This can be the site for breaking news, if journalists choose to break news on it. It is as simple as that. And that is not utopian. It is precisely what has happened the last week or so. If you weren't on BlueSky, you were late to each development.

The patchwork worldwide legal framework resulting from the ungrounded moral panic over people under 18 using the internet has a lot of us making extremely unpleasant choices. The blame lies on the governments mandating them.
"A modern-day concentration camp ... People have been killed by the staff here." Irish citizen Seamus Culleton has been in ICE detention since September, despite having a valid work permit and his own business in the US.

While this absolutely sucks, we are going to see a lot more places implementing universal global age verification over this next year, because the number of states and countries legally requiring it has gotten to the point no one can keep up anymore.
Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month
Feeling very appreciative of my legal team today. Appreciate you, , , , , and everyone else who worked behind the scenes.
Being wildly antisemitic about an Arab Israeli is a pretty narrow needle to thread but you managed it, congrats

Quite extraordinary evidence tonight from AFP Commissioner Barrett who revealed that she left no Acting Commissioner in place during her December Vanuatu trip when the Bondi Beach terrorist attack occurred.

This is why I've quit legacy media and I doubt I'll be back. Muslims attacked by cops in the streets for PRAYING is the expected outcome of the racist reporting and discourse around the Gaza genocide. Every Palestinian silenced and every Zionist lie amplified helped pave the path we're on.
#BREAKING 🚨 Former Greens candidate Hannah Thomas says NSW premier Chris Minns "is responsible for every single injury" at the Sydney march against Isaac Herzog
Protesters were pepper-sprayed and punches thrown, with Thomas saying it "felt like war being waged on us by police"
The ‘abolish ICE’ door is cracked open and every one of us needs to push and keep pushing.
“Liam’s father, Adrian Conejo Arias, said the family was in hiding. He cited a bomb threat at his son’s former elementary school and ICE agents patrolling the Columbia Heights home they no longer live in.”

I've accepted that trying to get people to understand there is no House at all when a new House convenes is a fool's errand

They forgot the part where the 'incumbent GOP majority' have no role in seating the next house, and this type of 'plan' would result in vacant seats in more than just the House.

Lol that you think local law enforcement will say fuck off when their unions are pro-MAGA and already won't enforce court orders and law in ICE rulings.
Replied to
Correct. Also: which precincts in which municipalities of which states? What military units are you sending to each location? How many soldiers? What do they do when local law enforcement says "LOL fuck off" or the doors get locked to the vote counting rooms?

Ordering the military to seize ballots kind of seems like the sort of thing where seizing the ballots would not be the biggest issue.
I think about 's point about a good night's sleep being far and away the most effective programming technique a lot
I would bet that LLMs won't change this, but we'll see
I feel this on certain projects. It compresses all of the thinking I need to do upfront in planning and after in review where it would normally get spread out more. It feels like some projects are O(good nights sleep)
I'm not saying that Canada is perfect, I'm saying that the bar is pretty low right now.
Canadian diplomacy is pretty legendary, I'm pretty sure we can get the Chinese playing ice hockey the same as what happened with ping pong diplomacy ;)
It is perhaps a good time to check if your university, city, retirement account, etc hold CoreCivic stock, and if they do, make your feelings about that known
1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

it’s weird, to run this website and have a very distinct marker for how much people care about what’s happening in Minnesota
it feels especially not great to look at as eviction notices start to get served for families are still locked down hiding from ICE, who are still roving the streets
ICE needs a military-sized budget because it is at war with the United States.
ICE’s pending $30 billion budget exceeds the military spending of nearly every country, including Canada, Brazil, Mexico, and Iran.
ICE + CBP funding for 2026 would total $66 billion, higher than all but 7 militaries worldwide.
I'm sorry did you say Abolish ICE? We heard Reward ICE, our mistake
The @schumer.senate.gov & @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social plan not only does not abolish ICE but gives them $11 billion more on top of barely there and easily ignored "reforms".
Gentlemen, this is not what your party wants. 4 in 5 Democrats support abolishing ICE altogether.
What is wrong with you?

POLICE turned violent.
The only difference between the Sydney protest and the peaceful protests everywhere else? NSW cops.
A protest against Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s visit is under way at Sydney’s Town Hall. Police have capsicum-sprayed dozens of protesters and members of the media as clashes turn increasingly violent. Live updates: shorturl.at/Wq8BD

Isaac Herzog has blood all over his hands and everyone who shakes hands with him, poses for photos with him, serves him food or protects him has blood on their hands too. They think if we all have blood on our hands, it won't be such a big deal anymore.
Avoiding COVID isn't rocket science, and it doesn't require abstaining from doing every activity in public. Using layered protections appropriate to the risk level of each space is sufficient.
Vaccination. Air circulation. Masking. Nasal spray. Testing.
Deeply disturbed by the anger, insults & violence by NSW Police against peaceful protesters at Town Hall, Sydney tonight. Many clips shared on social media. Sadly, others not because police grabbed or shoved people violently from behind, then stepped back. #nswpol #HerzogNotWelcome #HervogVisit

I asked about how police treat First Nations (and Palestine) rallies as threats to control, not communities to protect. We saw the dangerous result of this in Boorloo.

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.
just as bullshit as BAGS :)
that ai.com ad literally made me laugh out loud. "AGI is coming. get your handle on our service now!" was ... so laughable. not even the slightest hint of an idea that there's some reason why you would want it, just bullshit FOMO

That's one of the reasons why the noise and targeting the hotels and stuff where the agents stay is so useful - if they're getting bad rest, they have less energy and their morale drops - morale is even worse if they realize their information is compromised and protestors coordinate on that.
Uninstalled claude-mem. It's too fucking buggy, hangs my tool calls with "fatal error on posttoolcall hook", has bugs with infinitely spawning new sub-agents, and at this point Claude Code itself has a memory feature that works.
Claude Code is basically amalgamating every useful 3p idea as 1p.
the only thing I will go out of my way to use Gemini for is Google Docs access (e.g. "find all incomplete sentence fragments that I forgot to finish in this manuscript") but that's only because we don't (yet) give Claude unfettered GDrive access at work.
and even then it's confused by suggest mode

this whole discourse is like "omg look at how weird Michael Jackson looked!!!" and people going "uh hey, that's not nice to people with vitiligo, focus on his crimes" and then people going "how dare you say everyone with vitiligo is a sex offender" and/or "how dare you defend Michael Jackson"?
key factor: augmentation, not replacement of human judgment.
Looking like the argument from assistive decision making is winning in the field with hundreds of thousands of real cases (assistive information adds something unique relative to just having another human review)

It's hard to overstate the degree to which the general public is being lied to about trans people
Alex Massie trumped up a fake campaign in the times to claim hundreds of rape convictions for women in the justice system were actually trans women despite the numbers covering several hundred more convictions than there are trans women in prison for any crime.
