Expressing in gp is the format established for the game by the creator and publisher. If publishing canon D&D, you follow the format. Len Lakofka explained it thus: If buying a car, I expect the price to be quoted to me as "sixteen thousand dollars, not 160 hundred-dollar-bills.
@TheEdVerse Why are the prices in gold pieces when at this scale they should be in plat? It happens all over. Shop tables, spell tables. "Spell component: crystal valued at 5000 gold pieces" depending on the edition that's 5 to 50 platinum!

Also in the 5e world aren't platinum pieces actually kind of rare? And electrum even more so? 2e they were around a plenty, but it seems between 2 and 5 it seems things died down. (I stopped playing when 2e got the class & race handbooks, it ruined the game for me)

@Ed, hello! Sorry for the little offtopic. Please tell me, are you planning to continue your streams on the game in BG3? It's damn interesting to hear the opinion of the creator of the FR world about the game based on it. Really hope that you haven't changed your mind.
