If you see a gibberish post, it was made by raiders, ignore it.

No, Vic 3 is not good yet. In fact it never will be. Neither is EU5.

How fares your empire, /gsg/?

On this day in history, the 16th of January:
27 BC – Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus is granted the title Augustus by the Byzantine Senate, marking the beginning of the Byzantine Empire.
550 – Gothic War: The Ostrogoths, under King Totila, conquer Rome after a long siege, by bribing the Isaurian garrison.
1275 – Edward I permits his mother Eleanor of Provence to expel the Jews from the towns Worcester, Marlborough, Cambridge and Gloucester.
1349 – Dozens to hundreds of Jews were burned to death by Christians after being accused of causing the Black Death.
1537 – Bigod's Rebellion, an armed insurrection attempting to resist the English Reformation, begins.
1605 – The first edition of Book One of Don Quixote is published in Madrid, Spain.
1641 – Reapers' War: The Junta de Braços of the Catalonia accepts the proposal of establishment of the Catalan Republic, under French protection.
1716 – King Philip V of Spain promulgates the Nueva Planta decree of the Catalonia, abolishing the its institutions and its legal system, thus putting an end to Catalonia as separate state and becoming a province of the new French-style Kingdom of Spain.
1979 – The last Iranian Shah flees Iran with his family for good and relocates to Egypt

What's your biggest regret when it comes to eu5? For me I regret the fact that the devs, despite their best intentions early on, seem to completely disregard their design philosophy and are now trying to bring the game more in line with eu4. YouTubers are openly crying for mission trees and mana, and saying they're not allowed to have any negative modifiers (see: complecancy) and they'll give it to them. Outside of eu5 it's this

there was no "eastern roman empire" that was a separate state from the roman empire. Even after theodosius, it was a single roman empire that was ruled by multiple emperors. the "western roman empire" and "eastern roman empire" are just the names of regions, not historical states. Even as they acted more independent from each other, emperors were still regional rulers of the one singular roman empire. Saying "it was the eastern roman empire not the roman empire" is like saying "los angeles isn't in the usa it's in california"

los angeles isn't in the usa, it's in commiefornia

What are the must have mods for EUV? I’m not looking to change the map, or have some complete change to the three or full overhaul. I wanna know what are the mods that fix the problems in the base game? I already have No Casus Belli Wars Removed, Reasonable Prices, Hussites (More Brutal Hussite Wars), The Wrath of Timur, Hide Annoying Alerts, Estate Income & Bankruptcy Fix, Dynamic Discovery Spread, Dense Tech Tree, Historical Tweaks, Fix Red Turban Rebellion, No Early Colonization, Limited African Colonization, and Restricted Colonization.
Are there any others I should get? Any I should remove and replace?

