New Hire Orientation
Question regarding paperwork and virtual orientation.
I was sent an email saying “You have successfully completed the prerequisites to enter on duty with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This letter confirms your selection and acceptance of the following position: Deportation Officer. The full performance level of your position is GS-12. You will be placed in a full time, career appointment or career-conditional appointment. Your appointment is effective October 5, 2025.”
“The Office of Human Capital will be conducting a Virtual New Employee Orientation (NEO) program on Monday, October 6, 2025.”
“Please note that this Official Job Offer is contingent upon the successful completion and adjudication of all employment requirements, including but not limited to background investigation, drug testing, medical clearance, and any other agency-mandated conditions. The Department of Homeland Security reserves the right to rescind this offer at any time prior to your Entry on Duty date if any issues arise during the employment process or if you fail to meet the established requirements.”
“Some of the requirements, including but not limited to background investigation, drug testing, medical clearance, and any other agency-mandated conditions, may not be scheduled and/or completed until after you enter on duty. These are all conditions of employment which you must complete within the established timelines. Failure to cooperate in completing any of these requirements or the failure to successfully complete any of these requirements could lead to your removal from federal employment”.
I was also sent a survey asking when I could start to which I selected November 3.
So my questions are:
I have been sent more documents to download and fill out. There are deadlines of October 2 which is this week. Having said that, it says “turn in the paperwork the first day of orientation”. How am I supposed to submit the documents if my start date is after they are due?
Has anyone spoken to an actual person or received an email? The number and email which were given for questioning, I have not heard back.
Am I expected to report to the duty location on October 5th or 6th? I want to put in my two weeks notice and leave my current job on good terms.
I am from TX. The paperwork sent to me has an Irving address. So am I supposed to go there for my virtual orientation? Am I supposed to go there October 5th?
They have the right to rescind the offer prior to my Entry on Duty date. So is my EOD, October 5th? Have they even completed my background check? I’ve already done my drug test. I still haven’t done a polygraph, physical or interview.
Failure to cooperate in completing any of these requirements or the failure to successfully complete any of these requirements could lead to your removal from federal employment - again, how am I supposed to complete the paperwork if it says “turn in the paperwork on your first day” but then the paperwork due date is October 2nd?
How close am I to being accepted? Part of the new forms were direct deposit and W-4 forms. Are they doing the background check Right now? Am I at the final stage or close to it?
Will they push my date to November 3rd like I asked in the survey? Will they at least consider that?
