and pulled back their regular patrols and such around the island this meant they… wouldn’t care if it was invaded? What? I just don’t understand this mindset. I know in his mind he thought Argentina could occupy the Falklands then negotiate their transfer from a position of strength, with Argentinean ownership seen as a Fait Accompli. But surely any leader would understand that countries getting their territory invaded do not tend to just sigh and peace out, they get angry. I also don’t understand why he thought the US would value their relationship with the argentinean Junta’s government over the UK’s government, yes the Cold War was on and America was concerned with preventing communism in South America, but they also had fucking nukes and bombers stationed in Britain courtesy of the British government, along with them being a key member of NATO. why on earth would they ever want to piss off the British public when they’re in such a vital strategic position?

more Indo-European substrates in languages of the Middle East?: 1/? The possibility of an Indo-European substrate in the Hurro-Urartian languages has already been discussed by other authors, such as Arnaud Fournet & Allan R. Bomhard, and another author is Armen Petrosyan, who, although somewhat controversial in certain statements, posits interesting things. focusing on comparative mythology, perhaps, just perhaps, we may be dealing with Indo-European gods within the pantheons of Eastern cultures, in this case, the Urartians This article in question: https://www.academia.edu/116989528/Biainili_the_earliest_people_in_the_east_of_Van_lake Apparently, the name of the Urartian god Shiyin was borrowed from Hittite, and the Urartian capital Tušpa was the center of worship for this god. Furthermore, the author compares the name Shiyin to that of the Armenian province of Siwnik, where there are supposedly traces of an ancient sun god cult. I wonder how many other Indo-European substrata exist in the East?

Conlang "Therizino": I have created an a posteriori artificial language called "Therizino." One theory is that these artificial languages could function as a kind of slang, and could potentially be used to resist the oppression of free speech. ■ Word Order - English-style SVO (Subject-Verb-Object) is used. ■ Sound Change Rules A. Consonant Change 1. t l / r / z (softening in the middle of the word) 2. th s 3. ph f 4. c/k h (except at the beginning of the word) 5. v f (except at the beginning of the word) 6. b z (in the middle of the word, between vowels) B. Vowel and Ending Changes 6. -tion / -sion -lion 7. -ty -irty / -ia 8. -ity -ilia / -iati 9. Diphthongization (mainly a and o) 10. Word endings tend to end with vowels. ■ Created Vocabulary [Abstract Concepts] nation nalion liberty lezirty freedom frelom justice jaselis peace pisa truth trusa power paura unity unilia culture kulira history hisori knowledge nolage society soliati [Nature/Materials] water valer fire fira earth erla sky skai star stara sun suna moon mona wind wina stone stona tree tria ■ Language Characteristics - An a posteriori language inspired by English, Latin, and Greek - Soft sounds with many vowels - Word endings tend to end with bright vowels - English-style grammar, easy to use - Sound change rules maintain a consistent vocabulary I probably won't be working on this language any further (lol) This artificial language is still incomplete. There are still issues to be addressed, such as verb conjugation (present, past, future) and plural nouns. I hope someone discovers this language and perfects it.

I read a bit about the so called party switch and discovered it's more complicated than most think. Both american parties had conservative and liberal factions historically. Democrat presidents like woodrow wilson favored open border immigration while democrat presidents like james polk supported imperialistic expansion(opposed by large parts of the country). Republican presidents like calvin coolidge wanted to ban all immigration, while other repulican presidents like ulysseus s grant wanted to give citizenship to Indians. The only issue both parties strongly disagreed on was slavery from 1850 onwards, and this was mostly a regional division. Only in the 1960s conservatives rushed to the GOP and liberals to the democrats cementing the ideological divide. Why was american party division not precise like the labour-tory dichotomy in the UK which has remained the same since party origins?

A Question for Catholics: First of all, I want to make it clear that this is not a spam thread like those lunatic Indians do every day with pre-prepared and recycled speeches from 2008. It's a genuine question from a guy who simply has a doubt. Catholicism greatly values human multiplication through marriage, and naturally this has spiritual importance in the lives of the faithful. But then I discovered that there is a consecration called "Ordo Virginum" where women take a vow to obviously not break their virginity and remain single..Also I found the codename "Wife of Christ" bizarre. I found it disrespectful. And then I thought: wouldn't that be counterintuitive? Especially when it's clear that the salvation of women comes from men and motherhood saves women? For example, if many, many women choose this, wouldn't it be a problem? Clearly it's different from living in a convent. I'm not talking about that. Thank you for reading.

Once this happened, the Elders of Zion realised the capitalist faction of jews were far more successful so they moved to the USA and fully backed Liberal Democracy as the primary means of taking over the world. Communism is a failure and Liberal Democracy is a tool to undermine the White race - which is the sole reason the USA was founded.