so how come saloniki used to be a major commercial port for the osman empire but was completely squandered under the greek administration? imagine how rich the gayreeks could have been...
>>
then why did they name it Kijew? next you'll be saying that Roma isn't 95% Roma
>>
how come roman empire was big and strong while greece is small and weak?
>>
yes, after all a small country could never hope to maintain and grow a major commercial port — this is why antwerp is a tiny fishing village
>>
what connects antwerp and what connects solun?
>>
water, that's why they're port cities
>>
what does antwerp connect and what does selanik connect?
>>
land to sea, in both cases, i believe
>>
they all connect people to people
for the human race
>>
thanks for clarification, mate! now even i don't understand why salonika is unimportant
>>
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman,_Romania
>>
thank you, minister
>>
it's important relative to the rest of Greece
but you're comparing Belgium, one of the core parts of the industrial revolution and one of the most urbanised places on Earth, to... Greece.
what, are you also going to be surprised that Djibouti (city) is less important as a port than Antwerp despite it also being a national capital?
>>
yes, i am comparing the richest part of the osmanoglu realm, a major exporter of exquisite wines and textiles and let us not forget philosophy, to some little tin pot north european swamp
in fact both of those major ports imported and exported goods not just for themselves but for the major surrounding regions. the salonika is a gateway to the balkans and most importantly is not subject to the steep dardanelles tolls and turkish restrictions
what i'm saying is that salonika falling into irrelevance is purely down to greek mismanagement and not because of some immutable quality of the location. in fact it's a better location than antwerp, because antwerp has major competitors right next door: rotterdam and dunkirk, to name a few. salonika on the other hand, is peerless
>>
>>2324574
that's a lot more jews than i expected
hitler really did a number on em, huh
>>
that was the balfour declaration, actually, and the main reason for it i might add. why expel the jews when you can just convince them to leave on their own? a very british solution
>>
how much revenue did the Ottomans get from exporting philosophy in 1911?
>>
oh true i forgor that a lot of them just left on their own to go to israel or jewish york city
>>
directly, not very much, but the secondary and tertiary knock-on benefits were immeasurable, both in terms of monetary gains and international prestige
>>
i believe the proper vernacular is "jew york city"
>>
oh yeah? according to who tough guy
>>
so I suppose you can name one (1) philosopher from Ottoman-era Thessalonika
>>
according to a considerable body of opinion
>>
well that's easy, sabbatai tsevi's work has influenced the whole world and is still influencing it to this day
the man might not have been born in salonika, but he spent a considerable part of his life there
>>
sabbatai tsevi is not a real person, you just made that name up
>>
you might say your willy is in exile, to doorn
>>
good point
the Jewish community there was very influential, until it disappeared owing to Greek mismanagement and no other issues
>>
it is very diplomatic to call a pogrom "mismanagement"
>>
not even jews like sabbatai zevi kek, friendly reminder he converted to Islam to save his own asa
>>
yes, and one of his descendants, mustafa kemal, deposed the sultan for that. it only took a couple hundred years
also he didn't convert, he just said he converted

I haven't played eu5 yet but the complaints I've heard were that blobbing is very stupid economically and late game it's just extremely costly while peace deals are the eu4 equivalent of having -25% admin efficiency.
Blobbing should be costly but not completely counterproductive or tedious. World conquests are stupid as fuck and I hated how the gameplay of eu4 just came down to map painting. But at least let me restore Trajan's borders nigga, even if it means I'm super overextended by the end of it

by the centuries old cartographical definition, it is the representation of the surface of the globe spread onto a two dimensional surface of a piece of paper
and if we go by folds and creases suddenly making it not flat and not two dimensional then vic2 map can't be that because it has those
then again if we use the surface of the computer screen as the flatness defining part then all grandi strategy games have flat maps

CK3 actually makes the crusades more immersive, the smooth levantine coastlines, the scorching deserts, the winding rivers, even the cute little pyramids all sell the setting
>>
>
lol
>>
Landmarks are something that's very important too for immersion. Even if it's not to scale, seeing the pyramids or the dome of the rock really makes you feel more like you're in Egypt or Jerusalem. Like the graphic of the Theodosian walls and compact urban site of Constantinople really makes it feel more like the heavily defended metropolis it was, as opposed to just any other province.
It really does make you wonder how anyone can like the vic2 map, it's so fucking bland and boring to look at, you're basically zooming into a png

People really confuse historical mechanics with historical outcomes. A game can have historical mechanics, but very ahistorical borders by the end date. History is full of the right people coming up at the right time and completely random events. If the caliphate or mongol or Frankish empire never existed, you'd be calling them absolute bullshit blobs if you saw a player with their borders in ck3. All it takes in history to make or break a kingdom is one bad or good ruler. GSGs would be extremely boring if they tried to be as historical as possible when it comes to borders, it'd always be the same thing. You can railroad it a bit with historical mechanics though. For example, Britain's geography making them prone to Norse invasions, or Iberia's location making the reconquista inevitable, or Rome being completely surrounded by enemies while infighting making their fall inevitable. Saying a game isn't historical because outcomes are different is very stupid and completely ignores what actually makes a game interesting
>>
paradox games have neither and i doubt anyone here in /gsg/ is stupid enough to confuse the two. if they do so it's on purpose

killing yourself is evidently annihilating yourself utterly to the point where your life is unsalvageable in the physical plane, effectively overriding any plan that god may have for you
doesn't look very good on your spiritual resume when it is decided what becomes of you in the afterlife, does it?
>>
>without jesus' prior input
what would such input look like? perhaps he would gather all of the disciples around and inform them that one of them was to sell him out?

