Bluesky VTubers (DIY, true indie, hobbyist) seem genuinely happier, same with the furry VTubers. Everyone I know who has tried to make a career out of VTubing has dealt with a significant amount of stress and misery, even if they ultimately love the job

Journalism was also very stressful but the environment was 10% less competitive, VTubing is a Wild West where peoples’ worst selves only face policing if publicly addressed, there is much less professionalism and therefore the stress is very “constantly watching your back”

Personally, I find the ENVTubing industry fascinating less for the content and more for the political element — as in the literal relationships between people and groups. Don’t get me wrong, I love the format, but the underlying movements behind the scenes are like a vulgar version of Dune

Everyone is making plays and scheming. Everyone is making estimations and trying to gain influence or control while avoiding conflict. Some people are morally gray, others are morally bankrupt. Everyone is sitting at home ruminating and Planning in a way that would make Frank Herbert proud

This is something also brought up — is Phase damaged goods? I think this is a good question to ask of both the agency and of its star talent, can they move on from their past? Maybe, maybe not, but a lot of minds have been made up about what both are (or should be)

Clara really did deserve much better — the chuds relitigated their anger toward her after the Jelly announcement, which was completely unfair and unacceptable. I can’t imagine how stressful the past few months have been for her

I do think Phase wants its more toxic fans to go away, but hoping that happens slowly and quietly comes at a cost — a cost that talent sometimes pays

The chuds are freaking out about this btw. Cannot stress enough, this is a pretty pivotal move from Phase and should be read as a political & optics strategy, not simply “our VTuber got caught being a bad girl 👉👈” — which would have resulted in a quiet deletion of tweets

Jelly’s tweets broke containment and were becoming another referendum on RW sentiments in VTubing too. I’m sure Phase saw the writing on the wall that Jelly risked a ton of YouTube videos with her face plastered on them, decrying the decay in [EN] VTubing. The industry’s rep is really bad right now

I didn’t expect Phase to address publicly but it does follow a pattern. You can track Pippa’s humor from her debut vs now and note that something changed over the years. Then Clara being protected from RW backlash after Charlie Kirk… something is going on at Phase in terms of optics and strategy

In a move I did not expect at all, Jelly’s Minecraft tweets were deleted after an internal review by Phase Connect — which the agency addressed publicly To me, this suggests Phase Connect is no longer happy with its chuddier audience members, it sees where the tide is turning politically

I think it’s important for people to remember that Bluesky is not run very well and does not have your interests at heart, at some point Twitter is going to break down to the point where the RW floods Bluesky, and leadership will welcome that to increase user stats

I’m not a “throw money at a problem and it fixes it” woman, but 95% of media problems would be fixed by hiring a couple of journalists-turned-strategists, setting them loose for six months, and having them create a report for areas of focus that readers want and need. Personally, exiting out of news content, focusing entirely on making porn, and writing up inoffensive analysis posts on Bluesky has cut internet drama by 75% for me over the past month… I think the news/drama indie content creator space gives people stomach ulcers and high blood pressure

I’ve been hearing from more companies and casual viewers (only watches one or two big names, eg ex- VShojo talent) that their estimation of VTubing has plummeted over the past few years. Why? All the drama, political insanity, controversy. People really are giving up on ENVTubing

If people want the culture and concepts we have in ENVT to survive they’re going to have to work together to solve the severe brand problems ENVT has. Otherwise, I mean, that’s just kind of it. Brands and viewers are becoming more and more selective about VTubers

I personally think ENVT has some irreconcilable political differences within its big tent and the industry is set to splinter apart long term into niche and cottage industries based around small marketable interests. Nothing feels very sustainable about this current climate

I don’t disagree that scrapping the comments section was a mistake (TMS actually held onto theirs into the Gamurs era), though I’ll note that a lot of websites removed the feature because of journalists facing harassment via it. Which could have been solved with better resources into moderation