The 1879 Murder of Luman Smith: >It is 1874. Joseph B. Wood's daughter, Alma, a short, slight woman in her late twenties, marries Luman Smith, a farmer in Williston, Vermont. It is Alma's second marriage. To it, she brings Joseph, a child from her previous marriage who is named after his grandfather. Luman, 40, and Alma have two children together. Luman is devoted to the children. >Luman and Alma's relationship is not good, however, and they fight often. Alma leaves the home several times between 1874 and 1879. Tensions in the household are heightened by Alma's infidelity and prostitution, and by Luman's threats and occasional violence toward Alma. In 1879, Alma again leaves Luman, the farm, and the three children. >Luman soon realizes that he cannot run a farm and raise the three children by himself. The infant, in particular, requires constant attention. He goes to his estranged wife and begs her to return. She agrees, but only after he accepts three conditions. First, she is to be given her own room in the house where she can entertain guests without interruption from Luman. Second, her father is to move in with them. This arrangement helps her father and provides her with some degree of protection, if needed, as does the small revolver she has recently purchased. Finally, Luman signs most of his property over to her and agrees to allow her to use his horse when he is not using it. >After the deal is made and the property transferred, Alma nonetheless begins to plan to move west to Lincoln, Nebraska. Luman carries a good-sized dirk (a short, straight dagger) with him throughout the day. Fearing that Luman might use it against her, Alma steals the knife and hides it.

Psalm 1: The Way of the Righteous and the Wicked Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of YHWH, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for YHWH knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

Misconceptions about emperor Julian I should clear up.: >Julian’s ideas weren’t new or controversial among contemporary pagans as he was a Neoplatonist, which was already the standard view amongst educated pagans in the Roman Empire. He wasn’t some “distant academic” either as he was patron of public rituals and festivals which were still popular amongst pagans. >Despite popular misconception, Julian wasn’t trying to create a new “pagan church.” What he actually was trying to do was unify the already-existing pagan religions under a core Neoplatonic framework; the rituals, priesthoods, and whatnot would remain the same as they always had been, the only difference being that they all would come to see they were different shades of the truth rather than standing on their own. None of these are new ideas either as Platonists have always held this view towards the divine and Interpretatio graeca had already been a thing since the BC era. The only thing Julian actually did borrow from Christianity was charity and support for the poor since he argued that charity was the only reason why Christianity ever became widespread. >The only thing that was weird was Julian’s insistence on animal sacrifice which had already declined long before the rise of Christianity. He was reportedly upset by the fact that active pagan cults were no longer widely practicing it and was so obsessed with animal sacrifice that even other pagans sympathetic to him made fun of this and often joked that the empire would eventually run out of cattle. I should also clarify that although Julian did try to establish a unified hierarchy to supervise local city-cults, this isn’t the same thing as establishing a new “church” since all he really did was restore patronage to the imperial cult and tried uniting other priesthoods with it (which again, would all be theologically unified under a core Neoplatonic framework).

Personally, I think yes. Western goycattle are too enslaved by jewry to change their ways even in the face of evidence. Just look outside, or this every board, to see proof doesn't change people's minds. Being a Fatalist and a Darwinist myself, I say White Genocide, if not stopped, is justified. The only thing to have ever kept the White race back was ourselves. It all started with the adoption of Christcuckianity and now here we are. Only time will tell if the spell will be dispersed, or we will continue shunning racism during the worldwide continuation of the Haitian Revolution. I used to think Medchad vs Nordicuck was nothing more than a meme made by seething Latinos and Indians self-inserting themselves and seeing history too much in black-and-white, but I now kind of unironically agree with them. I used to think it's just Ancient Greco-Roman nostalgia comparing civilized Meds vs savage barbarians, but that is only part of the picture. Mediterraneans legitimately had a more prosperous and morally superior civilization for so long, and it still technically lingers to this day. Even during the dark ages caused by those raging barbarians who destroyed Rome, the Mediterranean was still the most prosperous civilization. Constantinople peaked briefly, Rome was still the capital of Christendom, and Iberia was liberated by the African Moors from the corrupt Gothic barbarian rulers to become the richest kingdom. Then the Italian Renaissance and Age of Exploration happened. And unlike the French, English, or Dutch colonizers who pillaged, raped, and killed the locals in such barbaric matters wherever they went, the Spanish and Portuguese liberated the locals from tyrants, spreading their culture and mixing with them. There is a reason why Spain, Portugal, and Italy gets a pass from anti-colonial discourses. Then there comes human rights. While the Germans, French, and Anglos killed women en masse under false suspicion of witchcraft, the Spanish and Portuguese allowed women to be writers, leaders, and fighters along with their male peers. The Spanish Inquisition had some of the fairest due process and fair treatment for its time whereas in England you'd have your hands chopped off for something like stealing, not to mention the Law of Burgos and the Valladoid debates. In the North we have ideologies like communism and racism that still plagues the world to this day.