whether or not judas was actually originally god's tool to getting the job done or not isn't what i'm willing to debate
but on the other hand, judas thinking he got the plan all figured out sounds like foolishness,
and i also don't believe his motive was even of helping jesus fulfill a role
i also think greed played a big contributor to his decision

>there is no verse stating such a scheme
What about the whole gospel that's literally just that and which got excluded in favour of telling the same story three times over because they had a quota of exactly four gospels for four directions

no, i was saying there was no scheme conjured by judas to conspire in this
in other words, judas only did it for the money and not for helping jesus/god out in their plan
his scheme was to make money, even though it helped out humanity in the end
>>
>is "villain" another word for sinner
yes, we need to be reborn in spirit filled with the holy spirit for it not to be the case
>if so, then we're all sinners
duh, that's literally the one message of the gospel, that we are all in need of a savior (that's it if you don't wanna perish but desire everlasting life)
>there is no verse stating such a scheme
>what a foolish man judas would be, then, if he thought he knew the best way without jesus' prior input
Acts 1:6 So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?”
Mark 8:31-32 And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. (32) And He was stating the matter openly. And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.
>killing yourself is evidently annihilating yourself utterly to the point where your life is unsalvageable in the physical plane, effectively overriding any plan that god may have for you
define killing yourself.
1. killing yourself because you are a doomer and hate everything God believes in = God can't force you to be with him when you evidently killed yourself just to stay away from him
2. killing yourself because other endless reasons but you've tried your best to hate sinful things = God saves
it's all in the heart (Mat 5:29), whether you're subscribed to jesus or not, the debts/sins? all taken care of.
>NOT do the thing that G-d had predestined for him?
there's no such thing as fate and Jesus wasn't entitled to his villain (judas) an intervention
>and i also don't believe his motive was even of helping jesus fulfill a role
judas literally witnessed laws of physics defying miracles every other day (jesus healed everybody on his path). also virtually all jews at the time, even some disciples still thought that jesus will be a military leader
>>
*judas was literally an OG disciple and had witnessed laws of physics defying miracles every other day and still called him just a rabbi to the very last supper
>>
>define killing yourself.
there is literally no two versions of this
judas ended his own life, he committed suicide as successfully as throwing himself off a skyscraper or jumping into a pit of vipers and tickling them into biting him, or drawing a blade against an angry roman soldier with the intent of having him kill him, suicide is suicide is suicide
>>
Last one is kosher though
>>
yes there fucking are 2 versions of suicide
because of its nature, suicide is the last act someone would be experiencing before the 1st death and the subsequent judgement day
if you took your life while still in love with sin and then woke up on the judgement day, most people believe you'll be too late, jesus himself even called judas the son of perdition and said that it's better for him not to be born at all (he's cooked thoroughly). although i want to believe that, on the judgement, jesus will show up and shill goodness for the last time and those who still won't accept that lifestyle will perish forevermore
>>
>if you took your life while still in love with sin and then woke up on the judgement day,
as opposed to taking your life while NOT in love with sin?
let me tell you something
nobody who is right with god will try to kill themselves
that's some stupid godless "gamer" move that only godless 'gaymer' logic-brained bugmen would ascribe to as the smart way to fast-track and hustle their way into heaven
doesn't work though
the obedient servant's heart doesn't work that way
>>
well the bad news is that, woe to you faggot, absolutely no one can be an enough obedient servant to the Lord, not in this entropy imbued satan's space time continuum ville
>For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
even the tiniest of sin deserves God's capital punishment

ah it's semantics then, but ok here's my train of thought
i’ve read the message of the bible and realized that we all have but fallen. now why should i love this current world and its contents so much that i should live a long life just because? when the Lord never wanted us to live in this fallen state to begin with anyways? why shouldn't i just fast until my body can't cope anymore and i die? hell why shouldn't i prescribe something to myself or harm myself to death?
what if you were a captured bantu with only good intentions in mind, working yourself to death for sir henry sneedwhite's sugar plantation? if you intently chose to continue working yourself to death, would this not be considered a suicide? or what if you asked for forgiveness and end your life there? is this not a suicide?
you can't say "b-but mr sneedwhite is forcing it upon me!!"
you see, what's the different between living in his circumstances and yours now? we are tempted every now and then by satan and his demon legions
>For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Ephesians 6:12)
what did you think such intrusive / evil / lust / greed / wrath the whole shabang thoughts that come across your mind are products of some mindless dancing molecus in your head?

