This has been exhaustively discussed in other threads. The definitive answer is “it depends.” Search “poly”

A lot of uncertainty around the topic. Ive personally seen a lot of DQs since ive been on this sub, even outside the 2-year time frame they specify. https://www.reddit.com/r/ICE_ERO/s/avpSF4s7n8

I got disqualified early this week for a failed polygraph with Border Patrol in 2022. Been LEO for 7 years & the announcement stated that aslong as you hadnt failed one in 2 years you were eligable. Very upsetting.

“ After reviewof relevant information, issues were revealed which were serious enough to find you unsuitable for the above references position due to the following , Result from your Polygraph administered by US CBP in 2022 The issues we have idenfified indicate your character or conduct may have an adverse impact on the integrity of the service. Its very upsetting to be honest. Offends me that they question my integrity because of a failed poly from 2022. Been in law enforcement 7 years and not once have I been in trouble or investigated. I am 100% sure everyone in the local police department I work for would say I am a proactive person that puts in the work. But oh well next time.

Currently a BPPC with a failed poly from August 2024. I received a OJO last week. I feel like that they are picking and choosing candidates at this point. I’d say wait till they tell you no.

If I were you Chavez I would check with HR before accepting or leaving other agency. Usually comes up in a background so if they haven't done your background yet you could get boned.

Historical-Store-103 · 9/29/2025, 7:38:14 AM
Cry about it some more, have some respect.
[–]
Historical-Store-103 · 9/29/2025, 7:38:34 AM
Not true, plenty of here have started with a failed poly.
[–]
Historical-Store-103 · 9/29/2025, 7:39:30 AM
No reason to appeal, you'd lose no matter what. They reserve the right to disqualify you for any reason at all.

Independent_Train563 · 9/29/2025, 9:25:34 AM
Yeah man unfortunately it will come out in the background part of your process, I’d call or email them and ask for info on it. It sucks. I know several BPPC on the same boat and all have similar situations.

At first they didn’t mid the first 2 waves but I know bppcs and they all got failed polys within 2 years and got DQd , I was the second wave of hiring I had a failed poly in 2016 and asked my hr if this would affect and they said no it was reviewed already by security team and didn’t pose a red flag , it’s either a yes a no or a nopa I’m internal transfer from BP

Those of you who have failed polys - do you know what questions caused you to fail? I see so many people saying they have failed polys, and I'm curious as to what caused the failures. What kinds of questions are people not answering honestly?

BigDaddyVaile · 9/30/2025, 4:33:46 AM
I was failed, but not because of any questions asked during the poly. The examiner after 8 hours LITERALLY told me, “My problem with you is that you look like too good of a candidate. And I don’t believe in people who look too good. So you need to tell me something bad that you’ve done within the last 5 years or I’m going to fail you.” Since all I could think of was catching myself speeding a few times while driving, she advised me that she was failing me. Moral of the story? Examiners can be dicks and fail you for absolutely no reason other than they don’t like you. I complained to OPM or whoever governs that, and all they said was to wait two years and then re-apply. So when corruption happens, the people you’re supposed to tell to investigate don’t seem to give a shit. At least that was under Biden. Maybe things are different now.

I got my answer about my failed CBP poly over 2 years ago and got this response. im glad I waited before paying for medical. "According to our records, your application was denied based on a review of the information provided to Security. Accordingly, a determination of unsuitable has been made in accordance with PSD processing, and it is a final decision that is not subject to further appeal."

Wow. Really sorry, man. Do you think the examiner had a political agenda that conflicted with your's? I didn't realize a polygraph went 8 hours! They must go deep with the questioning.
[–]
BigDaddyVaile · 10/1/2025, 1:41:19 AM
I kept away from anything political. And it was the same 25-30 questions over and over again for 8 hours. I almost fell asleep once because I was so bored. She would ask a question and wait a whole minute before asking the next question.
[–]
RayneMaker1 · 10/1/2025, 2:03:30 AM
That's insane. I can't imagine why they would even schedule 8 hours for a poly, especially if they only ask 30 questions. Should be able to knock that out in 1-2 hours. Sounds like she was just trying to waste time...although there's probably a more scientific explanation related to it all.
