wait imagine the whole team actually does go to john all the time with random questions because he has a shocking amount of answers. "how do i fix the sink?" john knows. "what's that cookie i like?" john knows. "how many bones are in a human arm?" john knows. "how do i figure out which one i broke?" john knows and he'll help you.
BUT john also has a good sense of humor. and when he doesn't know something or doesn't feel like helping, he just says whatever the first thing that comes to mind is. "why do cats purr?" built-in massage setting. "why is the ocean so salty?" god overseasoned it. sometimes he's clearly being snarky like that. sometimes he's so deadpan convincing that they don't know if it's misinformation or not.
(also - he is the king of trivia nights. he doesn't mean to be. he has no idea where he picked up all this random knowledge.)
