On a second note. Is anyone actually switching or is this a nothing burger. Can I scan some celebrity's face like on YouTube. I have some gaming(regional/lobbies) and dev(just lol at open sores projects using discord) servers. They should have updated their sites to link to whatever else if people were actually switching. Are there mass migrations and links to servers on alternative software on big discord servers for those who use it? It'd be better if we just killed that shit entirely and went back to websites and forums, you can't even see what's going on in these servers as an outsider
>>
>>108157709 (OP)
The best alternative seem to be Element, Stoat, Flutter and Loqa. But the problem will always be that nobody uses them. TeamSpeak can go fuck itself.
>>
>>108161696
I am switching.
Most of my friend group has already jumped to Signal for primary, it's the more normie connections I keep that we're working with to find an alternative closer to Discord in terms of servers and group calls.
That said, Most people I know already cancelled their Nitro over this, and I have seen some delete servers as well.
>>
>>108161696
I don't think people will actually switch over this. I was talking with some friends about alternatives but when they realized that you can just use Discord in "teen mode" and all it means is you don't get access to NSFW channels which we didn't use anyway all the enthusiasm to find something else pretty much evaporated.

>>
>>108161965
I know there was a set of discord alternative threads going. Was any consensus reached on best free or self-hosted alternatives?
Suspect the one server I'm on (that I care about) will just go teen-only and the rest of the tech-support ones that I'm on will either do likewise or migrate to other platforms...

Presumably it's going to be automated to whatever degree, I would guess they already have whatever content filters already so they could likely repurpose those. They also announced that they're going to have some automated system to guess your age without asking you to provide proof, which implies that they're looking at what you're doing anyway.

>Discord will implement its age inference model, a new system that runs in the background to help determine whether an account belongs to an adult, without always requiring users to verify their age.

Most will probably not switch, as most never do. I only want to maintain an account for a couple specific servers that contain info for some old obscure games that self host servers and like 2-3 friends who i'm trying to convince to switch.

My bigger concern is the Palantir connection, which is really just the same aggressive data collection most big tech does to us anyway. I went and switch my email to some aliased and removed any other info I could. And then I switched the client to WebCord to help remove some of the tracking, if it even really helps.

I also hate the amount of people who switched from Reddit/Forums to Discord and then locked information behind it. There are entire communities that only exist there and deleted everything everywhere else.

teamspeak gives nothing back to the end user, its a proprietary application with a remote license that requires you to pay them a monthly subscription to go above 20 or 30 users even on the hardware you already own to selfhost it. its total shitware from (((germans))), and on-top of that it looks like dogshit.

I held off on moving to discord for years. We used WhatsApp for text chat / media sharing and Teamspeak for voice calls. But Discord is feature rich, accessible, free, and does everything. Teamspeak 5 was the final nail in the coffin. Teamspeak 6 looks even worse.

Paid bot. Discord sounds like ass unless you pay $30/month or more. I attempted to move to Discord with friends but it was so bad compared to what we were using we just went back, it's fine on large public tranny servers but creating your own is useless
>>

Your complete failure to name another service as feature rich and accessible as Discord speaks volumes. Opus at 96kbps is plenty for a free service for voice chat. Disagreeing with me makes you an antishill.

It's hiliarious how Discord is somehow a screen sharing mobile app first, Voice app second
>>
>>108164829
It being feature rich was a paradigm shift for what a VOIP app could be. Ventrillo and Teamspeak slept on their popularity and were completely and inarguably eviscerated by discord.
>>
the talk about "voice" features reminded me of the Clubhouse hype from a few years ago... whatever happened to it. did it ever get truly big?
i also just remembered how i once "gatecrashed" one of the small mumble channels (just joined, didn't speak) and the yank leader there of like 4 users talking with confusion about my handle (which i don't remember). this must have been like ~18 years ago.
and to think paltalk was popular in regions like the middle east before many youngings here were even born (and/or before most jeets got online)!
zoomer tards just don't realize how nothing is actually new lol. and none of the apps of today actually pioneered anything.

He's talking about the limited number of slots per server. Even the page you linked yourself says that free servers allow for 32 slots, in other words you can use it for free and have up to 32 people talking in the server at once, but if you want more than that you need to pay for a license.
