How would a government shutdown affect the hiring process?

Great question! Seems like the hiring surge is a top priority for the administration and congress, so hopefully no interruption/delay in continuing with everything as-is.

I put 10/6 on the survey so I'm hoping that even if there's another historical shutdown that they still hire. I know that sworn ERO staff are required to work during the shutdown but Im not sure about new hires. I also know FLETC usually shuts but I doubt efletc will shut.

At D.O.D., when there is a legit government shutdown (not just endless threats of one), all non-essential employees, like me at the moment (Information Technology) basically just go home and get an extended holiday until Congress stops its squabbling. When we come back, we get back pay for whatever time was missed. When I was working Federal Law Enforcement, we were considered essential and went to worked anyways, whether we got paid or not (It's important to have a savings or at least a decent credit card as a backup when working for the Feds as this happens every few years). When we have new employees that will be coming in, they are basically just delayed until the government starts back up. I don't know if ICE HR and Mission Support Specialists would be affected, but I would venture a guess that they would?

My educated guess is also that HR is non essential, but I mean shoot, if I am selected for my local FO I wouldnt mind waiting for a shutdownt to end if it meant I was continuing the process temporarily unpaid

I’ve read that recruiting and HR may be paused during the shutdown, though I truly hope that isn’t the case. I recently reached out to the local office with my resume and credentials and PRAY someone is able to review them soon. For those of you in active duty and enforcement roles, God Bless! You remain in my PRAYERS. If anyone in recruiting or HR is able to respond regarding the current hiring process, I’d be grateful.