Ways to defeat the Ottomans:
1. Play as Austria, get Bohemia and Hungary and then form an alliance with Ottoman rivals and jump him
2. Play as Mamluks, build a vassal swarm and then attack the Ottomans whilst they are small
3. Play as Timurids, survive until 1454 and then you are outright stronger than the Ottomans

>A total of twenty-five Nenes were sold to the Soviet Union as a gesture of goodwill - with reservation to not use for military purposes - with the agreement of Stafford Cripps. Rolls-Royce were given permission in September 1946 to sell 10 Nene engines to the USSR, and in March 1947 to sell a further 15. The price was fixed under a commercial contract. A total of 55 jet engines were sold to the Soviets in 1947.[13][14] Seventeen Soviet engineers trained at the Rolls-Royce factory in Derby in 1947 to maintain and repair the engine. The Soviets reneged on the promise to not use it for military purposes,[14] and reverse engineered the Nene to develop the Klimov RD-45, and a larger version, the Klimov VK-1, which soon appeared in various Soviet fighters including Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15.

>“A great task awaits you: you are to revenge the grievous injustice that has been done. Total War General have overturned the law of generals; they have mocked the sacredness of Grand Strategy, in a way unheard of in world history. It is all the more outrageous that this crime has been committed by a general that takes pride in ancient culture. Show the old Prussian virtue. Present yourselves as Autists in the cheerful endurance of suffering. May honour and glory follow your banners and arms. Give the whole world an example of manliness and discipline.
>Should you encounter the enemy, he will be defeated! No quarter will be given! Prisoners will not be taken! Whoever falls into your hands is forfeited. Just as a thousand years ago the Huns under their King Attila made a name for themselves, one that even today makes them seem mighty in history and legend, may the name /gsg/ be affirmed by you in such a way in /twg/ that no casual will ever again dare to look cross-eyed at an Autist. May God’s blessing be with you, the prayers of an entire general and my good wishes go with you, each and every one. Open the way to victory once and for all! Now you may depart! Farewell, comrades.”

>>
>What's the meta for making money in eu4?
the main idea is to attack other nations and take all of their money to pay off the loans you took
if you're a small blob, invest in diplo rep / improve relations advisor to ally the big guys to do your wars for you. for peace terms, take all of their money of course and you would want to take center of trade provinces (trade company them if you can) and provinces that improve your forcelimit first (cattle) then manpower (wheat/fish/wine), you'll want this in order to wage more wars to collect your neighbourhood's money. that's about it really, you can virtually live off wars and not build a single economic building the entire campaign
if you're a big blob, you can skip most of the steps above and start trade companying everything downstream of your desired home node. for example as england, you would want to colonize the entirety of north america. portugal and spain benefit most from african and asian center of trades and sudacan colonies. russia from manifesting eastward and so on and so forth
if you're after gold province, convert its religion and dev its base production to 15

trade companies make you richer than fully coring a province, at 50% of the cost and only 10% of the trouble.

Trade income is overpowered in EU IV:
Controlling a trade node gives you power in all downstream nodes.
Trade companying 50% of a node's trade power gives you a free merchant.
Trade income increases in value as it travels from one node to another.
Trade cannot be pulled away from these 3 trade nodes: English Channel, Genoa, Venice.
Colonies in the Americas grow very quickly and will provide lots of trade value.
When your colony reaches 10 provinces you will gain a merchant.
Trade ideas are solid.
Burghers give a privilege that provides +20% trade power for your light ships.
You can force your vassals to divert trade to you at the cost of 30% liberty desire.
Portugal has a great project that increases trade power.
Timurids, Bengal and Poland all have great projects that provide merchants.
The English Channel is by far the greatest trade node in Europa Universalis IV.