With the US economy still in the doldrums from the lingering effects of the 1837 depression, the Whigs were highly motivated and energized in 1840. The Democrats reluctantly renominated Martin Van Buren for lack of another viable candidate. Trying to out-Jackson Andrew Jackson, the Whigs ran War of 1812 hero William Henry Harrison. The aging general, nearly 70, had gained fame for his victory over the Shawnee Indians at Tippecanoe in 1813 and he was part of the quartet of Whig presidential candidates in 1836. This election saw mass populism used in a way it had never been before, with Whig propaganda characterizing Harrison as a rough-hewn backwoodsman coming from his farm to go to Washington DC and clean out pompous Northeastern aristocrats like Van Buren. This was as misleading as it got. William Henry Harrison was far from a simple farmer; he was a scion of one of Virginia's First Families and born into privilege. He lived in a 20 room mansion in Ohio and not a farmhouse or log cabin. Martin Van Buren for comparison had grown in relative poverty, although over the years he'd made a comfortable living for himself from various well-compensated government posts. The Whig campaign slogan "Tippecanoe and Tyler, too" became iconic as was the falsified claim that Harrison was a "hard cider-drinking" farmer (he was said to prefer whiskey to cider). The Democrats tried in vain to discuss nuts-and-bolts issues like tariffs, internal improvements, and centralized banking but it was hopeless as all their arguments were drowned out in a chorus of hard cider and "Harrison is a backwoods warrior" chants. Harrison carried the day in a major electoral landslide (234 electoral votes against Van Buren's 60) and 52% of the popular vote. His landslide swept through all regions of the country while Van Buren's votes mostly only came from the South and West.

The game is over, as I am fond of saying: The jews won. They are in control of the Pikes Peak batholith and the multi-trillion-dollar granite tunnel system — a highly symbolic 40 miles west of Denver, Colorado in the Front Range. But they are in control of much more than the end-time survival apparatus. They control not only the military and government of the United States of America but through the power of major corporations and the corruptibility of businessmen and government officials, fiat currency manipulation by the WiΩards of Fiat Currency at the Federal Reserve System, a small army of propagandists and "hackers" (this is a technically incorrect use of the term) who are fighting to maintain control of the Frankenstein monster they created called the Internet (in a war I fear they are going to lose), and even the Republican form of government they created which inevitably—and I would argue by design—fosters centralized control and assures only a handful of "elected" officials must be compromised to control an entire country, they control the entire Western world.

People who hate KJV are Going to Hell: Hating the King James Bible is a sign you are going to hell because the KJV is the most accurate, most inspired by the Holy Spirit version of the Bible. If you hate the KJV it's a sign there is something very spiritually wrong with you. Loving the KJV means you take God's word literally. KJV is God's exact words. The other Bible versions are corrupted and not pure words of God.

Prussia fought in three World Wars. >It won the Seven Years' War, the first World War before the World War (defeated all other continental Great Powers) >It won the Eastern Front and liberated Eastern Europe, but were destabilized and only politically defeated, while being militarily intact (starvation, Communist agitation, failing allies lead to a coup by the Socialists) in the Great War >They suddenly reemerged and conquered almost all of Europe in the Second World War and had a decent (but not in their favor) chance at winning the war, while voluntarily playing at maximum difficulty (Ethnic Chauvinism disgruntling allies, Hitler not trusting them to give them independence) and then being completely and utterly defeated with a horrible tragic fate awaiting the Germans Prussia is the epitome of military excellence. Even when they were beaten in battles, they had a positive kill-to-death ratio. Even when they were pushed all the way back to Berlin. Frederick the Great was extremely unlucky to have Russia as an enemy, which makes no rational sense, but he still survived, despite Eastern Prussia being occupied and having his entire treasury raided once. The history of this state is so great, it easily compares to the Human excellence exhibited in Ancient Greece, Rome, European Colonization of the world and other periods.

Founding fathers of America paid Jizya to Muslims and respected Muhammad: George Washington paid Jizya to the Ottoman Islamic caliphate (Regency of Algiers) Algeria militarily defeated the US in the American-Algerian War from 1785–1795 and captured American ships and crew Algeria forced America to pay tribute (jizya) after President George Washington capitulated to the Regency of Algiers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American%E2%80%93Algerian_War https://twitter.com/hse1232/status/1558099362567397376 My son just reminded me that George Washington signed a jizya treaty with the Ottomans in 1784. It was the only time the US has: 1. signed a treaty written in another language 2. paid taxes to another country 3. calculated according to the Islamic calendar, not the Gregorian This was before the more famous Barbary wars fought by presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbary_Wars 1801-1805 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Barbary_War 1815 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Barbary_War

How can atheists exist?: I can understand those who don’t believe in the divinity of Christ. It requires quite literally, a leap of faith. But materialist atheism just looks laughable to me. How can the universe will itself into being from nothing? How can consciousness, which seems to go against the very basics of entropy, exist, never mind question itself and the universe it exists in and understand reason, exist? Simply, why is there nothing rather than something? Claiming the universe came from a preceding reality that collapsed inwards, or that it is some multiverse just kicks the can down the road? What created that? No matter how well the scientific method is refined and how much money is thrown at the research, I don’t think this fundamental question will ever be answered in a purely mechanistic self causing framework. To me it seems logically impossible, and to me the answer is simple. The universe came into being from something greater than it, outside the existence of it. Outside our framework. The buck has to stop somewhere. And that would be at an unmoved mover. A first principle. Pure act and being. Something eternally existent. Even leading cosmologists, philosophers and scientists don’t take it as serious. At the least, they have to concede some sort of deism.
