It's a shame that the game has zionist creators like Ethan Klein and Hila Klein contributing to the meow voices.

Hila Klein was an IDF soldier and has praised Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant as a "good guy".

Ethan Klein said he provided the voice 3 years ago, so maybe Edmund wasn't aware of his zionism until the Israeli genocide of Palestinians increased after October 7th, 2023. Ethan has been harassing a female critic who brought up his involvement in her Mewgenics review. She's had to private her social media currently. I'm not going to link it as it could lead to more attention and harassment, but just know Ethan Klein is a massive misogynist who has harassed other women who criticise his zionism, and he's known for harassment campaigns of other people.

Dev is definitely in a tricky situation if they address it. Ethan Klein is the biggest crybully on the internet. You just know he's gonna cry antisemitism, sick his harasser community on them, and threaten to sue if he's removed.

To be real it's not like they're taking a massive paycheck back from this likely freely offered meow sample they gave 5-10 years ago or that this will increase their exposure in any way. I wouldn't even have known these people were in it without this topic.

Everyone is free to draw their own lines, but this doesn't cross mine. I would be happy to see them removed, but I don't know how likely that is.

Best case scenario would probably be to just remove them like Playtonic with jontron. If it's just sound files it probably wouldn't be too hard right? Or maybe it's minor enough to not bother doing.

Hopefully they get patched out because yikes. H3's zionist crashout over the course of 2025 has been mindblowing. I do get that it was in development for a long time, H3H3 existed in that period where Youtube comedy content creators were still quite beloved, but man their downfall was truly something to behold. Fuck them.

I really cannot imagine a free meow sample 10 years ago is going to really matter in the grand scheme, and cutting voices over politics (even if it's very clear cut politics in all of our opinions!) is definitely just going to draw backlash. It's a lose lose situation and I can't imagine even if you fundamentally disagreed with say, emiru being besties with asmongold that you'd actually sit there and decide that cutting her from the game wasn't going to be the equivalent of making your game a giant political conversation. I'd definitely debate if I wanted to do that even if I disagreed with her - that's basically just starting shit and I doubt the dev wants that to be a focal point of conversation whatsoever. If it wasn't expressly for a thread like this I don't think anyone would ever notice it nor are you platforming/paying/supporting their works by having them do a bunch of joke meows. I really don't think this affects my purchase whatsoever.

They aren't getting paid for this or anything and didn't collaborate beyond this minor thing. It is not like the cats are named after them or anything like that. Hopefully they get removed, but to me it doesn't really impact the game in anyway. But it is up to everyone to make their own decisions regarding this.

I'm there as well. I might refund this, but that is more because I don't really enjoy the humour.

If a game actually spreads a certain theme within it's content, then I will react. But I'm not really into doing background research into each and every contributor to a game before/after purchasing it.

It's crazy that this game has been in development for so long that its development timeline also basically overlaps with all of H3's many ups and downs throughout their internet career, from first becoming a big hit in the early 2010s to (imo) becoming chud-adjacent around 2015, before trying to move away from that by working with Sam Seder years later, before becoming full-blown reactionaries by running defense for Israel's genocide in Gaza.

Anyone expecting the voice lines to get removed is probably going to be disappointed, because I just don't see that happening.

It would instantly turn into another culture war thing that the worst people would use to make a ton of videos about, which is exactly the kind of controversy most developers try to avoid. So yeah, I wouldn't expect any changes because they were probably aware of this and decided to just go with it because at the end of the day it's just people saying "meow" and it's a fuckton of people from every side of the internet.

I'd imagine Edmund and Tyler disavowing themselves of the Klein's politics might be enough for some, and using the excuse they didn't know when they did the voices about their issues. And for some, they don't want to touch anything with the Kleins on them, which is completely fair.

They're not going to do that though. If people think Ed McMillan cares about controversies, I'm not sure how you could possibly think that when his most major claim to fame is a game starring a naked baby being subject to various forms of abuse and who continues to work with Nicalis despite open secrets about the leadership being all sorts of abusive I don't know what to tell you

Honestly it's kinda nuts that there was never a massive moral panic about Isaac. I was sure it was going to happen, but it never did.

They published Binding Of Isaac before any of that stuff came out didn't they?. Does he actually have a choice in the matter to continue working with them? In any case, he is looking for a publisher for the console versions, so I imagine if he was 100% happy with them they would be locked down.
