The Two Faces of a "Diversity Ambassador": Inclusive in Australia, Discriminatory in Japan
A multicultural advisor in Australia just spent 3 days mobilising 31,000 followers to attack me — because I'm a naturalised Japanese citizen who wants to marry my boyfriend.
Her name is Sachi Hirayama (). She lives in Darwin. She's a Japanese immigrant herself.
Her public roles:
  • Former NT Chief Minister's Office Multicultural Affairs Advisor
  • "Boundless Possible" Ambassador (NT Government diversity campaign)
  • Japanese language guide at the Darwin Military Museum (which houses a Holocaust memorial)
  • Chair of Malak Community Markets
  • Self-described "peace advocate" inspired by her family's history as Nagasaki atomic bomb survivors
  • Officially praised by name in the NT Parliament (Hansard, 26 Oct 2016) as a model community volunteer
  • Hosted a City of Darwin cooking workshop just 13 days ago (Jan 31) as part of the official Healthy Darwin program

Now here's what she says in Japanese, where she thinks the English-speaking world isn't watching:
"Instead of trying to contribute to the country you naturalized into, you are trying to force through your own "modest wishes" (same-sex marriage, changes to the family register system)... I believe Japan should make its naturalization system much more stringent. Australia is on the lenient side, yet even they require an oath of allegiance."
"Naturalisation can be exploited to subvert the nation from within. It is very dangerous."
"I live in Australia where same-sex marriage is legal, but for Japan, I will actively oppose it from now on."
"Don’t bring your country’s customs here; follow the law." (Using an extreme example of a polygamist refugee to silence a citizen's legal call for equality)

She also amplified these replies to her 31,000+ followers:
"If you try to change society immediately after naturalising, you are nothing but a full-fledged operative (foreign agent)."
"Foreigners will come... and gradually invade other countries to suit their own convenience."
"Abolishing the naturalisation system is an urgent issue."

15+ original posts. 11+ amplified hate replies. 300,000+ total views. 3 days of sustained targeting of a single person.
Here's what I actually did:
I posted one message to the PM asking why I can't marry the person I love. I followed the rules. I worked. I paid taxes. For that, a "diversity ambassador" decided I don't deserve to belong.

Ms Hirayama said I haven't contributed to the country I naturalised into. I'd like to return that statement to her. Her conduct is a direct betrayal of Australia's values of equality, diversity, and inclusion — values she was appointed to promote. Her hypocrisy is now on full display for the world to see. She is a disgrace to the Japanese community.
I've filed formal complaints with the Darwin Military Museum, the NT Office of Multicultural Affairs, the City of Darwin, the Australian Human Rights Commission, and the NT Anti-Discrimination Commission.
Due to space limitations, I am only making a portion of the screenshots public here. Full documentation — including archived original sources, certified English translations, and authenticated screen recordings — is available at the link below.
