Bro it’s gonna take some research on your own. Within ICE 1801 is ERO (enforcement/removal of any individual(s) in the country who shouldn’t be) generally speaking in the interior of the country. CBP handles the border and ports of entry. 1811 is HSI (investigations of larger scale trafficking, money laundering, transnational criminal activity, etc).

ERO is administrative immigration law. You won’t be charging anyone criminally. If you want to spearhead criminal investigations and have broader arrest authority become an 1811. You’ll need years of federal experience and a degree though.

Series 1801 = “General Inspection, Investigation, Enforcement.”
Primary mission: enforcing immigration law after non-citizens are already in the system (detention, hearings, removals).
Civil law focus (immigration), not primarily criminal.
Lots of coordination with detention centers, courts, and transport units.
1811 – Criminal Investigator / Special Agent (HSI, FBI, DEA, ATF, etc.)
Series 1811 = “Criminal Investigator.”
Mission: investigating criminal violations of federal law (fraud, narcotics, weapons, terrorism, child exploitation, financial crimes).
Strong emphasis on building criminal cases for prosecution in federal court.

ERO does a lot of criminal too just way more administrative. Most of the criminal charges are 8USC1326 Reentry after removal which is a Federal Felony. I averaged around 25-30 1326 cases year at a smaller office. Also DO’s can get TFO positions with other agencies and then you basically do whatever that agency mission is while the DO is expected to be the immigration expert. 1811 are focused on long term criminal investigation, but very few will do 25-30 criminal cases per year. ERO just does so many more admin arrests of criminal aliens.

Interesting, sounds like a perfect springboard for investigation experience to jump to an 1811 after some years.
