Reviews

“REANIMAL is another significant step forward for Tarsier, who, with their dirtiest creation to date, finds beauty in darkness and mark themselves as one of the great image makers of our time.”
9/10 – Gamereactor

“Stunning art direction and attention to detail. Masterful cinematography and scene composition. A compelling plot that's equal parts mysterious and terrifyingly tragic. Excellent set-pieces that make you want to venture ever further. Pitch-perfect pacing.”
9/10 – Gaming Bolt

“REANIMAL far exceeded my expectations, even outdoing the original Little Nightmares with its mature themes, twists on the formula, and genuinely tense and scary gameplay.”
10/10 – Try Hard Guides

Complicated feelings on this game. It was engaging and fun for 90% of the playthrough. We ran into one bug that was basically game breaking but we started a new save and it fixed it. But $40 for 4-5 hours of content isn't it in my opinion. On top of that, we have to pay another $25 for the season pass to get more content? Maybe they should have released all of that content with the $40 game.

i think the people saying that this game isn't worth the price because of how little content it gives are either really smart or my friend and i are just really dumb. we're 4hrs into our playthrough together and we're only halfway through chapter 5 of 9. we've taken time to actually explore and find secrets in the game bc we are massive fans of tarsier studios. maybe it's because of this time that we've taken so long. maybe it's because we've died more than a fair share of times figuring out boss fights or doing parkour. either way, this game offers a lot more than just 3hrs and it's most certainly not just a one and done situation. there are achievements and other secrets to find and collect in other playthroughs if you miss them. this game has replayability.

the environment is what i expect from tarsier studios: perfect. environmental storytelling is on point and the creatures we find are haunting af. i liked the couple rooms in this game that reminded of little nightmares I and II. i don't know if it was intentional or not, but it was nice. but coming back to the horror, it IS genuinely terrifying in some sections. there is a water section where you're left wondering when something will surface to try to attack you, there are plenty of chase scenes and jumpscares that leave you scrambling around for an escape (more often than not, my friend and i totally died bc we were too busy trying to run away than to actually find where we're going LMAO), and i feel like a range of fears are added to this game really well. there's your fear of heights, water, BIRDS, mannequins, spiders and MORE.

the characters are also adorable as always. i just wish that we could hold hands like LN2 :( anyway, please give this a try and don't try and rush through this game. appreciate it and have fun looking for the secrets!

Tarsier Studios for video game industry is like Robert Eggers for movie industry.

Really enjoyed it from start to finish.

Warning: it runs hot and hits the GPU hard. Wait for a patch, otherwise undervolt your GPU (and/or cap FPS).

This Is What Little Nightmares 3 Should've been

I cannot believe the difference in quality between this game and all the others. Everything here is leagues off the rest. The graphics are much more detailed, the atmosphere much darker and more immersive, the set pieces much more grand in scope and scale. Even the horror is much more effective here. They pulled no punches in disturbing visuals, and they didn't shy away from shining a light on very dark themes of suicide and war.

The gameplay is also vastly expanded on with much bigger variety in movement and controls for each section. Even the added combat, while still basic, does well to enhance the pacing of each section and chapter. It makes the experience far less reliant on puzzles, especially compared to the little nightmares games. There's many more additions to gameplay I won't mention here for spoilers, but they are very very good.

Unfortunately though, this game is very short. And as much as I wish it was longer, it’s short run time never left a mark on me because of how dense in content those short hours are. Yes, it’s only 3-4 hours, but those few hours are jam-packed with some of the best content this franchise has to offer.

What did leave a mark on me is the lack of polish in this game. I’ve encountered many bugs in my 4 hours of gameplay, few of which were severe enough to force a restart. The optimisation, while good most times, really fell short on some chapters/cutscenes. Lots of stuttering and FPS drops mixed with buggy visuals and controls really ruined some moments. These are far and few in between, but when they do happen, they really destroy the experience.

Despite the bugs and rough spots, this is still an incredibly ambitious and impressive game. With more polish, it easily could’ve been something truly special but even as it stands, it delivers a dark, dense, and unforgettable experience.

And that's why I highly recommend Reanimal.

Im not gonna go in to direct spoilers of any kind.

This game is a great Art piece.
The game starts of really strong with its first 2 chapters.
The first 2 chapters have, what is in my opinion, the best level design and stealth gameplay tarsier has ever made.

That being said, the gameplay of this game falls off HARD after the first hour and a half or so.
Whats even worse is that the game is only about 4 hours long(if you are taking your time to look for secrets, wich i advice as they are what make these games most times).
It also suffers from major pacing issues that will just make the whole experience confusing or just feel.. wrong?
I dont even know how to describe it.
There is just a sort of empty feeling i have for many things here, as they just kinda come out of nowhere.
The game will just throw hundreds of cool abstract and gross visuals at you and expect you to be awestruck by all of them.
This works a few times, but each time after me and my friend found ourself asking "okay but why tho".
All in all Little nightmares 2 is alot better than this game both in terms of story and gameplay.
40 Euro for this game is also too much.
It hurts me alot to say all this as i love Tarsier alot, but the game just really is not as good as i hoped.
Its a 6.8/10 that dips in to a 6/10 the longer you play.

Maybe i will change my mind once i unlock all the endings.
But im really not sure.
I hope tariser start doing something more different for their next game.

9.5/10 | Incredibly Twisted | Dark & Mysterious | Absolute Cinema.

This game was absolutely incredible. I loved every second of this and am already planning a replay to try and 100% this with a friend. ~ I co-streamed this from start to finish without any breaks and this took me around 5.5 hours to be precise. I looked around most corners & tried to find as many secrets as possible so you can definitely complete this in a shorter time frame (4-4.5 hours) I'd say but personally this was worth every £ to me especially considering we're also getting 3x DLC's in the future AND this game technically does have replay value (if you're a completionist!)

PHENOMENAL horrific designs & "bosses/main antagonists" as well as an excellent eerie world setting in every single aspect. Especially towards the ending...it really ramped up in every way possible.

I don't personally understand the negatives/complaints about it being "too short" OR the "price tag is too high" - The game has been advertised for a couple of years. It has DLC already set for the future & plenty of enjoyable moments within the 4-5 hours of gameplay already. Not to mention next to zero bugs/performance issues on a day 1 release game (which is rare these days for releases)

Not to mention the fact they offer a Friends Pass....its basically an option to gift a friend the game for free. Just pay 50/50 together and you've got 2x copies. I don't see how that could be a negative at all?!

I write reviews because I genuinely want to share my opinions & takes on a game that and this was one I'd absolutely recommend. If you can't afford it OR will enjoy the game and THEN whinge about the price....then wait for a sale and enjoy the millions of content creators providing free content for the time being.

Congratulations Tarsier Studios & THQ Nordic & Amplifier Studios for publishing. Outstanding game.

While short, this game's atmosphere, environment, story telling, and more absolutely BLEW ME AWAY. Tarsier you have outdone yourselves with Reanimal, and I can not wait to replay and discover what more the Reanimal world is hiding!

There are few games that make me as creeped out as this game. I have had quite a few bugs but that is to be expected from a newly released game. All in all I recommend this game.

Good game, very short but worth it for the money if you're playing co-op i guess.