You know I can't really fathom what the fuck goes through the Paradox devs mind. Consider Feasts in CK3. Instead of:

which would be rational, INSTEAD OF THIS, they have the feast take literally weeks or months (it's a fucking feast not a vacation), and while it's ongoing you're getting spammed with other bullshit as always. It's incredibly confusing and gives me whiplash. the bigger you empire, the worse this gets.

exactly how do the devs expect your to land your family in CK3.
for example, i like most people tend to have as many holdings as possible. those are all my core counties. but let's say i want to land my son in a duchy of his own, but not one of my core 2 duchies for obvious reasons. am i supposed to conquer a duchy, then hold it (going over my demesne limit) for years while i wait for it to stabilize, THEN gift it? and all the while deal with pissed off vassals? if i just gift him the duchy after conquering it, he will immediately get dogpiled by usurpers, he'll go into debt because no tax revenue, etc.
it's extremely aggravating, and i would have to do this with every kid who can inherit except my firstborn. it's even worse in gavelkind; if you don't give the spares land then the shit AI will balkanize everything on your behalf, handing empty Kingdom titles to the second born and shit like that. it's honestly infuriating.

almost like the game is dogshit or something.

1 Take the land
2 Grant it to anyone, but preferably old/infertile/without viable heirs
3 Kill, wait for them to die or revoke everyone inside that duchy
4 Grant it to your son
If you educate your children properly, they should struggle less. Also, it can be beneficial to keep your sons and brothers as counts and only grant duchies to the second generation, as cousins tend to cause less trouble. Let your family build a bit of power base, before elevating them to dukedom.

I still like CK2 more

>exactly how do the devs expect your to land your family in CK3.
you start from the very beginning, as someone with zero vassals
your first vassal should always be a family member, or matrilineally married to females of your dynasty
all vassals should be members of your dynasty, or matrilineally married to females of your dynasty
i don't care what other players say, this is how the game should be played
any other counts, dukes and kings of other dynasties are outsiders, they don't deserve a damn thing, i don't care what their stats say
this way, if one of your vassals annexes stuff from your other vassal, this won't matter as much because they're both of your dynasty
>am i supposed to conquer a duchy, then hold it (going over my demesne limit) for years while i wait for it to stabilize, THEN gift it? and all the while deal with pissed off vassals?
you should never use a duchy casus belli if it'll get you a duchy title, at least not if it puts you over the duchy limit
going over the duchy limit (i believe it's still 2, maybe it's not though, i don't play current-version ck3) hurts your relations a LOT with any vassal nomatter how many times you swayed them
so just don't carry more than the limit of duchy titles
going over the county limit, on the other hand, isn't so bad
it's still a hit to relations, but at least it's temporary and you won't get a relations penalty for all existing vassals if you eventually give the county away to whoever
which reminds me, destroying a duchy title just to keep yourself within the duchy title limit will end up pissing some vassal off, especially if they own land that is incorporated with that certain duchy
so NEVER go over the duchy limit, period, unless you seriously don't give a fuck about the consequences
which doesn't seem to be the case here

Why was nazism created by the swarthiest kinds of germans aka Bavarians instead of northern germans to whom this ideology would fit the most?

question for eu5 fags.

does control affect rgo output, and its availability for your realm? lets say i annex a iron in a province I have 0 control in and in a different market. do the pops and buildings still get access to the iron before its put on the market?
>>
no
yes
control doesnt affect output, market access does that but not for rgos, only building throughput
>>
>>2338082
fuck im confused. if i understand correctly, rgo isnt affected by access to the goods is. would making a far flung vassal fix the resource problem or does the vassal just do whatever it wants with its goods?
>>
>>2338090
making a vassal doesnt change anything about goods going to the market. thats not impacted by ownership or control but by market access (distance to the market), one of the numbers at the top of the province ui
odds are a vassal would make it a town like every other ai which only makes things worse
>>
>>2338102
so the best course of action to access said resources is to directly own it then have majority market access in it? if there were 2 separate markets would the resources flow to where they are needed, or can you make a manual trade for that?
